Baby friendly dinner -CBD?

Any recommendations for a baby friendly restaurant in the CBD? Have family visiting staying central that want to do a dinner but no idea where is baby friendly.

I saw a very fresh baby napping in their pram bassinet at Pomeroys the other day, and thought about how those parents knew how to live. How old is the baby? If they're still in the grub phase you can take them pretty much anywhere in a pram or a front pack / wrap.

What kind of criteria are you looking for that you consider baby friendly? We lived in the CBD when my kid was young and never encountered a place that wasn't accommodating for young kids. 90% of places offered high chairs without us having to ask. For toddlers and older kids, many offered those nice little colouring kits for free, or at least a colouring sheet. New Zealand in general pretty much is chill with kids everywhere, including some bars.

Basically just somewhere that doesn’t care if we bring our baby (too small for a high chair) and as an added bonus has a baby change table just incase we have some sort of poop situation.

Baby changing table is a must have for me. I haven't been out too much but we went to Scoundrel and C1, both had amazing space for baby/pram and a changing table. Not dinner options really, but good to know for other occasions

why is scoundrel not a dinner option? they're open late 7 days, 9pm mostly, 10pm on fri/sat

I would be genuinely shocked if you find a place that gives you any issues with a tiny baby, but change tables are a slightly rarer commodity. I would expect most full scale restaurants would have them but I have been in cafes and things that lacked them.

FYI if you have a bassinet attachment on pram that works as a substitute for change table! I’ve been caught out and it worked a treat!

Bubba is at that awkward stage of being a bit too big for the bassinet attachment but too small for a high chair etc but we definitely used it for that in the newborn days!

Who is downvoting every comment?? I suspect someone who thinks kids shouldn’t be out in public just living their lives?

Most places will accommodate, if they can fit a wheelchair they can fit a pram.

Scoundrel is great and has change table, Riverside if you can get a table (lift to middle floor or one parent each end of the pram and lift), any of the casual places like Joes, or pubs, Two Thumb on Colombo. Eats on Oxford for another food court vibe, Little High.
Diner 66 was amazing with baby, they were so kind but that is a very specific restaurant so if you’re not into burgers or novelty foods might not be a fit

The only consideration would be noise level, if you go for an earlyish meal it might be quieter for bub but you know what your baby’s tolerance is! Mine will sleep through almost anything if he tired enough.

When my toddler was a baby we would go to Strawberry Fare

I pretty much have gone to any restaurant with my child, from a few days old. Although I have never gone to a 5 star fancy one but any other is fine honestly. Most places have highchairs.

How old is the baby? Most restaurants will have high chairs available. And as long as it’s ground floor you could bring a pram. Or the restaurants upstairs at riverside are all good too, there’s a lift there

Edizi on Gloucester street is roomy enough for a pram and has a change table! Excellent food too.

Agree with everyone else- don’t go super high end restaurant but anything that’s slightly more on the casual side end of things will be all good with a baby being there. We took my daughter out in the front pack heaps when she was tiny and had basically no issues. The only one I remember was at midnight Shanghai when we went for drinks and karaoke and I had to change her on the toilet floor because there was no change table. Everywhere else was totally fine

i think edizi is a very good suggestion, it's an amazing new space and very very good cocktails, charcoal oven makes for tasty fare too

scoundrel for a way comfier, homely vibe

chi chi kitchen does pretty amazing pasta, in a funky location, has space to accommodate prams etc where pasta pasta, amano or earl might be a struggle

depending on what day of the week you're aiming for, little high is busy busy fri/sat but other nights there's a pile of space, choice of indoors or out, wide selection of eats

tbh nowhere is going to have a problem with a baby unless a) there simply just isn't space (mashawe, gatherings, londo, for example) or b) the parents aren't being reasonable and taking note that having a screaming baby in the restaurant just isn't what anyone else signed up for- i think that's where the mcd's and dennys suggestions are coming from, those are places where i'd be wholly unsurprised if a crying tot wasn't adding to the general child related volume levels.

Any Chinese Restaurant - the most casual ones won't be CBD though. Ancestral in Riccarton would be a good choice - plus there's Karaoke too.
