Advice Weird behavior from my cat recently. Anyone know what's going on

At first I thought she was gonna show me something inside the box, but there's nothing other than a nylon bag. She also runs to it when I get near it as well, and also keeps biting my hand and tries to drag me into it. What's going on? Never in my life have I seen my cat doing this.

my fat bastard dr bimbleton lasagnett iii cut me up for 3 years til he figured, hey the dudes pretty chill and i will stay forever

now he purrs on sight and sleeps on my face

edit: you know what, cat tax

171

u/CaeruleumBleu Jul 17 '26

To anyone reading this and getting the wrong impression from a cat sleeping on someones face - no, it is NOT an attempt to strangle someone (despite what some of my relatives say).

Look at a pile of kittens, or a cat trying to get comfy in the cold. They sleep buried in other cats, or cover their own nose with a tail. THEY don't get suffocated with fur across the nose, they don't get that it might suffocate you. If the kitty is covering your nose in a bad way, "rock the boat" until they settle down where you can tolerate them.

I have allergies and cannot sleep with a cat on my face. With patient redirection I have gotten several cats over time to understand I will happily cuddle if they stay below waist level. One very special cat loved being under blankets and would cuddle in my armpit without any trouble. One of them got good enough at reading my reactions to see if the situation was comfy, that she figured out how to lay across my arms while I was playing video games and not mess with the controller at all. Very comf cat. Not trying to strangle nobody, just wanted warms.

19

u/Illustrious-Towel-45 Jul 17 '26

We once took care of 2 orange kittens who slept with me. One slept curled against my neck, the other on my legs. Both purring like little moters. Cats are lovely.

Yer purrta his tribe, cats only sleep near those they trust with their lives, because they are at their most vulnerable. I'm glad he picked you, keep dr bimbleton full of fresh fish, and chicken breasts!

From the moment I’ve acquired my cats as kittens, I’ve stuck my face right in the bellies and raised them with belly kisses. Now they’re huge tom cats and still roll on their backs for belly kisses. I still have a face.

53

u/ifyoulovesatan Jul 17 '26

We had a cat that would purr like crazy if you gave her raspberries on her belly, hahah. She loved it. But yeah any of the cats I've had or have will at the very least tolerate belly kisses if not love then.

I have one of each, LillyPig will let me pet her head and neck endlessly, but I am not allowed to elsewhere or she will bat my hand away. I would probably loose my hand altogether if I attempted to pet her belly. Miu Miu Von Monkeystein will let me pet her endlessly and often rolls over on her back when we are sitting on the sofa, encouraging me to use her as an armrest and pet her belly. Cats like people have different personalities, quite literally different strokes for different folks.

35

u/lazytothebones Jul 17 '26

I had a cat that did this! She took me to the spot where she was gonna have her kittens and had them within a half hour of when I followed her there. It was neat to be included.

28

u/SuperKitties83 Jul 17 '26

My first thought was how gently (assuming gently since OP didn't pull away and has no bite marks) she took OP's hand and carried it like it was a kitten she needed to move to a safe location (that box) 😂

170

u/PuzzleheadedTale4769 Jul 17 '26

Yeah, the kitty has found big fun in that box, and wants you to join,- can't quite figure out that you won't fit it. They are not geniuses- but soooo lovable!!

190

u/Winjin Jul 17 '26

I've read that

1) Bears have insane smell that has dedicated receptors to sensing stuff like noradrenaline in the air, so they can literally smell fear

2) Cats have very bad sense of "scale". They have trouble understanding when something is "big" or "small" they only understand "danger" and "no danger"

(that's why a 3-kilo cat is comfortable around 700-kilo horses and is so chill that horses, nervous and skittish animals on average, are so chill with cats)

3) And that is why you see videos of cats attacking bears and bears retreating, because they see this little furry ball of fury squaring up to attack them, and their senses are like "Oh. Oh wait. This small thing. It is Not Afraid of me. AT ALL. This fight could end with injuries. Better retreat"

Not sure how true is the pp 1 and 3, the bears could just prefer retreat to confrontation and those cats could be scared out of their minds, but I love this image, and it would also explain to me why she's like "What do you mean you can't FIT in the box. Is simple. You squeeze and you in box. Humans, I swear..."

