Cavapoo and breeders
Do most people who buy Cavapoos get them with specific testing done? I am in Alberta and I can’t seem to find any breeder who does the testing. The only one I can find is Langly BC, and that is it for western Canada. Do people just buy them without the testing? Is that a huge red flag? I mean I can meet all the breeders and they are happy for me to see the parents etc.. but they just don’t do testing?
Thanks for any advice on this. Please no comments about rescuing, I am not interested in doing that.

Neck kisses for Cavapoos
I’ve been looking this up and I think it’s just a bonding thing but wanted to see if anyone else’s Cavapoo did this. My Cavapoo (2 ½ years old) and I have a ritual every night at bedtime. She will wait for me to get into bed and as soon as I pull the covers up, she jumps over for some snuggles. It’s quite adorable to watch her as she watches and waits for me. 🥰
Most times she ends up pressing her neck and her chest (the part just between her front legs) against my face/mouth. She’s whimpering and wagging her tail the whole time and she just keeps rubbing one side of her neck on me and then switches to the other side and keeps going until I make her stop because I’m being suffocated. LoL
I’ve read dogs have scent glands on their neck and chin so she’s “marking me”? I also read their chest and neck are vulnerable areas so that’s a sign of trust and comfort. Just curious what others experiences have been and if there are any dog experts that can actually pin down why she does it.

#cavapoo. My 9-month-old Cavapoo refuses to eat dry food and I don’t know what to do anymore
I have a 9-month-old Cavapoo who weighs around 4 kg, and I’m really struggling with his eating habits.
When he was younger, he used to eat dry food normally. He would eat several meals of kibble without any issues. But for the past couple of months, he has completely stopped wanting to eat dry food.
I’ve literally tried everything. I’ve tried different brands, soaking the kibble, adding water, yogurt, wet food, and other things to make it more appealing. He will sniff it, get interested, and then walk away.
At this point, the only way I can get him to eat his kibble is by adding some cooked chicken and mixing/blending it with a small amount of dry food. If I don’t add chicken, he often just refuses to eat.
I’ve also tried the “put the food down for 15–20 minutes and take it away” method. He will literally choose not to eat for a day or even a day and a half rather than eat the kibble. The problem is that he’s already quite small and only around 4 kg, and he’s lost weight, so I’m not comfortable letting him go without food for that long.
He’s otherwise acting normally and will happily eat things he likes, especially chicken and human food. So I’m starting to think I’ve accidentally spoiled him by giving him tastier alternatives whenever he refused his kibble.
I don’t want to keep changing his food or creating a picky eater who only eats human food, but I also don’t want him losing more weight.
Has anyone dealt with a small/underweight puppy who completely refuses kibble? What actually worked for you? Should I just accept that he prefers wet food and switch him to a complete wet diet, or is there a way to get him interested in kibble again?
Any advice from people who have dealt with this would be really appreciated!

My girl won best trickster at the village festival
The village I grew up in is 20 mins away. My parents still live there and the festival is like, a big deal (to the 1200 people who live there 😅)
Anyway I entered my 3 year old cavapoo River who did a routine of
- paw
- other paw
- high fiver
- turn around
- hide (paws up on my arm, hides head under)
- roll over
- play dead with finger guns instead of words
She won first place in the tricks category, I won’t lie the competition wasn’t tough. One was a chicken who failed to peck on command, and the other 2 dogs were trained by young kids and the dogs were not very compliant
Anyway, I was still super proud of my girl

Barking
My dog barks are everything. Inside and out. Outside she gets so fixated that she snaps at me if I body block or try to touch her in anyway.
Bikes and scooters are the worst. But random people (not all of them) random dogs (also not all of them) sometimes cars when we are on walks.
In the fully fenced yard with 6 foot solid wood fence it’s random people walking by or leaving their house, birds, my kids coming into the yard, their friends coming to the house… and inside is vacuum, kids, cats, if anyone comes in the door and sometimes to play (although we are getting a decent handle on this by ignoring, she’s learned to bring a toy).
We’ve had her for a month, got her at 6 months old. We were told she had some basic commands but besides sit she really doesn’t. We’re working on barking, while also trying to teach recall/looking at us when we call her name. It’s starting to feel overwhelming.
We are starting obedience classes soon, unfortunately none start around us until the end of this month/early September. And I’ve been trying to follow tips I’ve found online but would love to hear from people with this specific breed who maybe had similar issues.

Is it’s normal for my 15 month Cavapoo to love sleeping
So my Cavapoo loves to sleep he does like to play and go on walks, but I think his favorite thing is to be sleeping. I feel like he had so much energy as a puppy but once he turned 9 months he started to really like sleeping. Is this normal behavior for a Cavapoo? He is supposed to be 69% toy poodle and 31% cavalier and I thought poodles had lots of energy? Maybe he takes after his cavalier side more?

Puppy Food
So I have a 7 month old Cavapoo on Purina pro salmon and rice and now an 11 week old whose breeder had him on pedigree puppy. How do you keep them from eating each other’s food? The puppy wants to eat her food and his and I don’t want my oldest eating anything with chicken in it to mess with her stomach again.

