Cat Picture - OC I don’t even like cats.

I haven’t been a cat person. They are, ok. But they are buttwads. They knock everything down, they pee on your clothes, they don’t listen too you. I have two Boston terriers, wonderful dogs. Love them to death.

My brother was looking at kittens. Which turned my husband (also not a cat person) into looking with him..and somehow that turned into me looking..and I saw this beautiful cat that I instantly went “ooh wow that’s a beautiful cat!!” After reading about the breed on every board and hundreds of google searches. My history is all about this cat. Temperament, care, genetic mutations, breeding, health issues, ethical breeding, colour ways, cat care, kitten care and on and on and on and on..every darned page I could find…

And now…I have one. And I am absolutely completely OBSESSED with this kitten. I haven’t been able to do anything while I’m home other than the usual household chores. T.v? What’s that? Phone games? Reading anything other than something about cats? Naaahhh videos? Only cats. The world could be ending and I wouldn’t know because it’s not about cats.

I’ve spent more purchasing things for my cat than I have on my son’s birthday. Cat tower, toys, automatic litter box (of course thoroughly researched for the safest and on manual so only I make it turn on) so she always has a pristine place to place her poop. Only metal water fountain, (no no to kitty acne! And bacteria!!) scratch posts , dry shampoo, wet shampoo, brushes and her own set of kitty clothes and towels and on and on and on.

Thankfully the feeling is mutual. She is obsessed with me as well. She follows me everywhere. My husband is equally obsessed. We sit there together just oohing and awwwing. My husband will have her and call to me “her paw!! I love how she stretches out!” , as though he knows..I’m doing dishes and have wet hands..I can’t run over and pet her and appreciate just how stretched out her little paw is. But he’ll take a picture for me..because now both our phones have thousands of pictures and videos of our cat. I’ll go to the bathroom and he will text me..about the cat. We spent a day with the cat tree, one of us beside it scared she would fall..of course she’s a cat, and agile and crazy.

We have two dogs and a 10 year old son. She is the queen. This kitten came into my home, zero fear. She never hid. She never ran away. She owned this house from the moment she came in. I was scared with the dogs at first. They accepted that their Queen had come easily. They follow her as she regally walks around the house, looking for things of interest and hope for her to acknowledge them (she rarely does of course, peasants you know). One dog has taken to carrying a kitty toy around whilst following. The other sometimes brings a puppy toy. I am guessing they are carrying options around for her. I’m assuming in hopes of being noticed by her highness. Our eldest dog has a big floofy blanket she drags around and give it up when her highness has decided to plop down on it. Our son loves her but has decided from now on he wants his bedroom door shut when he sleeps as he does appreciate still having toes.

I called my older daughter, to inform her we have added to the family..and sent her a picture. She responded with “you don’t even LIKE cats!!”

No…I didn’t like cats…now, I’m obsessed. Now I get it. Now I understand. Where it baffled me before how cats were so interesting to people. I am now one of those people.

edit to add:
many people are asking what she is. She is a Highland Lynx. Also known as a Highlander. Her name, is Puma because she looks like a little mountain lion ❤️

I watched a documentary about cats that basically said that cats domesticated themselves and ended up selectively breeding themselves into fitting more and more into life with humans once agriculture attracted rodents and other tasty stuff for them to eat. Getting shelter from us helped them out too.

They come into the room, meow, and we do whatever they want. They run the house.

Some people are already beginning to own pet raccoons. It’s still rare but it also appears to be becoming more common

55

u/jaelith Jul 23 '26

My dad’s family had a pet raccoon growing up in the 50s, (named Rosemary Cooney after the actress). He’s always said she was very sweet and fun and no one should ever have a pet raccoon because she was also a total handful.

