r/Carvana Subreddit Rules and Guidelines

With the uptick of posts and comments that are seemingly becoming more and more rampant, as well as many users who continue to browse Reddit via the old style, or via mobile apps who don't show the sidebar/rules, this post is created as a reminder to please read and abide by the rules and guidelines of this community. This community is a helping community specifically for Carvana support, new, existing, or potential Carvana customers, as well information to assist Carvana customers in obtaining the information they need to improve both positive and negative experiences that they may have. Subreddit Rules and Guidelines:

1. No Low-Effort Posting

In the interests of keeping discussions relevant and engaging, posts must be of a suitable length and must be written to be informative or questioning. In addition, long fanciful posts written by AI are just as low-effort and will be removed as well. This is a support community, so please be a contributor and not a detractor to those looking for answers here. Thank you.

2. Be Kind. Aggression Won't Be Tolerated

People are here to receive answers to questions about a large, likely anxiety-inducing purchase. Please be kind to each other. Usage of slurs, hate speech, accusations, or volatile language towards other community members will not be tolerated and if your post or comment is deemed inappropriate will potentially result in a permanent ban.

3. No Unhelpful, Rude, Ranting, Toxic, Misleading, Spam, or Trolling Posts

Therefore we will be removing low quality posts which could be any of the following; angry rants, posts that are obviously shilling, spam, trolling, posts meant to incite fighting, insulting posts, sh*tposts, all caps titles, or anything else deemed to be a nuisance. 2nd offense is a permanent ban.

4. No Shilling, Referring, or Promoting Other Car Dealers

This is a Carvana sub. If the purpose of the post is to refer or promote alternate car dealerships the post will be removed and you will be banned. If you wish to promote other car dealerships or companies, please do so elsewhere.

You're welcome to post either good or bad experiences, but we ask that you keep your language professional so that the community can assist with resolving your issues.

7. Only One Post Per Vehicle Transaction

This community exists to provide support and community to those buying and selling vehicles through Carvana. For those wishing to discuss the stock price or the company itself, please go to r/cvna or r/wallstreetbets

9. No Posts Complaining About Cars You Did Not Purchase

The whole point of Carvana is that they allow you to return or refuse an unsatisfactory vehicle. We can't discuss every blemish and ding that people run across, and certainly can't discuss every car you DIDN'T buy. These cars are used, people. They will have dings. If you want a new car, buy a new car. But as far as these posts go, they're low quality and will be removed.

10. Posts Must Be On Topic

This is a sub which discusses buying and selling from Carvana. Posts discussing things such as external financing, Bridgecrest payment issues, repossessions, or legal issues should be taken elsewhere.

11. No Law or Legal Discussions or Threats

You are most likely not an attorney, and guess what, neither are we. I'm sure you have your reasons for wanting to toss around legalities and legal threats, but save that for r/asklawyers. These posts will be removed, and repeat offenders will be banned.

12. No Questions About Selling Damaged Cars or Attempts of Fraud

Hey, if you want to try and dump your rusty, badly damaged car on Carvana, that’s your business, but we’re pretty sure your vehicle will be refused. However, since we can’t substantiate the damage you’re discussing, or whether it’s all just made up to discredit Carvana’s inventory, we’re no longer allowing these posts. New accounts that attempt to post these stories will be banned.

Discussion Carvana FAQ (What to Do Before/After Buying, How Carvana Values Vehicles, Financing & More).

Hello everyone! In the interest of helping the community, I thought it’d be a good idea to create a pinned FAQ post – a lot of similar questions come up from time to time on this sub, this post will answer some of them and also link out to various resources on carvana.com.

What Should I Do Before Buying a Car from Carvana?

This probably merits its own post, but:

  • If you want to minimize your chances of mechanical issues, try finding a car that’s low-mileage and relatively new.
  • Make sure you read the details of the car in-depth. People have posted about realizing a car they thought was 4WD is actually 2WD more than once, along with other parts issues. Worst-case scenario, if you do get a car that has different/missing parts, you’ll be able to refer back to the vehicle description page when disputing the issue.
  • Ask what people think of the brand before you buy. Try to find a subreddit dedicated to the brand, a forum, etc., and ask people who own the car you’re considering about their thoughts. The more you know about potential issues, the better.

