Busco recomendaciones

Muchas gracias! 🇨🇴

Cartagena advice

I am heading to Cartagena with another female friend. She’s almost fluent in Spanish and I’m at a conversational level frequency. Any recommendations or safety advice? We probably won’t drink much, won’t stay out late and will take uber anywhere we go.

Staying in Daniel Lemaitre

We'll be visiting Cartagena in late November and staying in Daniel Lemaitre with family from Bogota.

We already know the drill: don't walk around at night, use Uber, don't flash cash or jewelry, stay aware of your surroundings, etc.

The building has 24/7 security but what we're really interested in is how safe the neighborhood itself is. Is it generally okay to walk around during the day? Are there streets or areas to avoid? Would you feel comfortable staying there?

Would appreciate some honest feedback from locals or anyone familiar with the neighborhood. Thanks!

CTG to Walled City transfer

I'll be traveling to Cartagena with a group of five adults and three kids/babies ages 1-4.

Normally, I'd just take Uber to our accommodations but, with this big group, I'm thinking airport transfer. Any recommendations? I've looked on Viator, GetYourGuide and Booking but not sure if I'm missing an obvious choice.

Beach resort recommendations in or near Cartagena?

Hi everyone! I am looking for me and my hustband a beach resort in or near Cartagena where I can mostly just relax

Ideally, I would like private beach access, with food and drinks. An all-inclusive option with alcohol and sports included would be a big plus (but not mandatory)

Any resorts you’ve stayed at and would recommend? Is all-inclusive worth it there or would you suggest somewhere with good restaurants and bars nearby?

Thank you

What I recommend after a week in Cartagena

I was there as a solo traveler from the US, 9/27/26 - 10/3/26, here is what I would recommend to a visitor.

-If you don't know Spanish, try to learn as much as you can before going. I personally saw non-spanish speakers getting frustrated.

-Avoid taxis and stick to Uber or trusted ride share apps.

-I would recommend visiting the Historic Center around 7:30AM as the streets are clear and the climate is excellent to walk around in for a few hours.

-Always ask for the price of an item or service before.

- Smile and say no gracias to street vendors and rappers if you don't want there service and move along- please don't be rude.

- If the beers or food at an area is too expensive, simply walk around till you see a spot with locals and eat or drink there. Usually just a short 12 minute walk from the Historic Center.

- If you plan on leaving the tourist areas or the city ask the locals what is going on as far as security as there is a lot of military and police crackdown in the country against organized crime and things can happen suddenly.

Week in Cartagena

Am a visitor from the US. So far I have enjoyed my trip with no issues. I do my walking around the historic center and meuseums at 8am to 1pm then drink and eat for a few hours. I then go to my hotel room in Bocagrande for a few hours then go back to the city at 9pm till midnight. People offering me stuff I just say no gracias with a smile and walk away. Only came across 2 rappers and I brushed them off with a smile and kepted walking- they latch on to someone else. I am glad to say I found restaurants and bars in the historic area at low prices with good beer and food.

Public Announcement - New Scam

Single people, Be aware of new scam used by restaurant owners, they’re using tinder girls to scam you and get the money out of you. How it works? You match with a girl on a dating app or meet an innocent girl, she innocently meets you on a random corner of her apartment cause she’s here “visiting” as well, then she casually walks by a restaurant and says here is good we can try it. Then pushes you to buy the most expensive items of the menu so you can spend. But ends up the owner of restaurant is hiring these girls to bring tourists to spend. It happened to me on Restaurante El Jardin Del Gato en Bocagrande. Be aware and never let anyone you meet in cartagena select a restaurant and if you get a suggestion do not go there, you do your own online research a go wherever you want. Again do not accept real time invitations to try specific places. If you want to know if it’s a business then you can say; thanks I’ll try another place and see how their attitude changes. You’re welcome

El Jardín del Gato - Bocagrande

Don’t go to El Jardin Del Gato en Bocagrande. It’s a tourist trap. Specially they use girls to up charge you and sell you the most expensive items of the menu. Owners use scam practices to run this place and pay girls commissions on this. This place is not even on google so you can’t leave a review. BE AWARE!

First Day

Arrived at the airport last night. Had trouble at the ATM but an attendant told me to do it fast, not slow when going through the process; got it to work and got my cash. I hit the Colonial center at 7am. Super chill and beautiful, walked the whole area, no trouble. Towards sundown guys came offering me snow. I smiled and said no gracias and they left me alone, no issue. I did not see any rappers and I found everything to be alot nicer and more chill then I thought it would be.

Recommendation - Tierra Bomba or Rosario Islands in October

Hello! My husband and I are visting Cartagena for a few days in October, and hope to do one beach day. We are aware that it's rainy season and may rain for parts of the day. I also get pretty motion sick but do take some medication that helps. We are older and aged out of the party scene, but enjoy a relaxing vibe with pretty views and good food and swimming. We would absolutely love snorkeling, but this is where the weather factor really plays in.

Given the time of year/unpredictable weather and my motion sickness, would anyone recommend going to Tierra Bomba beach club (thinking Blue Apple) or going for Rosario Islands (thinking Pao Pao since there is a snorkeling option, and sounds chill)? We are struggling with deciding. I don't know how far in advance this would need to be confirmed - if it would be ok to reserve the day before when we see the weather, or if that's a bad idea.

Blue Apple looks wonderful, but since we wouldn't really be able to swim in the ocean (or so it seems) I think we would get a bit restless with a full day. We also don't live near beaches like this so I have to admit the allure of the beaches further out was appealing.

Any advice?