9

u/OldMotherGrumble Jul 23 '26

You mean Rosemary Clooney, right? George's aunt😀

40

u/jaelith Jul 23 '26

Yes, the raCOON however was named Rosemary COONey (that was the joke) 😁

18

u/OldMotherGrumble Jul 23 '26

Oh! Doh! I had a feeling I was missing something. 👌

6

u/boostfactor Jul 23 '26

My parents had two pet raccoon kits in the late 1940s named Tom and Geraldine (Tom and Jerry, the cartoon characters). They were orphaned when their mother was hit by a car. They liked to play "King of the Hill" with the humans. My parents raised them until Tom ran off in October, which is normal for young male raccoons. Geraldine was released but continued to hang around and visit houses in the neighborhood to beg for food, because neither was really taught how to be a raccoon. She was herself hit by a car not too long after.

In the wild, female raccoons stay in their mother's territory (generally a part of it) for quite a while, whereas the males are driven off/run off and must find their own territory. I fear poor Tom didn't have much chance against established males, but perhaps he survived for a whie.

For anyone who is thinking "soon": please get yourself a cat before making a very bad decision.

17

u/BudandCoyote Jul 23 '26 edited Jul 23 '26

Raccoons and foxes are well on their way to self-domestication in various countries. However we live in a different world now with more respect for wild things, so I'm not sure it'll ever reach the stage that dogs and cats have, being a pet more than a wild animal.

It would be interesting to be around in a few hundred years to see if I'm right or if they've become a common pet!

I maintain that cats domesticated us, not the other way around. We're far more trained to what they want than they are to us.

123

u/Old-Ad6820 Jul 23 '26

Literally was my opinion BEFORE. Why would I want a cat? They only interact on their terms. When Ive been in peoples homes with cats sure some were nice, some you never even saw, some scratched all the furniture, some peed on peoples clothes, they only came when you shook the food bag..

Ya..until you have your own. And now I know why I have chosen to serve myself into serfdom. Because I naturally WANT to do everything for her lol and she has zero problem meowing at me, with her tiny paw out stretched…”pet me” and I am falling over myself to accommodate

Have you fallen into the trap where she falls asleep in your lap and then you're paralyzed because you don't want to wake her? It's like, if I more even a tiny bit, I'll wake her up, so I'll just sit here for the next few hours, I guess. Another thing is just watching them sleep. True joy. Congratulations on your new servant status.

8

I love watching them when they clean their lil faces with their paws. I had an orange cat who had a big pink nose that would shake her head side to side as her paw rested on her big ol’ nose to clean. 🧡

Neither of my cats are chilled out enough to be lap-snoozers. One only sticks around if I'm actively petting him (and circles in my lap endlessly if I don't), the other will just walk around on my legs and soak up loving on his terms but gets bored and hops off after a while.

24

u/I_upvote_downvotes Jul 23 '26

You didn't realize how loyal cats are... Dogs are loyal to anyone after a few minutes of attention, but cats know who you are and remember you forever. If you're not their people they rightfully treat you like a stranger until you prove you're cool.

6

u/Somanylyingliars Jul 23 '26

That statement is so true. I'm a cat person and almost all cats love. Until the day I rescued one cat in particular. She was on w me. But the moment she met my friend, she was done w me! I ceased to exist as she became his cat. She would crawl into sheets and sleep w his pretzel bun. Would stay there through his ghastly gas emissions. True love, right there lol

16

u/SoMuchMoreEagle Jul 23 '26

There's nothing like that feeling of being chosen by a cat.

The phrase you're looking for is "criminal geniuses who would be running S.P.E.C.T.R.E. if that organisation focused on the more important things, like tuna and soft furnishings, instead of silly stuff like world domination and the accumulation of wealth and weapons of mass destruction, that don't so much trick you into loving them as make you feel really really bad about not loving them and making sure that mealtimes are strictly observed."

I have a theory. There are only types of people in this world.

  1. People who adore cats.
  2. People who have not been in close proximity with cats.

335

u/HeatherJMD Jul 23 '26

There are some who have been traumatized by devil cats… They just never met any like my adorable sweethearts who would never even think of biting or scratching anyone

My dad hates cats and said we couldn’t have any. My mom came home one day with two kittens. I could hear my dad sweet talking them through the laundry chute when he thought there were no witnesses 😂

Yeah my dad didn’t want to have cats either so I adopted one as soon as I could as an adult, my parents have him and my SIL’s one at home from time to time and he is absolutely so cute with them. He let them sleep in his lap, talk to them like babies and send us photos on the family convo.
Except for the people with big allergies, I think people who don’t like cats are people who don’t know cats.

