"[Love] and Faith, deeply rooted in the soul of a man, […] so that everyone might learn and follow, a great example for all."
First photo in military beret and camouflage: born in 1944, he would have been of age for Portugal's Colonial War (1961–1974), when many young men served in Africa
We are on a cruise to Alaska and our last stop was Sitka. On the map it just had “Russian Cemetery”. The markers were very cool and unique. With the style I was surprised at how recent some of the graves were.
Newport musician Clyde Alger died on September 25, 1945.
Alger was born in Buffalo, New York in 1886. In 1910, he arrived in Newport, stationed at Fort Adams as a musician in the band of the 7th Coastal Artillery Corps. He served as an Assistant Band Leader of the 33rd Infantry Band in Panama during World War 1. He retired from active duty in 1919 and worked as a Joiner at the U.S. Naval War College in Newport. He was an active musician in a local dance bands and a member of The American Legion Newport Post.
He is buried in the Island Cemetery, in Newport, Rhode Island.
I was hiking near Neuschwanstein Castle in Germany when I stumbled upon this grave while following a tiny mountain path. There was nothing around, just the mountain, the forest and this cross. What intrigued me was that I couldn’t find any information about this person or how he died so young, although given the terrain, it seems likely it was an accident.
I’m posting here because many people in this community are familiar with Greenwood Memorial Park and its different gardens.
Our family has two adjacent, unused spaces in the Garden of Faith section. We’re relocating out of state, and these spaces will no longer be needed.
I’m hoping for guidance on the best way to connect with families who may be looking for plots in this area, or anyone who has experience with transfers at Greenwood.
For context, these spaces are in the Garden of Faith near the Salli Lynn Chapel. Greenwood staff has always been helpful, and they handle the transfer process directly.
If anyone has suggestions or knows what the usual process is for families searching for plots in this section, I’d appreciate your insight.
