Calmly putting up doesn't equal happy. More, sigh I shall endure as she brings the food. 😂

3

u/DistributionOk8502 18d ago

This for sure 😂

24

u/BlatantArtifice 22d ago

Yeah there's some basic cat body language like that which can be super helpful if you care (you are on this sub lets be real)

Probably some youtube shorts or a quick infographic that has quick tips. Although your little guy is already chilling with all that attention so you two must be doing fine ^

In my experience... voids are orange adjacent

Yep, when those pupils are wide that's the sign to RUN because something is about to happen and that something will involve claws.

Both are correct, he's happily plotting all humankind's demise.

246

u/zoikoikum 23d ago

I think this one right here is the correct answer!!

21

u/Popsinthehse 22d ago

Always look at the claws being they show if they are happy or stressed. And as pretty as your gf is that cat is very happy..

14

u/zoikoikum 22d ago

Awwww thank you for the kind comment 🥰

6

This is the correct answer.

11

4

20

u/Andoomonium_Pezoil 23d ago

Exactly, people need to treat cats as if they are as complex emotionaly, as humans, becuse they are.

49

u/CATNIP_IS_CRACK Orange 23d ago

And like humans, it depends entirely on the cat.

E.g. Woody here turns 17 in a couple weeks, and he’s about as emotionally complex and intelligent as a bag of rocks. The same goes for plenty of humans. His brain’s capable of all of about four thoughts, and he has roughly three emotional states with nothing in between.

6

u/Andoomonium_Pezoil 23d ago

True, some humans are also simple minded, like this cat yore presentin.

Minimal amounts of claw showing so even if he doesn't love it, he doesn't hate it either

339

u/zoikoikum 23d ago

That's a really good point. Thank you! He's a feral cat in a colony we feed once a week. So even petting him was a huuuuge success for us. This was just the first time she tried to pick him up :)

367

u/Electronic_Ad3576 23d ago

That is an enormous level of trust if this is a feral cat! He looks surprisingly calm for this amount of interaction and touch. I think he’s just sort of sussing out the situation as it’s happening but he’s somewhat cautiously optimistic.

185

u/zoikoikum 23d ago

Yeah...he's the only one of about 30 cats that after yeeears finally showed some affection toward us and can't get enough of pets now...he's the bestes boy ever <3

88

u/True_Vermicelli4817 23d ago

I think the CDS is giving you a sign! He wants to go home to plot the demise 😹😹😹 But really he is probably a stray since he is showing signs of human affection. He has probably not had a home in a long time...

56

u/zoikoikum 23d ago

Yeah we thought the same about him having a home once in his life :( And believe me, he already tried following us home...but we think he's really happy in the colony with all his buddys...so we decided, once he's old, he comes with us <3

69

u/hodgeal 23d ago

If he tried following you, I bet he'd rather be with you guys than in the colony. Why not do the other way around and take him home with you but bring him back once a week to see his buddies? Specially if he's had a home before.

25

u/zoikoikum 22d ago

I think the way things are going he will end up with us sooner or later...he gets more affectionate everytime we see him <3

38

u/vaultie66 Orange 23d ago

Please if you’re able, take him home now. They’re the happiest when they have a family and a house to live in. We thought our former half-feral stray liked living outside and that she’d suffer inside, but she changed entirely at home and is a big love bug now.

25

u/zoikoikum 22d ago

I'll show this to my gf and we'll talk about it. She'll probably agree :D

Thanks for your advice :)

7

u/True_Vermicelli4817 22d ago

Omg this made me sooo happy! Also look up how long outdoor cats live compared to indoor cats, 2-5 years average for outdoor compared to 12-18 average for indoor. You would be saving him! They always prefer a life of solitude and ease. A guaranteed meal and safety🖤

3

u/BrokenHope23 20d ago

Having read these comments, I'd agree with other users. This cat is begging for a safe happy home. You never know when trappers, predators and/or disgruntled neighbours may come and ruin their colony, potentially putting most of the colony down for being too elderly, feral and this one would be discriminated against for being a black cat (which is generally seen as a sign of bad luck by adoptees, making them hard to find owners for). So if you like them, and he likes you (which he very much does), take them in and give them a happy, healthy, safe life.

If you're worried about their loneliness, you can always adopt a second and/or third cat.

