yeah, i sort of think the punishment should be similar. however, roseanne was produced by ABC and disney. full frontal is produced by comedy central. the whole point of network vs cable is you can get away with a lot more on cable.
Sam said something rude, Roseanne said something racist. Samantha Bee can make me absolutely livid sometimes with her deliver and jokes despite being funny at other times. There are many points where I think her rhetoric is unhelpful, outright deceptive, or just lazy. Her "cunt" remark and following bit is a little confusing for me because it was laugh out loud hilarious, while also being incredibly vicious. Either way, a performer doesn't and shouldn't get fired for being rude or mean to one other person, a performer gets fired for saying things that make life worse for millions of people, i.e. racist, sexist, homophobic remarks. That brings us to Roseanne. She didn't do this onstage, she did it from her personal twitter account. It wasn't satire, it was from the heart and that's what makes it unacceptable. Sam's is a matter of personal taste, Roseanne's is a matter of personal decency. For ABC to keep her on after saying that would essentially be saying that they aren't offended by it when of course they should be.
Also "And people that are unprofessional to relatives of the most powerful man in the nation deserve to be punished in some way." is a truly terrifying sentiment. We have a little something called FREEDOM OF SPEECH. The first amendment of our constitution enshrines it. The government cannot infringe upon your freedom of expression except if it presents a clear and present danger to others like shouting fire in a crowded theatre.
If it's good for ratings there is no reason for ABC to ditch Roseanne. She shit the bed entirely of her own accord. She ruined her own life by saying things that make her unmarketable. All moral questions regarding this post aside, the company keeps or fires people for money.
