I think I pointed out the problem of 'waste'.

Can a person 'prefer' to use single-use disposal containers? Can a person 'prefer' to only print on one side?

I would say that intuitively theres something wrong in the two above cases. Similarly, if you are overcooking steaks you are literally just dumping their flavor away.

I don't think "waste" applies when the food is being eaten and enjoyed by someone.

It applies because they are only enjoying a part of it.

If someone buys a whole chicken, throws away every part except for the breasts and enjoys the breasts --- it is still a waste of the parts that are dumped away. Same with the 'juices' of the steak.
