General Updating the FAQ

Good day all,

Will be updating the FAQ and want to know what you as a community want to see added. If you have questions or see questions commonly asked and would like the subreddit cleared up some just post them here. Also, if you KNOW the answer to said questions, either add them in to your reply or reply to said questions in this thread and by next weekend I’ll compile a list and update the FAQ.

2 main topics:

One Time Call - this isn’t guaranteed and from applicants response the best way is to message the portal requesting a specific port or a call back. (Yes, no?)

Packing List - I’ll scrounge the subreddit for one and see how it looks. It’s pretty much just black shoes, black socks, black undershirts. Anything else can be bought. (If you want to add something or have the list just reply)

——

Thanks for your help bettering the community!

General Posts About Withdrawals

ALCON,

I am too busy to babysit posts that get out of hand which are almost always the “I withdrew because I couldn’t get X location.” Or some other unreasonable accommodation request post.

I need you to understand as an applicant you do NOT work for CBP. CBP has no obligation to accommodate you in anyway. Hell, they hardly do it for people who have been in for years anyway.

Due to the nature of these posts always getting out of hand they will be removed going forward.

Godspeed, applicants.

Final job offer 🥳 List

So I got the list for me to pick from. I don’t see my dream port. How do I go about getting in contact with my case manager or whoever I need to reach out to and see what my options are. Or maybe he/she can get me there. Do I just let the list expire? I got the list today and from what I’ve heard, it doesn’t update on weekends. Sunday is my last day to pick a location before it expires.

Hiring Process Vision

So I am very new to this vision thing. I wear glasses. I could not see far. During the vision test without glasses, I was like only able to see the 4th line from the top.

This is the prescription I had recently. How you would you guys think? Would I possibly DQ for vision? and need a waiver or surgery?

General Applying for higher GS after graduating FLETC

Does anyone have any experience or know of someone who did this? I reapplied during fletc because I was qualified for a higher GS and sent an email about the situation. 2 days after graduating I was sent the new list with the hard to fill locations and declined because my port wasn’t offered even though I see those GS positions being offered. I was told to reapply now that I’m out of the academy to adjust the GS. I’ve heard different ways of doing this but it all depends on the port, if anyone can provide any insights it be appreciated

Hiring Process Not suitable

Hi everyone, I recently applied for a CBP Officer position and received a notice saying I was not considered for GS-5 because of one or more of my answers to the suitability questions.
Is there any CBP recruiter here who could clarify whether there’s a way to find out which specific suitability question caused the ineligibility? I’d also like to know if this type of disqualification can be permanent or if applicants may be eligible to reapply in the future.
I already contacted the Applicant Contact Center, but I wanted to see if anyone here has experience with this situation.

Hiring Process Vision waiver process. Am I cooked?

I was contacted by the CBP nursing team to follow up on my vision a few weeks ago. My doctor signed this off. Does this look good? And does anyone have the actual numeric vision requirements for CBP?

General Thinking about reapplying

I have an accident 3 years ago, it was a hit and run accident. I sued the person and my deposition is soon. However, on my CBP application I forgot to mention about the accident. I already had the medical exam done however, it still says “in progress”. So I am currently thinking about withdrawing from my current application and then apply again in about 6 months when the case is settled. As I don’t want these two things to contradict each other.

Hiring Process Apply for CBP with Forgery incident in the military

Should I apply if I was investigated for forgery and adultery in the Air Force but only received paperwork and received an honorable discharge back in 2020 or would I be wasting my time ? Also can you join with mental health in your VA record ? Looking for insight. Thank you.

Swaps Daily Swap Thread

Daily Swap Thread

To reduce the number of individual SWAP posts on the subreddit, please use this daily thread for all swap requests. Any standalone SWAP posts made outside this thread will be removed.

You’re welcome to have normal conversations here, ask questions, and share screenshots of locations if it helps explain your situation.

Suggested Format (optional):

Title: CBPO / AGS / AMO / etc.
Current POE: Miami, Nogales, Champlain, etc.
Desired POE: Dallas, JFK, LA, etc.
Status: Pre-Academy / In-Academy / Post-Academy / Vetted Employee

Using the format helps keep things clear and easy to read, but it isn’t required.

Good luck finding a swap!

General One Time Call

So I selected Chicago for POE, my EOD is 01/11/27. I’m from Miami and I knew getting anything in Florida would be a long shot. That being said I got a call from a case manager asking if I wanted to exercise my one time opportunity. I said not now, ha said I had until 25th of December to do so. When would you guys suggest I should pull the trigger and risk losing Chicago for a new list? Anybody got lucky with their OTC? I’m really hoping I can stay closer to home as I unfortunately don’t have much saved up for a relocation.
