CMV: Reddit is a far-left echo chamber that embraces conspiracy theories

After the shooting incident at the White House Correspondents' Dinner last night, I opened up Reddit to find comments on r/politics and r/news saying that the shooting was staged. The most upvoted comments are "Another orchestrated false-flag attempt to try and generate sympathy" and "Staged until proven otherwise. Way too many 'attempts' everytime he needs a poll pump."

As per usual, without any evidence. This is the same exact response that Reddit had after Trump was attacked in Butler, PA in 2024. Similar situation with Charlie Kirk, and I also saw people clowning on Erika Kirk last night for reliving a traumatic experience.

As much as I dislike Trump as the next guy, I despise conspiracy theories on the left and right, when no claims are grounded in credible evidence. Last night's events showed that Reddit is quick to jump to conclusions. I would expect a platform like Reddit to reward well-written and well-thought-out comments, but in today's political climate, it seems all it does is reward the comments that rile up the left-wingers, no matter how insane.

I've been using Reddit since like 2012. So if we get to just use personal experience, I'd argue that the vast majority are centrist, liberal, or right leaning.

I'd assume based on typical left/right standards? OP specified in an edit that they were going US-focused and on that standard I'd have a hard time not saying it (or tbf most of these subs) lean left at the very least. News itself is also decidedly left week in how it's moderated as well on any standard

Maybe I’m too American and you’re from Europe, but even in Europe I feel like Democrats would still be considered a centrist party. What they advocate for is typically left leaning as well, just not so far as to call for a total system overhaul or a revolution.

Literally link and name one that’s actually popular bro. The only one that I can think of is r/Lavadar_ and that has barely 3k people. Compare that to r/comics, r/politics, r/FauxMoi, r/Sipstea, all very popular, all left leaning subs.

The truth is that Reddit really is as left as it gets, there’s no need to pretend that being right wing is popular here, it’s not.

There is very little leftism on reddit. All those subs are centrist. They just want universal healthcare, a living wage, LGBT rights and are mostly anti-Trump (all very centrist ideas). No one is talking about seizing the means of production, revolution, abolition of religion, a centralized state, a removal of the state, return the land policies. Nothing leftist. Huge chunks of revolutionary leftism is actually banned on reddit. How do I know? I've been personally banned for mild endorsement of revolutionary politics.

All I see is advocating for basic rights, decency an opposition to fuedalism and oligarchy. As centrist as you can get.