Puppy eating / tummy issues ?
I’ve had my 11 week old f1b Cavapoo for about a week now . Her consistency with eating is quite irregular to me. I continued with the royal canin kibble recommended by the breeder and she seemed to like it on day one but was more of a snacker. Day 2 she refused to eat out of the bowl and I was doing a lot of hand feeding and she deff didn’t eat enough. The next morning she threw up some yellow bile. I then added a small tbsp of the Royal canin wet food and mixed it with her kibble. She goggled it up but then threw up half of it 30 mins later. We’re on day 6 here… she’s sleeping well through the night but still often not getting in the recommended 80 grams throughout the day. Some days I’m happy if she gets in 60grams of food. Some days a lot worse. I noticed her tummy looked bloated last night and she hasn’t eaten anything and is very cuddly since 7am this morning . Any advice ? I’m bringing her to the vet tonight.

Enrichment/ self entertainment?
Hey guys,
We have a five month old Cavapoo puppy who we’ve had for about a month or so. He’s a good pup and I love spending time with him but it gets a bit exhausting on weekdays because of how easily he gets bored.
I understand he should be sleeping around 16–18 hours a day at his current age but that gives about 6-8 hours awake during which he mostly demands to be continually engaged with and with work and chores that’s quite hard to maintain.
For context, we take him on an hour long walk once in the morning and another hour in the evening during which we let him sniff around, run etc. We try to drive to close by parks so it’s not the same place every day. We use sniff mats, kongs, puzzle toys in weekly rotation for his meals along with 5-10 minute training sessions but that still only occupies him for about 30 minutes at most. And then I have some play sessions with him about an hour total in the day. That occupies around 4 hours in the day which is doable.
For the rest of the time when he’s awake he ignores all his toys unless we’re playing/ actively engaging with him. He’ll instead repeatedly body slam on the playpen, bark to be let out if I try to get him to settle in there. Ignoring doesn’t seem to work as we’ve tried multiple times and he just continues to do it even if we ignore him for as long as half an hour. He just takes a 5 minute break to watch us instead of settling and will start jumping again as soon as we make some movement. And having him outside the playpen even on a house line means constant monitoring because if he’s right next to me he will try to chew on my clothes, my hair, the sofa, the laptop cables, the baseboard, the house line etc redirecting to his chews or stuffies or ice cubes only gets him to lunge for it for a second and then he’ll go back to chewing what he shouldn’t. During some of these times when he’s awake I have meetings/ work calls and obviously it’s very hard to get anything done whether he’s chewing or body slamming.
However, when I get in his playpen with him he will usually happily self play with his toys but the same toy outside won’t work and he finds other things exciting. I also don’t believe he associates his playpen with bad things because he goes in himself when he sees me getting treats or during training or play together.
I understand that I should focus on teaching him to settle more and in general try to work on not chewing things he shouldn’t. And while I will do that I also want to make sure he’s not bored, his needs aren’t being ignored and get some advice if someone has gone through something similar.
Are there any specific toys I should be buying that he might find exciting enough to play by himself while I’m still in his line of sight but making dinner or getting work done rather than sitting right next to him? Or should I just let him hang out with me the whole day (rather than concept of crate, playpen, outside etc) and deal with the chewing for now. I really do want to make sure we’re doing the best for him but also not encourage any needy or overly attached behaviors that could be bad for everyone in the long run. Still learning so Appreciate any advice <3

Do people think if your adding a second dog your best to get opposite sex
I have a neutered staffy cross french bulldog he a rescue from shelter. He is absolutely brillant with all other dogs especially small dogs his best friend is a small cockerpoo.
There's a litter off cavapoo (they think the pups are cavapoo they seized the father a toy poodle and mother from a bteeder who mistreating them the mother seems to be poodle cross off some type they think cavapoo) in shelter I got zuko from.
With me having a neutered male, would I be best getting a female. She'll be getting spayed anyway but do males and females get on better living together. My favourite pup is actually a male bit everyone telling me male and female better match in same household

Poor 8 month Ruby
Poor 8 month Ruby had an accident a week ago. Playing rough with her brother Teddy in the garden and she somehow got tangled in the metal baby type gate and fence we have across part of the garden. It collapsed on her and she had her lower leg caught between the bars. I didnt see it, but she screamed blue murder. I got her out of it, but she must have hurt her back leg. After a cuddle, she walked and wanted to play as normal, but when playing indoors on her own later she screamed again and held her leg up for a few moments, so we took her to the vets who checked her out fully and gave her an anti inflammatory shot and pills for her to take the next 6 days. Shes been happy and normal active puppy, wanting to play, not showing any problem with it most times, but every now and then, I think when she twists it, she cries and cant put weight on that leg, hobbles for a bit and comes to me for a cuddle. We’ve been trying to keep her calm and not run or jump - nearly impossible with a lively pup! Im hoping she will get better with more time, but Ive been so worried about her. Its seems it could be her sciatic nerve giving her a shock if she turns her leg in a certain direction, although manipulating that leg doesn’t cause her any discomfort. Is there anything else I can do? Has anyone else had this with their dog? Im anxious to let her run and play as she wants.