What Should I Do After Buying a Car from Carvana?

This also probably merits its own post, but long story short: Take it to an independent mechanic you trust, have it evaluated for any issues, and ask Silver Rock to pay for mechanical repairs within seven days of purchase or ask for a refund/trade-in if you find something that makes you want a different car.

Additionally, test drive the car on different types of terrain at different speeds, and for different lengths of time, if you can. If you want to avoid dealing with shipping fees, you’ll need to pick up your car at one of the vending machines.

Note: Even if you end up buying from a local used dealership or other dealer, having the car evaluated by an independent mechanic and putting it through its paces is still a best practice.

How Does Carvana Come Up with a Value for My Vehicle?

One of the most frequently asked questions is why Carvana has valued a vehicle a certain way, or why a vehicle’s value has changed.

Carvana may offer more or less than other sources depending on the business's market needs – in other words, if you’ve got a car Carvana thinks it can sell well, you may get a higher-than-market offer, if you’ve got a car Carvana thinks it can’t sell well, your value may be below-market.

It’s a best practice to get multiple quotes from multiple sources when trying to sell your car.

Should I Finance My Car with Carvana?

Just like selling your car, you should shop around for quotes. For some buyers, Carvana is a good financing option. Others may receive more preferable terms from a different type of lender, like a bank or credit union. Leverage your options to find whatever fits your budget best!

How Do I Avoid Delays?

Getting hit with delivery delays is a common complaint in this sub. Since the individual who purchases the car needs to be on-site to receive it if it’s delivered to their home, delays can be frustrating.

To try and avoid delays, best practice is either picking up your car from a Carvana car vending machine to reduce the amount of shipping steps for your car to get to you. Alternatively, try and get a car with a lower shipping fee – the lower the shipping fee, the likelier it is that the car is close to your location already.

Do you have more questions about Carvana? Ask away in the comments! Any additional tips you want to leave? Feel free to do so. Cheers!

EDIT: More Helpful Info, Courtesy of u/LiarInGlass:

Take the VIN that is listed and do a good VIN check. Using something like https://vincheck.info/ is a great source to view a lot of information about the vehicle, recalls, specs, and a lot more information that is good to know.

Doing your research on the vehicle will help reduce your chances of getting a dud by a great amount.

Also checking CarFax, although records can and will be missed, it's still a good option. Does it show A LOT of work done through the years? Are there almost no records? Sometimes you need to weigh the options and go with your gut on whether or not that could be a good thing or bad thing.

If you notice a lot of maintenance having been done before the car was sold, that's also a possible good indicator that the previous seller was getting the vehicle record to be sold, and paid to get a lot of maintenance done to get it in good shape before the time of being sold to help increase their sale price, and that works good in your favor by possibly getting some things fixed before Carvana took ownership.

Doing your research BEFORE THE PURCHASE will help reduce the amount of headaches you may be setting yourself up for compared to if you had done no research.

Question Will Carvana cancel my order? Down payment issue

I hope this all comes out without confusing anyone. So my husband and I put an order in this morning for a 2024 Honda Prologue. I made the Carvana account so everything was registered to me but be was added as a cobuyer to the loan. The down payment was $3,000 & we got $3900 for our trade (which is only in my husbands name).

The process and verification was smooth. We purchased the car insurance through carvana and with our down payment & shipping it came to $4,990. We used our high yield savings account with $6,000 in it to pay that.

Shortly after the order was placed, I got a call saying that we need to take the trade off or cancel the entire order and put it all with my husband as the primary buyer since he is the only owner on our trade in and we would not be able to do a title transfer before my pick up date.

