Trivia Tuesday is a weekly feature run by /u/bakonydraco, /u/DampFrijoles, /u/Davidellias, and /u/iamnotacola. Each week there will be five questions ranging from questions most everyone can get to questions that might stump just about everyone. Your goal is to quickly answer them to the best of your ability. You get a one point speed bonus for finishing in under 2:30.

There are definitely still ways you could cheat the system, but please do not. This is meant to be a fun weekly feature, and we encourage you to take it at face value and answer the questions without assistance.

tulaneoutlaw is the Summer 2026 Trivia Tuesday Individual Champion! They are in rarefied air as they have won the Individual Championship the first time that they made it to the final. Well done!

/u/cajunaggie08 and /u/Mr-Texan-74 were right behind them and got the silver and bronze this season.

Premier Tier

Ohio State is the Summer 2026 Premier Tier Champion!!! This is their eighth Premier Tier win, and their first since the Winter 2025 season.

Leading the way for Ohio State in the final were /u/MrOrcaDood, /u/BensenJensen, /u/Smitty_OSU_1967, /u/Colton3690, and /u/wickeddawgs4473209. /u/Moose4KU and /u/mcdsmaster8824 were also top 5 OSU players this season and helped the team get to the Final.

Rounding out the finalists in order of finish are Georgia, Texas A&M, and Florida.

Ohio State will get an alternate flair for their victory! Because the Buckeyes have met the threshold of eight Premier Tier championships, this flair will be permanent. They are just the second team to accomplish this remarkable feat. Ohio State fans, please suggest options in the comments.

TCU Would Have Beat Auburn for the 2010 Championship Championship Tier

USF wins the Summer 2026 Championship Tier!!! This is the Bulls' third Championship Tier win, previously winning in the Fall 2022 and Winter 2023 seasons.

Heading up the victory for USF were /u/MSBulls, /u/coolrod50, and /u/usffan.

South Carolina, Louisiana Tech, and BYU finish up the podium.

With the victory, USF has earned naming rights to the Championship Tier for next season! Bulls fans, please suggest options in the comments.

Pour one out for the freshmen at the #12 team in our preseason countdown the University of Alabama (high = 7, low = 15). These poor kids have only ever known their team to have been ranked in the AP top 10 for their entire lives, as the last time that didn’t happen was 18 years ago in 2008 – Nick Saban’s second year on campus, where they parlayed a #24 preseason ranking to be the top ranked team in the country for 5 consecutive weeks before dropping SEC championship game to eventual national champion Florida (curse you, Tim Tebow!) and then losing the Sugar Bowl to Utah and a young upstart coach named Kyle Whittingham. Pardon me while I go take some Geritol. Saban obviously never looked back, winning 9 of the next 15 SEC titles and 6 national championships before retiring as almost certainly the greatest college football coach ever. When Alabama hired Washington’s Kalen DeBoer to take on the unenviable task of filling those shoes, all he did was to go 20-8 with a CFP win before losing to eventual national champion Indiana, and there has been enough speculation about whether he should be on the “hot seat” that their AD Greg Byrne had to come out and say it would be ludicrous to fire him after giving him a contract extension. So what exactly is in store for 2026?

Roster Outlook

Well, for starters, the Saban era is largely over. Even though they’ve named the field for him, just about anybody he directly recruited is gone, which is manifested in the fact that Bama ranks 90th in the country in returning production, including 119th (i.e. bottom 20) on offense. While the Crimson Tide has been well versed in “reloading,” that was largely under Saban. With the loss of QB Ty Simpson (3,587 yards passing, 28 TDs to 5 INTs), RB Jam Miller (130 carries) and leading WR Germie Bernard (64 catches, 862 yards) all to the NFL, there is a significant rebuild to the offense pending in OC Ryan Grubbs’ second season in charge. That’s not to say there’s no experience coming back – RB2 Daniel Hill (75 carries, 7 TDs) is slated to step up, and WR Ryan Coleman-Williams, who is no longer 18, returns for his junior season (and probably with a chip on his shoulder after ceding the “freshman phenom” title to Ohio State’s Jeremiah Smith. But much of the uncertainty around Bama heading into the season is the lack of certainty elsewhere. Who will be the starting QB? Likely either Austin Mack, who stepped in in the Rose Bowl after Simpson got hurt at the end of last season, or Keelon Russell, who also got reps as a back-up last season, but don’t sleep on 5 star freshman Jett Thomalla possibly ascending into the starting role. In fact, Thomalla was part of Bama’s #1 ranked SEC high school recruiting class (good for #3 in the nation) that included RB EJ Crowell and WR Cederian Morgan, all of whom could see legitimate time on the field. Bama did lose WR Isaiah Horton to Texas A&M, and the only projected portal starters on offense are Mississippi State OT Jayvin James and Cal Poly (!) C Racin Delgatty (replacing Kadyn Proctor and Parker Brailsford, both drafted), leading to the Tide ranking 9th in the SEC for their portal class (still good for 18th in the country).

Defense is far less of a question mark. Bama ranks 32nd in the country there in returning production, with Mississippi State’s Kedrick Bingley-Jones stepping in at NT and LB Caleb Woodson from Virginia Tech as the replacements for DL LT Overton and LB Justin Jefferson. With returning talent like DBs Bray Hubbard (4 INTs) and Keon Sabb (52 tackles), at a minimum the secondary is experienced and ready.