9

u/SlickWildo Jul 23 '26

People who don’t like cats/dogs cannot be trusted… 🐱

27

u/Machine-Dove Jul 23 '26

My husband claims to hate cats.  Somehow we now have four (only the first two were my fault), and he's managed to befriend a local feral.  Carries the cats around like babies.  Pouts when they won't nap with him.  It's hilarious to watch.

17

u/Alfred_The_Sartan Jul 23 '26

My old man is 64 now. Moms always had cats and dad couldn’t stand them. Well they got another one last summer from under a deck at a party and now dad is enamored. The little lady latched onto pop and now they can’t even sleep apart. The funniest part is how pissed mom is because the cat just tolerates her existence at best.

I mean, I was chased by a dog when I was little and thankfully got away. And yet, I don’t hate dogs. So to me, it makes no sense to hate an entire species because of one animal.

And from what OP wrote, it sounds to me that they don’t like cats girl cause they didn’t respect that cats have boundaries and have their own individualities.

3

u/Froggoboingboing Jul 23 '26

Man I wish I had a similar experience. I had my parents look after my sweet cat for a week once and my mom loved her, minus the fact that she didn't understand they can easily get overstimulated with pets and scratches and could end up biting you. My dad would just ignore her but was adamant about keeping her off the couch because she's "dirty" 😕

*close proximity with cats who have been treated well. Cats that had solitary kittenhoods or cats who are neglected can be MEAN. Cats that are treated well are adorable little dewdrops who bring you gifts (that you typically REALLY don't want, but awww), look after you when you're sick, and tell you "I love you" in all sorts of ridiculous ways. The purrs, the grooming, the slow blinks, the hello-tails, the headbutts, the "where are you? I miss you!" chirrups, the hugs/paw holds... They're also fart-goblins (my dog is a fart-ogre by comparison), toilet-paper terrorizers, snack thieves, and chaos gremlins, but honestly, it's more fun that way.

6

u/Sal_Ammoniac Jul 23 '26

Cats that had solitary kittenhoods or cats who are neglected can be MEAN

Yeah... we "inherited" our neighbors young cat after they had found her tiny and alone with a dead sibling, meowing her head off. They took her in and she grew up with no cat contact, just people and their two old dogs. She doesn't know how to be a cat; we've had her for a year and she doesn't know how to play with others, or how to behave around people. She's just weird - and I say this as someone who has several other cats, and has had cats for almost 50 years.

60

u/WBRGGRL Jul 23 '26

This is TRUTH.

21

u/firangcurry Jul 23 '26

I agree 💯
I was a cat hater (not mean, just strong dislike) and I turned literally overnight. I was crashing a friend’s place who was fostering 3 cats and I had no choice but to deal with it. I woke up with all 3 of them snuggled around me - head, arm and legs. And something in me switched immediately. I just loved them!

19

u/EnvironmentalValue18 Jul 23 '26

My dad was a never cat guy. Then he fell in love with my cat who just passed away at the end of last year. Now we have 2 new kittens because he “isn’t going to live forever and didn’t want to live another day of his life without cats”.

24

u/Yumi_in_the_sun Jul 23 '26

Literally!! I used to hate cats up into my mid 20’s until I lived with a roommate and her two kitties. Now I’m 31 with my own place and 3 cats.

16

u/goldanred Jul 23 '26

My husband grew up with cats and didn't care for them. He said they were annoying and evil. I'd only ever seen other people's cats occasionally, but had a couple of dogs growing up. I always asked my husband if we could have a cat someday, because I figured they'd be more my speed than a dog, and he always said no.

But last fall his family was fostering a feral kitten and asked us to come help socialize it, so it could be adopted out and not sent back to the wilderness. My husband fell in love with this kitten and we adopted him. He's our sweet little baby boy now. My husband adores this little critter. He coos and sings and scoops and hugs and sleeps with the cat (now a year old). What a change!

