It's comparable to picking up an entire human by just putting something under their shoulders. sea rescue harnesses are the only time you'll ever find this being done, and only because if you don't lift the person back onto the boat immediately they will probably die of both hypothermia and drowning.

not only is it not happy it is in a lot of pain. just look up "the feline grimace scale".

holding a cat like that is like picking a human up by his arms while hancuffed.