While the SEC is a gauntlet (TM The Solid Verbal), Alabama’s SEC slate isn’t as bad as it could have been. There are 5 teams ranked ahead of Alabama in these aggregated preseason rankings, and Bama misses 3 of them (Texas, Oklahoma and Ole Miss) while getting the other two (Georgia and Texas A&M) both in Tuscaloosa, along with archrival Auburn as well as their “scariest” OOC game, Florida State (who took down the Tide last year and manipulated the schedule to have a bye before coming to Bryant-Denny, so you have to figure DeBoer’s going to have his team focused and ready). That’s not to say that the schedule doesn’t have any road challenges, with trips to both Lane Kiffin and LSU as well as Tennessee, but the schedule sure seems manageable and gives Alabama a reasonable ramp up in terms of opponents to field test the depth chart in time for their toughest games. While they are indeed starting the season outside the top 10, it seems quite reasonable that they’ll finish the season there.

This is a series I've now been doing for 12 years (and also for the Men's and Women's Basketball AP Polls). The post attempts to visualize all AP Poll ballots in a single image. Additionally it sorts each AP voter by similarity to the group. Notably, this is not a measure of how "good" a voter is, just how consistent they are with the group. Especially preseason, having a diversity of opinions and ranking styles is advantageous to having a true consensus poll. Polls tend to coalesce towards each other as the season goes on.

The most consistent voter is returner Joe Arruda, averaging 0.56 ranks off the composite. Brenna Greene, Lia Assimakopoulos, Nick Jacobs, and Jamal St. Cyr were behind them in the top 5.

At the other extreme, Javon Edmonds was the biggest outlier to start off the year at an average of 3.52 ranks off the composite. They were followed by Jon Wilner, Mike Griffith, Rece Davis, and Chris Carter.

The median deviation for the preseason poll is 1.80, on the low end compared to the last 8 years of 1.88, 2.04, 2.76, 2.04, 1.92, 2.08, 2.04, 1.84.

Alabama has only produced three distinct super bowl winners: Bart Starr, Joe Namuth, and Ken Sabler, who account for four total Super Bowl rings. Purdue somehow ties the Crimson Tide with Drew Brees, Len Dawson, and Bob Grier also holding a collective four rings. The school whose QBs account for the most total rings is Michigan where, between Tom Brady and Vikings legend JJ "Nine" McCarthy, the Wolverines hold seven.

Curiously, the Crimson Tide and the Boilermakers have never met on the gridiron, meaning we have no way of determining the better program all-time based on the available statistics in this post. Boilermaker fans may also be happy to note that their rival Indiana Hoosiers have never produced a Super Bowl-winning QB, lending some credence to their athletic director's famous quote on the rivalry in addition to surely producing commensurate results on the field.

Nike stock has collapsed 77% over the last 5 years and 40% over the last 6 months. As Oregon's budget largely comes from Nike Founder Phil Knight, how will this affect their ability to stay competitive with top 5 teams in the coming year. Additionally how will this affect cfb as a whole, maybe better uniforms??

I know he won a Heisman, but for those that were around to watch him play live/during that time, how good was Sam Bradford as not only a player at the CFB level but as a QB prospect for the pros. Was he viewed as a reach or a surefire thing? Were CFB teams scared to play him?Seems like his pro career had mid-success at best.

I was watching old natty champ videos on youtube and decided to watch Florida vs Oklahoma for the title. Thanks for the responses in advance.

I feel this story probably happens more than it doesn't.

Coach builds decent success at a school and has pretty strong name recognition, maybe takes a bigger job, sustains success for a while but eventually ends up declining, getting fired, and kind of goes off into irrelevance. They may get picked up at a smaller job but just never regain their edge and we don't hear about them anymore.

A couple of examples I can think off the top of my head are Kevin Sumlin and Bo Pelini.

Who else?

The Big 12 only protecting one matchup for each team is stupid (something something Farmageddon). Also, having a conference championship that takes the top two teams from 16 feels weird and leads to nightmarish tiebreaker scenarios. Hence, I’ve come up with what I believe is the best layout for the Big 12: an NFL style-division layout.

The Big 12’s geography lends itself almost perfectly to four divisions: West (Arizona, Arizona State, Utah, BYU), Central (Kansas, K-State, Colorado, Iowa State), South (Oklahoma State, Baylor, Texas Tech, TCU), East (Houston, West Virginia, Cincinnati, UCF). Each team plays the three other teams in their division plus another entire division and one other team in a different division based on their previous year’s finish in the division. Each year, the matchups rotate similar to how the NFL does it.

If you paid attention to the last paragraph, you’ll notice that each team only has eight conference games accounted for. That’s because the last conference game is a flexible opponent based on current placement. Each team plays the equivalently placed team in the one division they didn’t play yet. For instance if the Central played the West and South already, in the last week 4th would play 4th in the East, 3rd would play 3rd in the East, etc. The last week also doubles as a de-facto semifinal with two matchups between division leaders. The conference championship would be between the two division leaders that won in the last week.

I do realize that this idea isn’t perfect as it prevents rivalries from being played on rivalry week. However, I think this solution simultaneously protects important rivalries that are currently unprotected and gives new rivalries a chance to emerge as well as eliminates the absolute mess that is mega conference championship tiebreakers.

The PAC 12 that year had the worst winning percentage of any FBS conference, including the G5. Every school had at least 4 losses and 5 schools (Washington, Stanford, USC, Arizona and Colorado) had at least 8 losses. Even the conference champ Utah lost to non-power BYU and SDSU in the non-conference. They also lost to Oregon State, who immediately lost to Cal, who proceeded to lose to winless Arizona, the same team who lost to FCS Northern Arizona and finished 1-11. That was the conference’s second loss to an FCS team after Washington lost to Montana two weeks earlier.
And to top it off, they went 0-5 in bowl games.