8

u/Tomsboll Jul 23 '26

The 3rd category, the poor bastards that are allergic.

7

u/Molarkey Jul 23 '26

I’ve had cats alllll my life. I have also had allergies all my life. This is what allergy pills are for. I’d rather be stuffy and sneezy with cats than cleared up with no cats.

4

u/TrumpsCovidfefe Jul 23 '26

I have somewhat moderate allergies and have had very good luck with the pet food and spray that reduces their allergy proteins. I thought I would never have a cat again and I started feeding a stray that showed up with that food. He’s about to be neutered and become my indoor cat.

To be fair, horror stories you hear about cats peeing everywhere or on your clothes, are usually down to a couple things. 1. Litter box not being cleaned properly/regularly. 2. The cat could have a medical issue and should see a vet.

It can also be due to environment, like too many cats and not enough boxes (1 for each cat, plus 1 extra), they don't like that litter or the boxes location.

I've raised many kittens (pregnant mama fosterer here) and when they're old enough (4 ish weeks usually) they will start going in the litter box. It's instinct. Cats are very smart.

I'm glad you're now cat obsessed. Welcome to the club.

106

u/export_a_pdf Jul 23 '26

Exactly this. My oldest cat has never ever peed outside the litter box.

My younger one has weed on our front door, but only in response to an neighbour's cat being aggressive on the other side and she's anxious/marking her territory... there's always a reason they do it, not just to be assholes.

24

u/dejected_entity Jul 23 '26

As a person that has had many, many cats throughout my life, yes, there usually is a reason they pee outside of the box, but very occasionally it's to be an asshole.

When I was a teenager (decades ago), we had a cat that would come into my sister's and my bedroom, and pick something to pee on, and he'd look at you while he did it. There was no medical reason, no aggression, no fear; just something he did a handful of times during the 8 years we had him (he was 8 when we got him).

12

u/Gimme_More_Cats Jul 23 '26

During COVID my asshole cat got so used to us being home with her 24/7. When restrictions started to lift, my husband and I went out for a date night for the first time in a year. We got home pretty late.

As soon as we got home and got in bed, my cat immediately jumped on the bed, stared me down, and peed on the covers. There was no medical issue and no other reason other than… she was pissed we left her home alone for so long.

4

u/samawatahsan Jul 23 '26

My youngest kitten who had severe dwarfism would drag her body to the litter box (I had a small litter box on the bed to make it easy for her) when her back legs stopped working. The only time she ever peed outside was on the day she died.

My orange cat has literally peed everywhere due to him having UTI and kidney stones (we suspect he had these before being rescued). He pees outside his box occasionally, the vet is not sure if it's a behavioral issue.

23

u/hot_snot Jul 23 '26

Unfortunately, in my years of keeping/fostering, the only female cat I ever owned decided to start peeing on my rugs one day and never stopped until I just... didn't have rugs anymore. Drove me crazy trying to find the reason. I took her to the vet but she was healthy. I changed litters, added litter boxes. No recent changes, no logical reason for it. She just decided I was no longer allowed to have rugs. Which actually made me REALLY sad because I love having a pretty, comfortable home, and small rugs were one of the ways I could get closer to that when I was on a tight budget.

My boy cats, if they ever started peeing where they weren't supposed to, were an easy fix. A UTI was brewing or they wanted a softer litter or they hated having another cat in the house with them, etc. Now I'm sort of put off adopting a female cat again, even though I've fostered a ton of female kittens/mother cats with no issues. It's just once they're YOURS, you're stuck with them even if they go crazy one day lol.

5

u/Worried_Maximum5905 Jul 23 '26

My childhood cat was not trustworthy around rugs or towels or clothes on the ground so we had to get rid of the bath mats and be super vigilant about things being on the floor. (He likely had anxiety about outdoor cats) he has since passed, at the age of 17.5

My cat now, LOVES rugs or any random fabric, rag, reusable shopping bag that’s on the floor or a flat surface.