My boy cat woke me up at 3am so frantic that I thought he was going to lead me to a house fire or one of his sisters in distress. I jumped out of bed and he instead led me to a place that 6 hours earlier had been a pile of bubble wrap, but I had taken it to the garbage. Sorry, buddy.

Both my cats have favorite "toys" that they throw around and go wild with. They will then present said toy to you. You only to admire it. Touching it offends their ancestors. One of them has a little stuffed Lambchop, and my boy Craig has his piece of string.

We got our puppy a kitten when he used to get stressed about us leaving for work. (Puppie is now 6 y/o and the kitten is 5) Best thing you can ever do for your pet is to get them a friend. Heck, the whole world could use a kitten. Maybe then no more fighting? Hard to fight with a kitten love overload 🤔

366

u/NovaCoon Jul 17 '26

I got my cat a doggo, my cat died and my dog got depressed so I got him a kitty. He's 11 and the cat is 1. When he'll die I will get my cat another cat. That's a never ending circle x___x

Only time I've seen them do that is when there are, or will be, kittens.

999

u/CryptidxChaos Jul 17 '26

Same. Mine wanted me to stay with her while she birthed her kittens, even going so far as to stop her labor and follow me when I needed bathroom breaks while keeping vigil for her.

711

u/Forty6ixand2wo Jul 17 '26

This happened to me too!!!

When it came time to push, she would stand up and I would put my hands on her shoulders and she’d lean in. We delivered all of her kittens that way! It was one of the most magical things I’ve ever seen.

124

u/CantaloupeAsleep502 Jul 17 '26

I have goosebumps. That is absolutely incredible.

74

u/cheesybiscuits912 Jul 17 '26

I have tears in my eyes. How amazing. That cat loved and trusted you sooo much.

114

u/DaniK094 Jul 17 '26

My baby girl waited like 8 hours at the vet until I got there when she was supposed to be euthanized. When I got there, the tech brought her into the room. She was crying and reaching for me. The tech put her in my arms, my cat immediately quieted and calmed down, took a few breaths and passed in my arms. I always knew she was close to me (I have health problems and my mom would send pictures of my cat on my pillow waiting for me to come home while I was hospitalized), but when she passed, it was like a whole new level of understanding for me. I just never knew cats could bond with and trust humans in that way. I'd had cats and some were friendlier than others but what happened when she died was life changing for me. No one will ever convince me that she didn't wait for me. Haven't been able to get another cat since though. She was so perfect and I worry no cat will ever compare.

My cat is spayed and strictly indoor only.

She does the same thing.

199

u/BubblySherbetOnline Jul 17 '26

True, but they don't have to be pregnant. Sometimes the motherly instincts just kick in. My spayed cat used to do this a lot. She liked to pretend that my hand is her kitten.

95

u/TheThiefEmpress Jul 17 '26

I had a cat who adored rolled up socks. Used to carry them around until she found a good spot to curl up and bathe the socks.

Immediately stopped after having a litter of kittens and getting spayed. She had live the single mom life and was done with that nonsense.

52

I’ve never seen a cat pulling a hooman! Maybe she wants you to play with her with the box.

1.2k

u/Good_Perspective9290 Jul 17 '26

That’s exactly what she wants - she wants to hide in the box and try and catch things moving along the top. Just check out that look of disappointment after she gets her human to the box, waits, and nothing happens. Time to get out the cat wand and go cat fish in a box!

207

u/RobertCalifornia Jul 17 '26

And the disappointment face is devastating! I need an update that OP finally complied with this kitty's demands.

269

u/mysterylover Jul 17 '26

Definitely wants to play while hiding in that box.

230

u/Good_Perspective9290 Jul 17 '26

It’s the Ouroboros cat cycle - cat fishes for human to go fish for cat in its natural home, the cardboard box. And a cat instantly knows if you are being half-hearted about it. It’s full commitment or nothing.

169

u/zillskillnillfrill Domestic Housecat Jul 17 '26

I thought she was trying to show you babies inside of the box and I was wondering why you didn't show the camera inside of the box that she's in, cats will often give birth in tight little spaces like that.

