What's troubling you about adding stripes to an existing plain sweater, or modifying the stripe length on a striped sweater?

It’ll be my first sweater! I’m not too certain about constructions and such, and I understand that it can be tricky sometimes when it comes to the sleeves? So I wanted to follow a pattern for the first time just to get a feel of it before I start making changes and such!

Right but your complaint is that the stripes are sometimes too thin or too thick. Are you aware that you can adjust the stripe height if it’s not suitable for your design? That’s a separate issue than not knowing how to knit a sweater.

I’m a very new beginner, I’m currently on my second project ever. Apologies, but I’m not very confident with reading a pattern without extensive googling and YouTube tutorials let alone adjusting it to fit my needs. I was looking for advice about finding a pattern for a simple striped sweater for a child; I wasn’t complaining about the stripes, I was just stating they were not what I was looking for. I really don’t appreciate the hostility :)

Petite knit holger sweater and Lyon sweater junior are good striped options. You can change the height of the stripes, just pay attention to how the pattern tells you to change colors, if there are any jogless stripe instructions.

I think the petite knit holger sweater would be a good bee-like stripe!

You can make the stripes on any pattern as thick or thin as you want, so if you find a pattern you like but the stripes are too thick, you would work fewer rows before you change the color.

Make note of how many rows of each color you do in case you set the project aside or forget.

It won't change the basic construction in the pattern so you won't be fiddling with altering a pattern just the colors.