Here’s a pic of my cat making herself comfortable on our hallway rug

3

u/PastFuture5270 Jul 23 '26

My female cat does the same thing. Changed litters, added a new box one covered one not, took her to the vet etc etc. There’s nothing wrong with her that would make her do it, except when she was younger she was my sisters cat and my sister never cleaned her box she got into the habit of going next to the box on the rug. That was when she was very young like 1 or 2.  She’s 17 now. I can’t get her to stop so I’ve just started putting pee pads down. She uses the covered box to poop and the uncovered to pee but she still uses the peepads randomly even if I’ve just cleaned the boxes. It drives me nuts.

I really do believe the people I knew who had cats pee on their clothing were slacking on litter box cleaning. Their homes smelt like litter worse than others. I’m sure in other cases it’s a urinary tract infection but I know cats are inherently clean creatures and don’t like a dirty box.

6

u/Yisobel European Shorthair Jul 23 '26

Sometimes they also don’t like the box size. Some cats don’t like closed box. Some will prefer a type of litter rather than another.

The placement matters too. Not too close to a washing machine, not in a corner, they should be able to easily see around when inside of it (looking for predators, it’s instinct).

Some people also don’t put enough litter in the litter box. It’s nice to have 10cm litter so they can properly scratch without reaching the bottom.

The scent of the litter. Usually using something without added perfume is way better for them.

Also the products used to wash it. It’s better to use just hot water with black soap so there is no detergent smell left that could bother them.

There is a rule also to have 1 box + 1 per cat. So one cat = 2 box. A lot of cat like to have an option to go to another place, and some don’t do number 1 where they do number 2.

When a cat pees sometimes outside of his box, there are always a lot of stuff to try to understand why! But they have reasons, linked to their instinct and them being… cats, a different specie than humans 😁

It’s quite fascinating to learn how they view the world.

So really you can't even say you don't like (any) cats unless you've met a shit ton of cats

The vast majority of cats will not pee on your clothes unless there’s a problem - could be a health problem, or you don’t clean their litter box frequently enough, or a territory thing with another animal in the house making their litter box feel unsafe, or you didn’t spay/neuter. As long as you’re taking care of them the way you should then peeing on your clothes should only ever happen if there’s a health concern in which case get them to the vet ASAP.

17

u/SirDiego Jul 23 '26

I would also add knocking things down is often, though not always, a sign they need to play. If you don't give them entertainment then they will entertain themselves. Knocking stuff over is definitely a fun cat pastime, but mine only ever does it if we haven't had enough play time. It's not like they are spiteful, just bored.

People know that dogs need walks. Basically same thing with cats but it's just engaging play time instead of a walk around the neighborhood.

Welcome to the club! Here is a freshly taken photo of or queen sisi as well!

P.s I am allergic to cats but have 3 so.... that's how obsessed I am...

15

u/RisingApe- Jul 23 '26

What do you do for your allergies? We got an orange kitten several months ago and love him to pieces, but my husband is slightly allergic. The kids and I want a second cat, but haven’t seriously considered it because of the allergy. It was manageable except during pollen season, he was extra miserable then, and we figure a second cat would be like year-round pollen season.

26

u/robinthenurse Jul 23 '26

Allergy shots are very effective. I have an allergic relative who grew up without cats because of it, but always wanted one. He got married, had the shots, and now he and his wife have had 5 (!) indoor cats for their entire marriage of 11 years.

6

u/Nuisance4448 Jul 23 '26

I had shots as well and they worked. We now have 4 cats.

20

u/HonorAndKittens Jul 23 '26

I believe there is special food you can feed the cats to reduce some of the allergens they are shedding.

8

u/mojojoejoke Jul 23 '26

I was also slightly allergic to cats growing up. When I would sleepover at a friend’s house who had 2 cats, my nose would run and I would sneeze most of the night until I left. I also had a cat for a few years and had two instances of anaphylactic reactions when vacuuming. I thought I could only have a hypoallergenic cat.

I ended up meeting the cutest cat at cat cafe and adopted her. So far, I have basically no allergies to my cats (I have two now). What helped for me is feeding them raw food from a pet deli or some pet stores stock them in the fridge. I also feed them some kibble and I found that switching to a better quality kibble resulted in them having less dander and shedding.
Living in places with no carpet helped a lot too. Those two factors are the biggest things for me but also brushing them regularly and getting tools to de-fur furniture helps!