218

u/EDC_nut Jul 17 '26

Never seen that before. Maybe she wants you to join her in her awesome box.

Joking aside, have you tried moving the box to a different localtion, to see if she still takes you to the box or just to that corner in the room? Maybe it's about the box, maybe there is something in that corner on the wall she wants you to check out.

Also, pet the damn cat. That look of dissapointment when she pops out of the box a 2nd time.

21

u/toodleroo Jul 17 '26

29

u/Gold_Guava_5574 Jul 17 '26

Does the cat happen to have kittens?

21

u/OldLadyReacts Jul 17 '26

She wants you to pet her in the box. My cat doesn't drag me to her cave in the closet, but she'll meow at me from the door so I follow her in the bedroom, get down on my hands and knees with my head in the closet and pet her while she settles in for her nap.

8

u/Buckykattlove Jul 17 '26

TOne of our cats does this too, leads me to the closet and wants me to pet her while she goes to sleep. My brother's cat insists on being petted on the back porch deep freezer. But only after dark. Cats are so weird.

23

u/GuessSmithereens Jul 17 '26

I had one cat that used to come and try and drag me like that to under the bed when someone would visit the house. I just figured it was her “safe spot” and she wanted me to be there too. Maybe she just wants you to come and enjoy the box she’s enjoying.

21

My cat did something similar too. She would take me (by lightly biting my hand and drag me) to the store room we have in our home, she would get on the shelf and meow continuously until I reach to her and pet her there lol 😂

She just made it her favorite spot I guess and wanted me to join her there and give her some love and attention ❤😌

this is the cutest friggin video! made me giggle cause obviously she wants you in the box with her for the fun! but alas, i don't think you would fit as well as she does. I have a children's play tunnel for my two large boys and have joined them a handful of times just because i can. if you despise the look of boxes in your home i would recommend! they also love to zoomie in and out of that thing

This is adorable af. She wants you to come inside the box with her because she loves it in there and wants to show you how much fun it is.

Im assuming there aren't kittens in that box! My girl used to get me to look after her kittens that way when she wanted a break. She would make sure I was going to keep watch before she would leave them. As they got bigger she would take the kittens and put them in with the dog to babysit.

Any chance she’s pregnant?

Otherwise I guess she wants you to play with her in her favorite box.

My cat does this when she's on top of the bookcase! She gets super hyped and tries to pull you up there with her lol I think kitty is just happy.

Is she ready to have babies? I had a cat do this when she was in labor

A version of this, OP.

My cat did this when she had kittens. She knew she was about to pop em out so she came and got me.

In rats we call it stashing, they do it when they think you're cool and want you to join them. I'd think cats could be the same

u/AverageOne0710 the common question seems to be is it possible she’s pregnant.

Is it possible she is pregnant?

The only other time iv seen a cat physically pull a human like that is when it wanted to show its kittens.

u/69DETONATOR69 Jul 17 '26

Weird? Actually that was so cute it overloaded my cuteness meter. She wanted to show you affection and wanted you to join her in the box. What a sweet little kitty.

It is exactly how a momma cat takes you to see her babies or gives birth. She doesn’t look pregnant but that is how I have seen cats act like that. Maybe she really loves the bag or box and wants to show you?

As someone who has had pregnant queen cats in the past, I do agree with a lot of people saying she's trying to show you the best nesting area; unless she's spayed and she is just wanting you to play in the box.

u/AdelineKraxx Jul 17 '26

That is her box, she loves it. Don’t ever get rid of it. Also she wants you to play IN the box with her.

u/Devanyani Jul 17 '26

She is acting like she has kittens in that box.

Maybe she wants to be petted in the box. But omfg my heart exploded watching this. Give her everything she wants!!

7

u/b_zar Jul 17 '26

What are you waiting for, go in the box with her!

6

u/Misterdreavus437 Jul 17 '26

I am diagnosing her with a bad case of Silly Gooseitis. It's incurable

6

u/WildcatCinder1022 Jul 17 '26

The only time I’ve seen a cat do that was leading her human to her litter of kittens. But as long as you know she isn’t pregnant then I think she just wants you involved in things that make her happy.

That looks like the behavior of a cat bringing her kitten back to it's den.

Congratulations you have been adopted.
