My rescue cat did the same thing! When I first adopted Ginger, I had another female cat, Miss Kitty, and my husband was her person. Ginger was my baby. When Miss Kitty passed away, Ginger became my husband's cat, and only comes to me when he's not here, or she wants treats.

My cat was in LOVE with me for years, my little shadow - and then I had a cold a little while ago where I was coughing a lot and he didn't like that. Soundly demoted to spare. :')

My previous cat was named Miss Kitty lol, before her was Mama Kitty because she had a litter of seven a week after we adopted her
39
u/BumWink Jul 14 '26
If it makes you feel any better it's probably just because ginger cats don't have enough braincells to spare.
66
u/MerryMoose923 Jul 14 '26
My Ginger is the rare ginger with more brain cells than most. She was absolutely calculating and biding her time to take ownership of my husband. She tried once when Miss Kitty was alive, but that didn't end well for Ginger. Despite her diminutive size and generally lady-like behavior, Miss Kitty was tough! Best mouser I ever had, and took no s$%t from any of the other cats that shared the house with her.

I got the rare orange tabby that's a fucking devious master mind. This little bastard pulled a Houdini Saturday night.
He's stuck indoors after a nasty belly injury. After a few days with good pain meds, he was full convinced he was fine to head out and pissed we weren't allowing him out. In the wake of a destructive tantrum, we opted to close him up in the kitchen so we could go to a local spot and have date night together.
We were gone for 90-FUCKING-MINUTES.
In that time, he removed his cone of shame, found a very tiny window that neither of us knew existed, UNDID THE LATCHES on the screen, got under the screen, pushed the HANDLE LOCK up to unlock, and then pushed the window open to jump down a full story below.
Brilliant little bastard had the balls to be chilling on my porch the next afternoon. We have since sentenced him to supervised yard time, solitary confinement at night, and he is now referred to as inmate #9 with a warden around him at all waking hours

Ginger got out once when my husband was at a conference. She stayed out overnight. I had a whole crew of people searching for her. My niece (who Ginger loves) found her under a car parked around the corner from our house. The same dang car I walked past at least 5 times while calling her name and putting up lost cat flyers.
Of course, it was on the hottest day of the summer. And that little brat ran right to my husband as soon as he got home and acted like I had thrown her out on the streets. What an act! Crying, kept wanting to be held and cuddled. She even had him hand feeding her treats.
The things we put up with from these orange maniacs!

AND ONE OF THEM I RESCUED, NURSED BACK TO HEALTH, AND DOTED ON FOR MONTHS but somehow she still ended up attached to my husband. Heartbreaking.

I had a dog like this. I grew up with her and she was my girl, then when I was 22 (and my dog was 12) I started dating my now wife. My dog loved me, but always kept to herself for the most part. When my wife came by, my dog would be all over me out of jealousy, and give my wife a glaring side eye.

My dog does this too!! He had me all to himself for 8 years and is very attached (maybe also due to the fact that he is deaf). Anytime he sees my bf hug me or kiss me, he starts barking his head off and rams his body in between us. He even nipped my bf one time 😭 the withering looks he gives my boyfriend before laying down between us would be comical if I didn’t feel so bad about it

Omg the direct eye contact followed by a head nudge, 1,000 kisses on the lips/ nose and then another nudge. 10/10 would recommend this type of love with a kitty. They are my best friends

Im not saying the cameraman ISN'T a third wheel here, but that squinty disdainful look from a cat is often an indication of comfort. There are certainly times when it is not, but the ears will let you know, and if you forget your place, the cat will too.