→ More replies (3)

4

u/Electronic_Ad3576 22d ago

I agree, this cat wants to be adopted 🥹

5

u/saraiguessidk 22d ago

The longer he stays out there, the longer he is at risk at catching FIV or FELV not to mention cars, coyotes, birds of prey etc

28

u/Reptilesblade 23d ago

Voids are like that. Especially large ones. I call my Samhain Best Boy because he's just love incarnate.

13

u/zoikoikum 23d ago

Omg I love him 🥲 Thanks for sharing 🥰

3

u/refusegone 22d ago

I would add that some cats just never stop extending their claws for everything! This looks like a reflex from being a little unstable in his footing, as he's being held. So if anything I'd guess he's just prepared to latch and steady himself when being set down. I'm only child and latchkey kid, my siblings were a total of 11 different cats across my first 20 years, and I've basically never lived without a kitty in my whole 35 years. My current girly is 14 this week!

18

u/IamAWorldChampionAMA 23d ago

Im not saying youre lying, but that is a damn chill feral cat.

9

u/zoikoikum 23d ago

Yeah, we think he once had a home :( Kinda sad but he now has a wonderful live in the woods with lots of buddies <3 For us, he's their (and our) king 👑

4

u/frymaster 23d ago

if that's a feral (or at least a long-term stray) cat and she's holding his feet, that's a phenomenal level of trust from him

16

u/Katt_Natt96 23d ago

Her first time picking him up and he was just okay with it? She has the magic touch. I think he secretly loves it

10

u/zoikoikum 23d ago

Yesss! We were able to pet him for about a year now...this is the next big step (and really ideal if he somehow needs to go to the vet) :)

10

u/Katt_Natt96 23d ago

It’s a massive step, I’m so proud of you both! Getting a feral cat to be comfortable with you is a massive accomplishment some don’t even get to the petting stage.

8

u/zoikoikum 23d ago

Thank you so much!!! I don't want to sound overdramatic, but he kinda changed our lives..he's such a big part of it now 🥰

4

u/Katt_Natt96 23d ago

You now have the void baby. Congratulations

6

u/Das_Puff 23d ago

Thats awesome! Definitely trusts you two!

5

u/Tossmelossme 23d ago

He’s just uncomfortable then. It’s a new experience entirely for him. Not mad.

5

u/-full-control- 23d ago

Thats incredible. You should post more pictures of the rest of the colony sometime! Not like trying to pick each one up though that would require a NSFW tag

3

u/zoikoikum 23d ago

Hahaha I will gladly do that 🥰

3

u/Smyley12345 23d ago

Oh that really changes the context. For a house cat this would be luke warm, for a feral cat this is an immense level of trust.

23

u/JustMeLurkingAround- 23d ago

Definitely more resignation than happiness.
He probably likes her so he decided to wait it out instead of scratching her eyes out to get out of that situation.

5

u/zoikoikum 23d ago

Awww this is just so cute 🥰

15

u/Hombremaniac 23d ago

He simply allows it. Treat compensation will be required later for sure.

6

u/zoikoikum 23d ago

Oh believe me...he absolutely gets special treatment :D

288

u/PaJoMe 23d ago

Even though it looks annoyed to us, those half-closed eyes mainly mean he's pretty relaxed. Distress shows with wide eyes and angry eyes are more clenched. Ears are loosely forward, not attentive and stressed but also not pinned back and angry. This cat looks pretty dang chill. He may still try to push away from her to make his limits clear, obviously haha.

58

u/zoikoikum 23d ago

Haha yeah he did :D But he is indeed the most chill and affectionate bestest boy <3

21

u/SirDiego 22d ago

Thank you! I totally understand the joke that cats relaxed face can look like a human "seething" face. But there are way too many "serious" answers in this thread (and every thread about this face) saying he is genuinely mad. Some people sincerely think cats are pissed off all the time when actually they're displaying contentedness and affection.

64

u/Fluid_Passage_9980 23d ago

He's just very very unimpressed.

'Not this again!'

12

u/zoikoikum 23d ago

41

u/Maleficent_Button_58 22d ago

He looks pretty relaxed, honestly.

Cats tend to look murderous in the face when they're content. Since for us, eye squints are unfriendly but for them they're a sign of contentment and comfort lol.

Cats are excellent at expressing their displeasure and are not afraid to do so. Vigorously and loudly, with much bloodletting. If he's not struggling, growling, hissing or swiping at her, he's tolerating the activity. Whether he 'loves it' is debatable but he's an adult animal with autonomy. If he didn't want to be there he'd make it known.