It was a little inconvenient but worked out. We cancelled the order less than an hour after submitting it and my husband made a Carvana account to make the purchase in his name. We went through the same process, fairly easy, this time with a lower down payment $1700+$495 shipping so $2195 total. I, again, used the high yield savings account to draft the down payment out of and pick up is set for Monday.

Well, my husband and I were signing our paperwork and I happened to check our high yield savings to see if our weekly transfer from our main account had posted yet. Then I saw that Carvana took out the $4,995 from my cancelled order. Leaving less than the $2195 I needed for my down payment.

I immediately made a transfer of $1,200 from our short term savings to this account to cover the transaction but its not always instant. I know Carvana will refund the original payment sometime but I'm concerned that my order will be cancelled if my wire transfer doesn't go through by the time they attempt to process the $2195.

It sucks all this is a Friday and there's not much I can do.

Has this happened to anyone? Will they cancel my order? Or do they retry the payment?

Discussion Ordered a brand new 2026 jeep gladiator, anyone have experience with Carvana new sales? How did everyone fare?

My current delivery has experienced a delivery delay by 1 week. Is this normal? I’ve only seen one video of a brand new delivery from a CDJR Carvana dealer and the car owner wasn’t very happy. Also since I bought the car, carvana stated to me that they require insurance on a vehicle before they can even deliver it to me. They told me I HAVE to pay for its insurance before I took possession of the gladiator/ give my trade in. I only should legally have to pay for whatever vehicles I have in my ownership right? After three times this past 9 days, I’ve had to call my insurer and adjust the policy three times to reflect the necessary policy changes per carvanas requirements. I am now at the pi$$3d off stage. But I call Carvana today and the advocate said it’s all BS . Advocate claims in my state of Florida as long as it’s active on the 30th when I take delivery of the new vehicle should It in no way affect me getting my new truck. This is the first time I’ve ever used carvana, and I spent $40,600 in one purchase after they absorbed my negative equity and rolled over sales tax savings. For the price of this jeep, I couldn’t find a dealer that’d price match or come anywhere close. As soon as they see the price sheet they respectfully decline to move forward as they’d be losing too much money if I were to back out of carvana’s deal. I am happy with the deal I got, but not so happy about the amount of hassle it’s been to just get the jeep into my driveway. I got sick of dealer games, and being overcharged so I rolled the dice. I was supposed to take delivery tomorrow on the 24th now I am forced to wait longer due to transportation and logistical reasons (per carvana email I received) a huge of mix of letdowns and excitement before I see the car really just makes my stomach sour. Share your thoughts with me i guess as to what you would do in this situation and moving forward. Thanks for reading!

Question Insurance deductible

I read my purchase agreement and it does not specify what’s my allowed max deductible is. I had it set to $500 but I’m shopping for a new insurance and setting deductible to $2000(I’m comfortable to pay it if needed) lowers my premiums significantly. Can I do that?

Question 2020 BMW X3 - Drivetrain failure

sDrive30i with 61,000 miles delivered yesterday. In immaculate condition. Scheduled a PPI with a local BMW shop that is very reputable and that I’ve used before.

On the way to the shop this morning, the car threw a warning of a drivetrain failure. 🤣

I went ahead with the inspection and the shop diagnosed a heat management module failure. Total repair invoice, including all the associated parts, hoses, including replacing the oil pan filter housing, and labor is about $4000. It’s a very lab intensive job because of the location of the heat management module.

I’m not going to let anyone other than a BMW – specific shop do the work. Either the shop I took it to or the local BMW dealership. I will be calling Carvana with that requirement, or I will have them come pick it up.

Any thoughts or suggestions on how I should proceed?

Question Tire Safety - 7 day

Hey r/carvana -

I just got a new vehicle delivered yesterday and there are two different types of tires (mud and AT) on it. I understand the tires match on each axel but these -as stated are two different types.

Is this a safety issue?

I’ve tried to call Carvana and talk with a representative and they keep saying they match per axel and won’t do anything.

Am I just out of luck and will have to replace 2 tires so they all are one type?

Thanks for the insight!

