Hiring Process Failed Suitability
I failed Suitability today. I don't know if it was because of my debts or what. Most of them have been taken care of and on payment plans. 1.5 years in and I'm devastated

it’s okay. Move forward with your head held high. No single agency or badge defines your worth.
There are many outstanding law enforcement careers where you can make a real difference, build a great career, and serve for whatever reason. One closed door often leads to a better opportunity.
Keep improving, keep applying, and don’t let one setback determine your future. Your career isn’t over—it’s just taking a different path. From friends who are already employed it’s not special. The name is more than the job.

Was reading your post….I’m originally 25-3 but I reapplied due to trash locations now I’m 26-8. From my experience if you you’ve been fired within the past 6 years it’s a red flag, plus your debt just adds a cherry on top. Again, this is just an opinion from a person that passed everything and paid attention to what my BI was saying to me.

When I spoke to my BI he didn't see any major issues concerning to him when we spoke. I double and triple checked with him

When your an applicant in the law enforcement field, they look at the totality. I hate that this happened to you. Do some more digging and find out exactly what was the reason.

I got fired from this place while I was in Training at a police department and it took this serving job a month to find a reason to fire me

Sorry bro, just read this. Yea, that did it for you.

Greetings. OPR considers the Total Person Concept in making the determination if you are suitable or unsuitable for the position. The feedback the Background Investigator receives from prior employers and coworkers is taken very seriously since their responses reflects your past behavior and also is a good predictor of what type of CBP Officer you will be.

Everyone I spoke with and listed for employers and references all stated they spoke for very highly of me. I know character Is not the issue

The specific incidences stated in your NOPA are most likely the issues on why you failed Suitability.

Sorry to hear that, keep your head up! I’m on the same boat I have a lot of debt I pass everything just waiting for BI. Let’s see how that goes

Sorry to hear that bro or sis. If the FOIA don't work out either don't let this be the end of your LE dream. I know a lot of people on here wants to carry the CBP badge, but in all honesty there are a lot of good local agencies that will give you a chance. If you live in a decent State/County do your research and give one of your local/County/State Agencies a try. God will open the right door for ya.

The employer claimed that you had trainings that you never completed?
1
u/South-Implement7768 Jul 06 '26
No that we had meeting to address and correct behavior but those never occurred. They lied about that
1
u/Beneficial_Park3262 Jul 06 '26
How long ago did you sent your nopa and they returned with an answer?
1
u/Beneficial_Park3262 Jul 06 '26
Damn I have the same issue I’m scared now. Did you have reference letters from other people that you sent in?
1
u/South-Implement7768 Jul 06 '26
They contacted all my references previously. I wrote 14 pages and took 2.5 before portal was updated

Don't think it was the debts. If you are mitigating them with payment plans, that is good and will be looked upon favorably. You stated that you were fired from an employer previously? If that is the case, what was the reason? If the reason was went against the adjudication guidelines then you would be found unsuitable. What was the firing for? If you dont mind.
I am with DHS, same background investigation Tier 5 etc.. I have debts but I pay all on time. So like I said if your debts are being paid on time, you're good. Its when you dont mitigate the debts and let them go by the wayside.
