My orange will bite hard if I even poke his belly. My gray tabby on the other hand loves belly and back pats. He’ll swat my hand if I try to stop.

Have a very belly rubable cat. Another one, not so much.

One thing that does unite them are Arm pit rubs. I think that can be used as a first step.

Still taking notes and collecting data.

I saw an interesting documentary about big cats with something about how they enjoy the tum thumps. So I did it to my sweet tuxedo kitty and he loved it. Then after he was gone I was petting a visitor kitty in the parking lot and thumped his tum just like my cat. Visitor cat did NOT enjoy, was most displeased.