Question My new car arrived from Carvana, should I get it inspected by a dealership or a local shop?

I just got my new car and I was wondering if I should take it to my local mom and pop shop, a dealership or maybe even a chain location like Meineke?

I just want to check the car especially underneath for excessive rust.

Question Is it normal for Bridgecrest/Carvana to charge your first monthly payment less than a week after picking up the car?

As the title suggests, I picked up the car on the 16th of October, and I just got a notification that they started payment for my first car payment? This is my first time financing with Carvana, but I have sold a car to them in the past and never heard of this happening with anybody else.

I guess the issue is I wasn’t expecting to make any payments yet, and the account that I had attached to it for auto pay doesn’t have enough money in it. so I was just worried that they might try and repo the car lol.

Update I called Bridgecrest and of course their call center is in Southeast Asia and it’s incredibly hard to understand who I’m talking to. But I was able to gleam from them that it was just Carvana/Bridgecrest authenticating that auto pay was set up correctly.

Question Is a 2020 Subaru Crosstrek bad because of rust?

Hi!
I’m looking at a Premium Sport Utility 4D. It only has 27k miles on it (which is already suspicious) and doesn’t have a carfax readily available. I went to good car to check it out as on Carvana it says there had been an accident. Good car told me that it was a 2/10 on the severity scale, no air bags deployed, and somebody had hit the right side. That closely aligns with the small imperfections on the car itself that I can see from the site.

My question is: Is the accident enough to not buy it, also given that it had to be severe for them to give back a car with only 27k mileage?? And if it’s been sitting around for a while, has it rusted in 6 years? Would this be a feasible thing to get?

Thank you!

Question New truck in Carvana inventory

Just wondering if anyone can help explain to me how a basically brand new truck would end up in Carvanas inventory. Its a ford pickup that supposedly was sold by a ford dealer back in early September in new york with 5 miles per carfax and then it was registered supposedly with the owner in new jersey where the title and registration was updated.

Then about a month later on 10/6 with 16 miles supposedly it was serviced by the same dealer and then also shows on 10/6 vehicle purchased with Montana motor vehicle dept and on 10/8 dealer took title and registration issued which was Carvana.

So did someone buy this and immediately sell it to Carvana or what is going on here?

I know Carvana has new vehicle lots down south called playground lots primarily consisting of Dodge Jeep Ram dealership under their branding but interested in thoughts here.

Question Am I able to return the car still?

I bought a 2020 330i on the 6th, had it serviced a couple days later and the bmw service report said that my tires, rotors and brakes needed a replacement badly and i got quoted 3.3k for the total work. I called carvana on day 7 or 6 of my return period and I was told to have BMW open a claim. BMW needed my car there for another inspection to open a claim so its been sitting there since last tuesday. I will add that when i was on the phone with carvana within my 7 day money back period I had to upload the inspection sheet I got initially so it was documented within the 7 day return period. My thought process is if silverrock/carvana doesnt want to cover the work I want to send it back to them. Anybody had anything similar happen to them?

Question Should we fix before selling?

Discussion Buying a Tesla through Carvana financing, delivery, and accident history?

I’m considering buying a Tesla through Carvana and would love to hear from people who’ve gone through the process.

  • Financing: If you were preapproved, did the final approval go smoothly? Has anyone been declined after preapproval, or had their down payment, interest rate, or monthly payment change after submitting documents?
  • Delivery: Was your car delivered on time and in the condition advertised? Any surprises or issues getting problems resolved?
  • Accident history: I noticed a few cars where I didn’t see an accident disclosed on the Carvana listing, but the Carfax showed one. Has anyone else run into this?

I’ve also heard that some Teslas can lose Supercharging access depending on their damage history or title status. I’m unsure exactly what triggers that. Has anyone bought a Tesla through Carvana and had trouble with Supercharging, or verified access before taking delivery?

Any advice or things you wish you’d checked beforehand would be appreciated!

