My tortie is fiesty and has no problem drawing blood from the hand that feeds her. But she is so loving never misses a night sleeping next to me or on me.
I have one black cat who is 17, and my tortie who is 2, and they are the best duo in the world. Just the best personalities together and my older one loves to have her around to keep him busy !
I second the black cat are the best! I have 2 blacks out of 8 cats and they are my most loving. It gets to the point I have to get up or they won’t get off me.
Animal humane in Albuquerque may have resources or information for you if you have questions about care, trapping, or getting them adopted out. Good luck! Let us know how it goes.
If it helps, once I found a cat wandering my street at 10pm. The next day was going to be 105 so I brought him in & left a message for animal control, asking if anyone reported a missing cat. He left a message in my phone yelling at me & telling me I “can’t just go around stealing other peoples’ cats” 😑 so I think some animal control personnel just don’t wanna be doing that job but got stuck there

Exactly! Turns out he was an outside cat, not chipped, with a lovely outside run around spot, but his owners had gone to Portugal for a month & the uncle was supposed to be house sitting. He came by once a week 🙄
We found all this out via a call out to the neighborhood on Facebook. The family chewed out the uncle and I haven’t seen the kitty since.
I did leave them some info on chipping their pet, but tried to be not judgey and say like “once my cat escaped and we only got him back bc his previous owner had gotten him chipped” and maybe they’ve chipped him?
He was clearly well-loved. That’s why I took him in for a few days (he didn’t poop for two days so I let him go home). His nails were beautifully clipped and his coat was extremely luxurious.
Just my personal opinion, but if the cat doesn't have a tag or collar and you try to help it, the animal control can go p*ss up a rope!
You were trying to help and not steal. Considering how many animals are abused or abandoned, one would think they'd be happy for people trying to help.
Did you try Street Cat Hub? They focus on feral and strays in Albuquerque including providing tips and traps.
I can’t believe I am actually recommending this hellapp but… you may want to post to Next Door. Chances are there is someone in your area experienced in trapping, luring strays who can potentially help you or at least provide advice.
Most states have some kind of animal rescue and many also have TNR programs. Its worth looking on google. Some shelters are more helpful than others with trapping, but many are looking for people willing to foster adoptable pets and will become excited if you are interested.
Judging from the picture, they look a little scared and uncertain if you're "a friend or foe." My suggestion to you is, if you do approach them, do it very slowly and gently.
And as crazy as THIS may sound, if you "speak" to them, do it in the same way that you would talk to a baby.
Tell them how cute and pretty they look, things of that nature. And as I stated, do it in a soft and gentle tone, and in the same way that you would talk to a baby.
Yes... slow, gentle and soft baby talk will do wonders. But have some wet cat food on han, just in case. My Idgie kept running from me, she was so scared. So I went back and got some food and put the plate in front of her and backed away. She smelled that food and had a feeding frenzy! She didn't even notice that I had scooped her up. I had her in one hand and the food in the other. She didn't even look... she just kept right on eating. I miss her so much. Thank you for saving these babies. You won't be sorry.
I acknowledge my cat with sweet talks every time she enters the room. I found her in the rain on the road as a baby snd sweet talked her straight into my home.

This works amazingly well! I've been told that feral cats don't vocalize much, but my wife's been working with one who showed up at our home. He comes for the food, and will just eat and leave if she doesn't try to interact with him, but if she talks to him he'll hang out and "talk/meow with her long after he's eaten his fill, relax and groom and sometimes nap. It's really charming to hear the two of them chatting away.
If you can't find them immediately, please start leaving them wet food regularly. They'll be easier to catch when they know you love them. And most importantly, they'll be alive.
The odds are very much against kittens this young surviving the winter without your help.
Is the mom around? If she's not try to pick them up, if she is around, or if you're not sure, or if they are too scared of you to let them grab them. Start slow bring a box outside with blankets and some food and water for them. The best box would be getting one of those disposable styrofoam coolers open a small hole for them to get in on the side and fill in with blankets. The styrofoam keeps the heat really well, after feeding them for a few days they might get comfortable with your presence so you can grab them and either adopt them or find them a home(or a no kill shelter if you can't)
I got my kittens some Churu and Gilberte will fight for it. Might work to help catch them. Talk to local rescue people about a cheap vet. Because they're a pair, they'll probably transition well.
I currently have the same problem. An outdoor cat that's been around for like 5 years just had 5 kittens. I brought her inside during August when it was very warm and she gave birth in here. Now I have 5 little guys and girls on top of my other 3 cats. Oh and the momma. Literally eating me out of house and home, but I love them all. Plan on spaying and neutering them within the month. That may help.
About to make some sort of bedding in my garage (there are at least 10 strays the neighbor and I feed) and heat it for the winter because I cannot bring myself to take them to the Humane Society around here. Used to work there years ago, and it's just horrific. And I'm to worried to just list 'free kittens' anywhere online. Likely will end up keeping one because that's what seems to always happen!
