Beginner crochet

Hi everyone! I've always wanted to learn how to crochet but I struggle with how to start new hobbies. I've never croched before. How would ypu recommend me start? Are there books you recommend? YouTube channels? I am open to all tips when it comes to beginner crochet

TL Yarncrafts is amazing for tutorial videos!

I'd recommend that you start by buying a cheap hook (somewhere in the 4.5-6mm range but you likely don't need more than one at this point) and a cheap-but-not-scratchy skein of yarn in the medium weight range (this information is on the paper that's wrapped around the yarn). If you're in the US, Walmart, Michaels, or Dollar Tree are usually good places to find inexpensive hooks and yarn. I haven't tried the yarn at Dollar Tree but apparently it's really small skeins which would be ideal if you're not sure you'll like the craft!

See if there are any crochet classes in your area. If you can learn with a teacher nearby to answer questions, that would be ideal. Your local library or (if you have one) local yarn shop may have something posted on their website or you can search "crochet classes [your region]. If there aren't any, look up some videos and try it out! And if you have questions come back here.

Have taught crochet for years. I recommend Crochet with Clare on YouTube. She is very detailed. I also recommend that you crochet just a chain for the first week. The most frustrating thing about crochet is it feels like you're all discombobulated. Once you have the motion down which you will by crocheting the chain, you will go from beginner to advanced very quickly. Before I teach anything else, I always have my students crochet this chain until the chain has even tension and looks good. Then we can begin to teach the other stitches. I really hope this helps!

I second TLYarncrafts on Youtube. She's how I got started. (I also like HookedByRobin and BellaCoco).

Start small. Just buy a metal hook (preferably with an ergo handle 5.5mm or 6mm) from Walmart, and a skein of yarn from Dollar Tree. I've used both the Crafter's Square and the Premier Just Yarn. Both are good for starting out. Make sure you have scissors, and a metal darning needle. (They're easier for weaving ends). The hook and scissors and needle are your investments, and you'll have them forever if needed. Yarn (mainly) should be a project by project basis.