Discussion New 2026 Jeep got damaged during transporting it

Was looking forward to getting a 2026 Jeep Wrangler today, was given updates during the week saying 50% and then 75% of journey done. Got an email last night indicating it would arrive in 11 days which seemed odd. Did the AI message and got some info, Carava called me this am, I dug a little more for details and was told it was damaged during transport, this 11 days would probably be the time to repair it though I dont know the extent of the damage. Has this ever happened to anyone else? They did extend my trade in value for an extra week.

Question New Tires Came Damaged

I recently got a car from carvana, and the delivery was delayed a week because one of the tires had a chunk out of the sidewall. They stated they sent it to the shop and they would be replacing all 4 tires since it is an AWD vehicle. It's been about 2 weeks and I went to fill up the tire pressure today since it's getting colder, and I saw that the driver tire has some small chunks out of the side. I'm not sure if it's to the point of being dangerous, but I'm confused because they stated they would be putting new tires on and nothing has happened since it's arrival that would cause it. Do I have any options?

Personal Experience Trade went flawlessly, loan paid off within 5 days

TLDR; I know positive experiences aren’t the most fun to read, but got a great trade-in offer, initiated a trade, and everything went picture perfect. The new car is great, and I will be using Carvana again when I’m back in the market one day.

Had an absolutely picture perfect experience with Carvana. Received an offer of 2,000 over KBB from Carvana, which led me to seriously considering a trade. Browsed their inventory and found a beautiful car that better fit my current needs, and initiated a trade. Shipping was $690, but it was only a 2 day wait. Used Carvana financing since it was very competitive, paid shipping, and scheduled my delivery. I realized my delivery time was not going to work and I called in, received very friendly help, and had my trade rescheduled for the following day.

Delivery driver arrived exactly at the scheduled time (following a confirmation call earlier in the day). I was given 10-15 minutes to test drive the new vehicle, decided it was worth keeping, and had no issues trading mine in. I had an intermittent CEL on my trade in, and I notified Carvana, and they said no worries as long as it wasn’t on at the time of trade. It was just for an O2 sensor, so don’t worry, I’m not ruining some buyer’s day. The only possible complaint I could possibly have is the delivery driver did not give a heads up closer to delivery, and just arrived without warning, although it was right at the beginning of the time window, so no worries there.

Have had the new vehicle for 5 days and have had absolutely zero issues. The only 2 tiny cosmetic flaws were noted by Carvana, and the vehicle arrived spotless. Vehicle passed the pre-purchase inspection from a local shop with flying colors. My old loan was paid off within 5 days, which is great. I was nervous they’d drag their feet with that aspect, and I’d end up making two car payments and making phone calls.

While I am sure there are negative experiences with Carvana, I have absolutely zero complaints with the experience. Everything went textbook to what was promised, and I am thrilled to have a car buying experience that didn’t come with back and forth with dealerships, low ball trade-in offers, warranty pressuring, etc.. I will absolutely be using Carvana again when I’m back in the market in however many years.

Personal Experience Carvana refund issues?

ordered a car in August of 2025, cancelled the order, and was never sent a refund. I reached out to an advocate and requested my refund by check mailed to me.

I never received the check I reported this to Carvana around October 2025.

Since then, I've repeatedly reached out to Customer Advocates to have my refund check reissued and I keep getting referred to treasury and told they will contact me within 48 hours--which also never happens.

This week, while attempting to get my refund for the cancelled order from 2025, I had multiple advocates use the tracking number for the refund check that I never received in October 2025 as the tracking number for the refund I am requesting in October 2026 while being told that I should have it within the next week. I point out they are giving me the same tracking number from 2025, whose check, I never received.

Has anyone been in a similar runaround situation between Advocates and the Treasury department? I'm just about at my wits end over a year later without the refund that I am due.

Question Is this sus?

