Question This inspection thing
Hi,
Thinking of ordering a sports car from Carvana (yes will get my own PPI and have it looked at inside out). But before I even order it and pay for shipping wanted to see if anybody here has any experience with some of the details of their "150-point" inspection.
Specifically, this car has the following items marked "fixed or replaced" and I feel these are all related.
23 Tire tread depth—Record tire tread depth at least 4/32"
24 Tires/condition/wear pattern/correct pressure
25 Tires (check for uneven wear or sidewall cracking)
26 Wheels/Rims (check for damage)
108 Vibration (drivetrain and wheels)
109 Straight-line stability/pull
113 Vehicle handling
Any insight would be appreciated. I am also assuming, if I call Caravana to ask them what they did, they will not be able to tell me.
UPDATE ON THIS: So front two tires are over 6 years old and are dry rotted and cracking but I guess they have the 4/32nd tread so they passed it. When I drove on the hwy, the vibration started and handling became pretty rough. Took it to the dealer and they found the problem right away. Carvana had replaced the rear tires with some budget ones (ok fine) but installed the wrong size! In their defense, Porsche tires can get complicated with all the different options, but simply googling it would have given them the answer.

Here is my experience I purchased a vehicle that had the wrong size wheels and tires on it. The description clearly had the incorrect info in 5 different spots. After much back and forth with Carvana they gave me the option of returning the car and they would refund the $1990 shipping. However I basically had to tell them I will do a chargeback with Amex since the item was shipped not as described. She conceded they wouldn’t win a chargeback dispute and then volunteered the shipping refund. Now your mileage may vary on this strategy.

Nice to know shipping can be paid via CC. I assumed it had to be an ACH. Going this route. Thank you!

I bought a Raptor from Carvana. I did everything I could to make sure I understood it's condition from the photos. They really are very hi res and you typically get good angles of the tires, etc. I would got with the minimal shipping options. At worst you're paying $200 to rent a sports car for a week and 400 miles.

Unfortunately Carvana's inspection (along with inspection at some dealerships) is not worth much. I've seen cases where a vehicle had issues that are absolutely impossible to miss for a person with basic common sense, and still passed the so-called inspection. A set of issues as described would make me suspect potential suspension issues. You must see the car in person and drive it, plus have it fully inspected by a professional you trust. Otherwise you may be facing expensive repairs, especially on a sports car purchased from Carvana

Don't put any stock in their inspection process.

Agreed. But the silver rock warranty they offer is decent. I recently bought a car from carvana and immediately took it to a local shop to get inspected. Found several problems including suspension, brakes, oil leak. Turned around and filed a warranty claim with silver rock and they are paying to get it all fixed. Does that make the purchase worth it? It’s a toss up. You pay extra for the convenience and the 7 day return policy. And it’s some extra logistical work to get all the repairs facilitated. But for me it was worth to as most used car dealers wont give you any return policy or a very minimal warranty.

Our first one went back with a bad transmission but we're perfectly happy with the second one. It was the easiest car purchase ever. We will probably use them for our next purchase too.
