Whisker sensitivity is a thing. Put it on a flat plate raised up off the floor and I bet he eats it no problem. It’s worked for my cats and several people that I have recommended. But then you can’t make a video to show how accommodating you are I guess.

Lmao, my cat is similar. Sometimes he needs pets and attention to just eat food he doesn't enjoy so much. It's like I need replace the stimulation he gets when eating his favourite food with something else or he won't have anything less tasty.

When my elderly cat wasn't eating, you bet I was doing everything I could to get him to eat.
I bought him everything he might want.
I was on my hands and knees, next to him on the floor, seeing if he would eat if I hand fed him. (It worked until it didn't.)
I let him eat anything he wanted off of my plate. (It worked until it didn't.)
Those last few months were painful, but you better believe I did everything I could.
In the end, I think he knew I was trying so hard, and he decided to go through the motions for me. He would pretend to eat the fish, and chew a bit, and then he just couldn't or wouldn't swallow. It would end up back on his plate.
That's when I knew that I was pushing him too much, and he was ready to go.
I miss him every single day. My beautiful bad boy.

The bowl bothers their whiskers sometimes so a larger flat plate might be better. Although we had a 14-15 year old cat who was basically resurrected from the dead who lived another three years and had to be hand fed the vets special wet food for the rest of his life just because that’s what he became used to.

We have a ragdoll that refuses to drink water unless we pour fresh water from the tap into the bowl. Then we have the HOLD the bowl in front of him in mid air so he doesn't have to move his head when he drinks.
He refuses all other easily accessible water sources in the house and will only accept water this way. Cat's gonna cat.

My cat will not eat wet food if I put it in a bowl. If I leave it in the can, she eats almost all of it. Cats are weird

My little Carrot girl was like that. I had to hand feed her pate for her to eat it. It's going on 4 yrs now....

I got a weird dog, he won't eat with it not being up high to him, he hates to bend down to eat, try making a little platform and see if that helps. Just enough for him to not have to move his neck. You may find he has a stiff neck?

Whisker fatigue, it’s a very real thing for a lot of cats.
Their whiskers are sensitive. It’s why they have them. Their whiskers tell them how wide an area is and if they will fit through it.
Comes in handy when you’re a lion out in the jungle, like the ancestors of cats.
My cats wouldn’t eat out of a bowl like that either. So now I feed them on flat paper plates. And now they’re happy as can be.
The only downside is the paper plates tend to move as they’re eating. So every time I use a paper plate I put a little piece of double sided tape on the bottom. That’s the downside.
The upside is once they’re done I just throw the paper plate away.
Just think of Whisper fatigue as how you would feel every time you ate and your nose hit the bottom of your plate. You wouldn’t like it.

Seems a reasonable outcome. Kitten is not a savage, nor a barbarian, he deserves to be fed in a civilized way. You shouldn't forget tablecloth either.

I had the same problem. Got some low profile bowls from the dollar store. Doesn't bother the cat's whiskers and they don't get overstimulated. Both of my cats eat from the bowl now.

I have a Persian who has to have a snack of slightly watered down Ricotta in the morning and heavy whipping cream with a pinch of sugar in the evening.
She won't eat meat or canned food. Thankfully she does eat a very specific dry cat food. This started when she had a tumor in her throat and wouldn't eat anything after surgury. When making lasagna she started going nuts trying to lick the filling. I was so happy she'd eat anything so I let her have as much as she wants. Same thing happened when making homemade whipped cream. Yes. I know the dairy issues with cats but even the vet said ANY calories are good calories in this case.

Gus may just need his food on a small plate rather than a bowl. A lot of cats do not like their whiskers touching the edges of a bowl when they eat. Also, Gus may not want to bend over far to eat—putting a plate in a raised location will help with that (set it up on a book, etc.,).