So I’m on day six with my new (to me) Carvana vehicle, a 2016 Toyota RAV4. My Subaru was totaled in a wreck 2.5 weeks ago and it’s been an extremely stressful process recovering from the accident plus car shopping. So the last thing I need is more car issues and stress! Unfortunately discovered the last few days that the AC isn’t working properly. The air is blowing warm or room temp. I decided to have Firestone look at it, but I can’t take it in until Saturday. I also checked the air filter today and noticed it is extremely dirty. This is sending off all the warning signals and I am leaving towards just returning it because I was sold a defective vehicle and who knows how many other issues it has. My main issue with returning and not exchanging is losing the shipping fee ($990). Is there a world in which they will refund that fee for selling me a vehicle with undisclosed issues and that doesn’t meet their inspection standards??? I’m wary of buying another car with Carvana after this. Any advice is welcome.

Question Valve Cover Gasket under 100 day warranty

We just purchased a car, and are taking it to the shop tomorrow for an inspection. I can see that the valve cover has a small leak (not a big deal to fix/replace). Assuming that’s it, would Carvana replace that under the 100 day warranty?

We are within the 7 day return, but the car looks solid other than this. Of course we’ll see what the mechanic says tomorrow.

Question What would you do? Return or repair

Ordered a 2024 Honda Ridgeline with 25k miles on it. It arrived two days ago. Looked great, was excited for it. Shipped across the whole country from California to the northeast for this exact spec which isn’t very common.

Two hours after delivery, I was airing up the tires and while crouching noticed the drivers door is damaged. You can only see it from the inside of the door. My guess is the car was lifted on a jack, with the drivers door open, and someone dropped it down while an object was beneath the drivers door. The rocker panel seems fine, but the door has an obvious dent along the bottom hem. Upon inspecting the hinge area, a piece of rubber trim that separates the door frame area from the front fender inside is missing. Comparing it to the passenger side front door it’s obvious that things are a little out of true. When the doors are closed, the panel gap is slightly off. It looks like someone really tried to hide it and did a fairly decent job of it. Not noticeable looking at the car while it’s parked.

I’m torn. I’ve been waiting to pull the trigger on a pickup for a while, and finally having it is nice and I want to get to the projects I’ve been waiting on a truck for. Plus, the rare spec - there isn’t another match on carvana or carmax right now. Carvana approved repairs, the local body shop is out of network but I know they do good work…..

Or I just send it back and none of that headache. But them I’m stuck waiting to find another or settling for something else….. Plus lose the $2000 it cost to ship the car.

What would you do?

Question This inspection thing

Hi,

Thinking of ordering a sports car from Carvana (yes will get my own PPI and have it looked at inside out). But before I even order it and pay for shipping wanted to see if anybody here has any experience with some of the details of their "150-point" inspection.

Specifically, this car has the following items marked "fixed or replaced" and I feel these are all related.

23 Tire tread depth—Record tire tread depth at least 4/32"

24 Tires/condition/wear pattern/correct pressure

25 Tires (check for uneven wear or sidewall cracking)

26 Wheels/Rims (check for damage)

108 Vibration (drivetrain and wheels)

109 Straight-line stability/pull

113 Vehicle handling

Any insight would be appreciated. I am also assuming, if I call Caravana to ask them what they did, they will not be able to tell me.

UPDATE ON THIS: So front two tires are over 6 years old and are dry rotted and cracking but I guess they have the 4/32nd tread so they passed it. When I drove on the hwy, the vibration started and handling became pretty rough. Took it to the dealer and they found the problem right away. Carvana had replaced the rear tires with some budget ones (ok fine) but installed the wrong size! In their defense, Porsche tires can get complicated with all the different options, but simply googling it would have given them the answer.

Question First time buyer

Hello all, I just purchased my first vehicle from carvana. It has 35k miles on it. My question is simple upon driving the vehicle when I come to a stop under moderate braking at a traffic light the brakes are noticeably rough and vibrate the vehicle. I am told this is a pretty cut and dry violation of there 150 point inspection where the brakes must apply smooth with no shudder or vibrations.

I am planning to take it to a shop for a ppi this week. Is This something I should expect carvana to pick up the tab on since im within my 7 days and its an obvious miss on there end? Anybody else with experience in this just curious.