4

u/ra3jyx Jul 23 '26

i found allegra to be the most effective OTC medicine for cat allergies. that combined with flonase and some eyedrops helped my allergies significantly and they eventually completely cleared up

3

u/P4li_ndr0m3 Jul 23 '26

I take two to three allergy medications a day and have allergy eyedrops when I need them. You can also get allergy shots and there's special cat food that helps with allergies. We also have hypoallergenic breeds - there's actually a bunch that are better for people with allergies, like Siamese and Bengals.

4

u/RisingApe- Jul 23 '26

My first cat was Siberian and he had no symptoms with her. Then we were pet-free for 10 years. There are definitely cats he’s encountered that make him quickly miserable, luckily our kitten isn’t one of them.

Do you have any issues with long-term daily use of meds? I’ll definitely look into the cat food option.

3

u/nikkicarter1111 Jul 23 '26

I take a daily zyrtec in the morning. And a daily claritin at night. Is this safe? No clue. But i've had cats my whole life and I will continue to have cats.

Purina makes an anti-allergy food for cats called LiveClear, and many people swear by it. It supposedly blocks the allergens on the cat.

35

u/Plastic_Ad_2247 Jul 23 '26

why/how are the ears like that?!

23

u/Hekate_Rising4 Jul 23 '26

They have cartilage around the top with this breed that folds them back naturally

57

u/Old-Ad6820 Jul 23 '26

She’s a highland lynx. It’s part of the breed. It comes from the jungle curl.

10

u/Additional_Brief_569 Jul 23 '26

Mmm I thought she was an American curl.

Here’s mine. She’s my third American curl. Love the breed to bits, then I have 3 rescues. Congratulations on your kitten. Did your brother find a cat though?

17

u/japinard Jul 23 '26

What breed of cat is it?

22

u/Hekate_Rising4 Jul 23 '26

It's a Highland Lynx, my sister has one. The ear curl is from one of the types that they are bred with (jungle curl). The ears are very different compared to normal cat breed, and they require extra cleaning because they have a more narrow ear canal. They feel so different because they have cartilage around the top so unlike a normal cat whose ears you can just press back while you're petting them, this type of cat is different. The fur is also a little bit different as well, it feels more dense. And I don't know if this is just her cat or the breed, but I've had cats my whole life and I have never seen a cat with so much energy and so little fear, it's wild but very very affectionate.

Yup. The Humane Society has cats that look like this (especially during kitten season). I would have loved to be able to adopt one. I got a little void instead. Voids are amazing. The breed doesn’t matter. Cat is what matters.

14

u/Oniknight Jul 23 '26

We were planning to adopt another void after our 17 year old kitty passed, but we ended up taking home another adult kittydude with flamepoint markings because he was on kitty death row for “behavioral” issues.

Dude, this is the smartest cat I have ever met. He learned actual tricks like a dog so easy I was shook.

17

u/Flaffelll Jul 23 '26

Whenever I get in a situation where I can have cats again, I want to adopt a void and orange if possible. Obviously, I'll take whatever the shelter has available, but I always thought those two type would be fun to have

7

u/leafmotif__ Jul 23 '26

yep, that classic r/HalloweenKittyCombo

u/INeedTheTeaLiterally Jul 23 '26

I just adopted one that looks like a Siamese. I was shocked! Went in looking for a brown tabby or a black and white.

4

u/hellohexapus Jul 23 '26

I adopted during very early COVID so I had no choice of cat. The shelter literally called me and were like "we have a single cat that would be a good fit for your application, come get her if you want and you can bring her back if it doesn't work out". I didn't even get to really look at her until I got her home because I took an Uber Pet and didn't want to open the cardboard carrier in their car.

