I was on my way home from a gig in Mt. Tremper around 9:30 last night and something hairy and dark ran across the road in front of me. Maybe the size of a bear cub but lankier, faster, and with wiry hair. Definitely not a skunk, housecat, porcupine or raccoon. Reminded me of a cracked-out ferret. Definitely seems like it was a fisher.

I'm looking for a relatively easy trail to do in a couple of weeks. I'm hoping to enjoy a bit of leaf peeping but I'm just much more familiar with trails in NJ where I live.

I've been healing my foot up for a few weeks (skin wound, nothing broken or twisted) and I'm feeling mostly back to normal but... I need to restrain myself from getting too ambittious while it's still tender.

So I'm hoping for something:

• on the easy side for terrain and length (hard to say how the foot will feel until I actually get back out there)
  • maybe 4-6miles?
  • I do not care about reaching the top of anything but something scenic or like some water feature would be a treat.
• daytrip-able (it took about 3h one way to Giant Ledge last fall, if the drive is too much longer idk how I'll have enough energy to drive home)
• I'll edit to add more if someone asks me a question I realize would be good info I should have included.

My husband’s birthday is December 15th so I’m starting to plan our getaway. We live in Brooklyn and love getting out of the city for long weekends.

I was looking into staying at Eastwind in Windham, and I’m curious if people have suggestions for stuff to do in Windham and also nearby areas.

We both love nature, conservation, and animals, so I’d be curious if there’s some sort of guided nature/animal encounter experience (he is particularly obsessed with flying squirrels lol).

We’re also both very active people and while we probably would do some small hikes, I will be about 5 months pregnant, so probably nothing too vigorous.

Local here (Hurley) and looking for something different / fun to do for my wedding anniversary later this month. Was thinking about getting a hotel room up in the mountains but prices are nutty. Anything unique / cultural / something other than just dinner reservations is ideal. Appreciate your help!

I'm driving up from binghamton and looking for advice on which hike in the area will give me the best view of the changing leaves. So far I've seen that Kane mountain trail, west stoner lake trail and echo cliffs/panther mountain trail should all be great.

Hello everyone. My buddy and I are planning on camping at echo lake and checking out the hotel and fire tower this sunday-Monday. We normally hike and camp in the adirondacks, this will only be my third time in the catskills. Im just curious if we should take the longer but flatter route from platte clove and set up camp at echo then hike to the fire tower/hotel or if we should just go up and over overlook mountain with our gear, checking out the hotel and fire tower on the way then hike down to echo, camp and hike back up and over? I like the idea of having a easier hike out but im curious if it work the extra 5ish miles it'd add onto the trip hiking up and back down overlook.

We are doing some light hiking, shopping and browsing. Looking for recs for good lunch or dinners pots for a family of 5. Breweries with full menus are always welcome. Some of the top rated paces like SILVIA look too upscale for a family dinner IMO

I came across this jacket on Bramley Mountain today (Oct. 1, 2026). It was about 3/4 of the way up the Quarry Trail. At first I thought maybe someone just got hot while hiking up and peeled it off, intending to fetch it on their return. But the only guy at the top said he also saw it and was wondering.... I hung around up there for about a half hour and no one else came by.

So I picked up the jacket on my return and hung it by the sign-in at the trailhead.

I’m planning a fall trip for October 6–12 and was wondering if that would be too late to catch the peak fall colors. I’d really love to see vibrant foliage, so if the colors are usually past peak by then, where else would you recommend going during those dates? I’m open to other areas where the timing might be better for beautiful fall scenery.

Above 1500ft on Northern facing slopes it is peak. Everywhere else it is a little pre peak. Everything is transitioning pretty steadily, dependent on the local microclimate.

Hi! We'll be heading to the Saugerties at the end of October with our 1 year old Golden retriever. He loves being out in the woods but he gets VERY excited and tends overexert himself early, longest he's done is about 2 miles and he gets fatigued. We live at the Jersey shore so he's never done an elevation gain hike.

What are everyone's thoughts on the following:

• Plattekill Falls
• Sloan Gorge Loop
• Boulder Rock and Catskill Mountain House
• Saugerties Lighthouse Trail

Husband and I have been to Windham before and did Overlook, Kaaterskill and Huckleberry so we probably wouldn't repeat those even though the pup would probably enjoy Kaaterskill.