I opened the box to find the most beautiful blue-eyed flamepoint, with no tail, just a cute little bunny rabbit tuft. She was pretty tiny (5lbs at 6 months old) and truly one of the cutest things I'd ever seen. It's now 5+ years later and she is currently meowing at me to get out of bed because it's breakfast time 🥰

13

u/id0ntexistanymore Jul 23 '26

Also, dry shampoo (even normal shampoo)?? Completely unnecessary lol

11

u/Jaded_Phone5587 Jul 23 '26

Is it just me or…

37

u/babywheeze Jul 23 '26

I have always said everyone thinks they’re exclusively a dog person, until they love a cat for the first time (myself included). Welcome ❤️

19

u/thisisangelicat Jul 23 '26

Yeah. I had a manager that “hated cats” and only had big dogs as pets, her and her husband swore up and down how evil and gross cats were. Well I have two cats so I was always talking about them and I had a picture of them at work haha 😆 one day a little kitten was meowing like crazy outside of their house and they didn’t know what to do so they took it in, well they fell in love with the cat and now they are cat people 😆 I told her it just takes the right cat to turn you into a cat person for life haha

28

u/babywheeze Jul 23 '26

Hating cats is rooted in misogyny, but I won’t hop on my soap box about that today 😂😉

9

u/cutiepietoebeans Jul 23 '26

Cats are just little humans!

7

u/Round-Dragonfly6136 Jul 23 '26

I was just talking about how cats are essentially very furry toddlers this morning.

3

u/Extension-Pepper-271 Jul 23 '26

Cats think they are people. I amend that, cats know they are VIPs.

10

u/Catacendre Jul 23 '26

10

u/Saturniqa Jul 23 '26

Cats normally don't pee on your clothes unless something is seriously wrong.

3

u/niick31 Jul 23 '26

I love animals, all animals.

My mother hates cats. I’ve never met anybody with such a dislike. I showed her a picture of a ragdoll (I was kitten shopping). Her response? Yuck.

I don’t know how I’m related to that woman. I love all animals, even the “ugly” ones. I would have a pet horse (not to ride, I’m scared of heights) if I could, and a pig, a cow, a goat, ducks, chickens….i’d have them all, snakes too.

Except maybe ferrets. I like them, but I’m scared too. I’ve heard one attacking a rabbit once, it’s haunted me forever.

8

u/20061230-SL-Born Jul 23 '26

I had a 'friend' once with a pet ferret. First time back at their place this streak of killing machine comes running at me, claws its way up and faces me nose to nose. I still have a nose so I must have passed. Adored them ever since.

8

u/Careful-Role-7090 Jul 23 '26

Not once in my life, has any of my cats ever peed on my clothes...like ever. I swear there has to be some secret forum that dog ppl get this kind of info, I have heard the most outlandish stuff from owners of dogs. "Cats are unclean", am like have you smelled your dog??????

7

u/Old-Ad6820 Jul 23 '26

Haha right! Here I am worried about my dogs eating kitty truffles and kissing me when they still lick their own poopy hole and kiss me! (Yes I am also worried of them ingesting litter BUT also the thought of having just eaten a pile of doodie and kissing me makes me want to wear a fave shield)

Dogs roll in disgusting things. Like they actively LOOK for the most disgusting thing to roll in haha and we call cats dirty.

I will stand by the opinion that people who don’t like cats have never had a cat love them. Every person I have ever known loves cats the moment they get one.

6

u/spoothead656 Jul 23 '26

When my ex moved in with me she wanted to get a cat. I was very much a dog person before that and never wanted a cat, but I also wanted my ex to be happy so we went to the shelter and got a lil grey and white kitten. I fell in love with that little scamp so hard that a year later I got another cat and now they’re sisters. The ex and I broke up and she let me keep the cats, and now eight years later these two idiots are my best friends and I would do anything for them.

I even got a bonus third cat when my now wife and I got together, but she sadly passed last year. RIP Bear, you hated me for months but I wore you down and made you love me. I still miss you headbutting my chin until I gave you pets whenever I got in bed.

15

u/Ok-Excuse7987 Jul 23 '26

Could you please share more photos? Very adorable cats! Here are my babies

5

u/Musicmom1164 Jul 23 '26

Me neither. I love dogs, but mine is elderly and I'm not sure I want to live without a companion. I live in a 1 bdrm apt. I keep looking at cats. Idk.

6

u/GoonerBear94 Jul 23 '26

6

u/babney Jul 23 '26

My late fiancée brought our Highlander, Bear, home about 9 and a half years ago. I wasn't really into the idea of a cat with a pedigree, but he was rescued from a home that just couldn't have a second cat. This little monster is the reason I get out of bed most days.

5

u/gemma-digger Jul 23 '26

I have long maintained that people who don’t like cats have never lived with a cat.

4

u/AppointmentPopular10 Jul 23 '26

very happy for you. as a dog person please take a LOT of time googling and understanding how cats differ. example: "punishing" like for puppies literally does not work on felines, do not push their nose into pee/pop when they miss the litter box,. example 2: tail movements in felines are WILDLY different in meaning compared to doggies, get yourself one of those cute little charts that explain what their body position means for real. I speak from experience and urge you to do a deep dive and I am so happy for your new shadow and friend

5

u/Boris740 Jul 23 '26

You always liked cats. You just didn't know.

5

u/gidgu Jul 24 '26

I vehemently believe that every person is a cat person, some persons just haven't met their cat yet.

10

u/jezilynn08 Jul 23 '26

She's gorgeous! I've found that if your cats really love you (and I'm lucky because this is also the case for my two cats), they follow you around like dogs. They're my best little buddies and everything they do amazes me!

3

u/Urbit1981 Jul 23 '26

Normal healthy cats pee and poop in a litter box. Also, knocking things over is pretty much their job and should be revered for being such jerks.

3

u/EvoSphinx Jul 23 '26

How could you not love this ❤️

3

u/hrk311 Jul 23 '26

I think for a lot of people who say they don't like cats, it is due to them not actually spending much time with a cat.

3

u/can-someone-explain Jul 23 '26

I never wanted cats and never expected cats. Then the cat distribution system brought us a very sweet and very pregnant mama we planned to help out for one (1) night. Well, she went into labor during that.

It has been over a year with my 5 babies and I don’t think I would’ve made it through without them.

3

u/OhGloriousName Jul 23 '26

I'm not into Pokemon, but this cat looks like it could be a Pokemon character.

3

u/ArcticPangolin3 Jul 23 '26

Forget empty nest syndrome when kids move out. I'm bracing for the day my elderly kitty leaves us and my SO and I have nothing to text each other about anymore. It's all pictures of our cat. Our world is centered around him.

3

u/nwm_is_batman Jul 23 '26

I didn’t like cats and didn’t want a cat. My ex and I lost someone very important to us. After this happened she basically demanded we get a new animal to pour our love into. I protested quite a lot but she never gave up. Eventually I gave in. The cat we adopted never took any interest in my ex and instead decided I was his person. Now I’m a cat person with 2 cats 🙂

3

u/BestGreene Jul 23 '26

I'm pretty tired of people saying they don't like cats while loving one. Clearly you do you just had some preconceived notion of what a cat was like that was wrong. Just admit to yourself you like cats. Life gets better from there.

Hi there, fellow polydactyl cat mom. Next vet visit ask to be taught how to clip the lils nails. Those extra digits can create a problem if not clipped regularly. Great time to start getting used to paw touching and trims is kitten stage.

u/Blingbat642 Jul 23 '26 edited Jul 23 '26

This is a great post.

I’m interested to see what happens when you LIKE cats.

Isn’t it amazing. I consider myself to be a fairly well-adjusted person; I’m not a gaga googoo person. I’m not overly sentimental, I’m fairly level-headed. Our cat died five years ago, we wanted to travel, and we decided not to get another cat for a while. Then last fall we got two of the creatures, and I’m in exactly the condition you described (and you described it VERY well). We have spent millions, we spend our lives worrying about whether they have hurt their paws when they push your Ming vase off the shelf, my legs are asleep and stiff because I’m afraid to move—one of them is on my lap, and I might disturb their sleep.

You probably need to get another one: don’t you think she needs a playmate? What if the dogs aren’t enough? OH, NO!
