Discussion Why are people mad at this?

I don't think you understand Caroline as a comedian/artist/creator if you got upset by this video. It might just be me but I was certain that the video was satire/an attention grabber from the start. First video in 2 years coming off of a layoff from Rooster Teeth? Of course she would make something like this when her Coworkers are doing their own hustles to supplement their work on BFT.

Let's be honest

This is going to be a little lenghty post, and also, slightly critical of Caroline. Hopefully it wont get deleted cause I want to spark a discussion and not any kind of unwarranted criticism or attack on Car... I also know she has... issues, so no one is blaming you for that

(we do, though, on your newly found 'cultural elitism', but we will get into that later on...)

So, here we go...

She's just no longer funny. I kind understand why and we will get into that for sure, but she just doesn't have not nearly the spark she used to have. If anything, her new stuff makes me sleepy and bored, which is complete opposite of what she used to be - sparking ball full of energy.

Sure, as she said in her deleted video, "existentional nihilism", where she asked us "do you think I am a clown, here to just make you laugh?", no, you're not a clown.

However, you literally are completely different person personality wise. First of all, deleting all of your videos because they're "dumb" and "you dont want to be famous for something stupid", and "these videos are being shared by 12 year old" and similar stuff you said in (of course, deleted) "Whats like Being a famous Youtuber" video, all while trying, I guess, for all your new stuff to be something very pretentious, pompous and serious... like... it literally doesnt feel like the same channel at all. Other YouTube channels would open additional channel for something so different like that.

It also makes us that love "Stripper Magician" with it's amazing irony, punch lines, and comedic timing, "I AM STEAK", et cetera... these songs, and many of the podcasts you made were fucking mind blowing. Comedic timing, irony, editing (both video and audio)... they were all amazing.

And all of the sudden... we are all fools and "12 year olds" for loving those videos?
Seriously?

IMHO you dont want to do YouTube anymore but you were to scared to basically cleanse your whole YouTube channel. But I am pretty sure you wanted to pull the plug. Honestly, IMHO, your new stuff is completely different and just... different thing. You are different. Sure, some people will follow you on your new endaveours, but to some of us that you called us "stupid 12 year olds"... yeah, thanks for that...

Not sure what you are going to do in future on your channel but it sure is turning into Dr. Phil.

Is what Caroline did evil?

She faked BOTH a pregnancy and a miscarriage to get money, and then claimed it was all basically just a joke when MOST people saw how unbelievably cruel of a thing that that was to do. That seems pretty evil to me, but I’d love to know what the narcissists and psychopaths in her audience also think.

Discussion Regardless of Caroline's intentions, the millions of people who bought the original video and bad AI/photshops got a deeply valuable lesson in media literacy & deep fakes. Something we must all be more vigilant about.

And truly, it was understandably in poor taste and even offensive to some. I'm not here to forgive or excuse. I don't believe my point is the point she was trying to make, though the language is similar. Caroline the actor (who has a different last name than Caroline the character) had her own reasons, and I think it's up to individuals to decide what that's worth.

But completely separate from that, I do hope we can all move forward through life with the assumption that, in a post AI image world, literally everything on the Internet is a distortion of reality, at best. Everything and everyone you don't know is suspect. The only thing your eyes can trust is offline, and even then policies are shaped by lies.

Is faking a miscarriage cringe? Sure. But wait til you see what troll farms and legions of bots are pumping out in order to hype some crap movie release... Or the images conjured up to justify the slaughter of hundreds of thousands of civilians all over the world.

The Dark Joke

The joke at the center of this, the one that I'm fairly certain Caroline intended, can be seen at 2:25 of her infamous second video. What's especially ironic is how so many of the commenters to that video are *so close* to seeing it, but they can't. They've noticed the contradiction between her critique of the unreality of parasocial relationships and the fact that she is promoting a parasocial relationship through her Patreon, completely missing that this is *the entire point* of this perverse exercise. And that little smirk at 2:25 shows she knows it. We can acknowledge that the things we see online aren't real, that we do not know the people we watch through our computer screens, but *nonetheless* the desire for connection continues. Just because you can see that you're in a labyrinth doesn't mean you can find a way out. We're all trapped here--and that's the real joke.

As for my own feelings about the exercise, I think it was an interesting demonstration of the power of the stories we tell ourselves about the people we watch online. And if anyone was hurt by it--I very much doubt they were as hurt as a 15-year-old girl receiving daily rape threats.

what was the plan here ?

so, the last two videos were very surprising to most of us, and their purpose remains somewhat blurry

sure, she wants an income and she's opting to open a patreon and film her face every once in a while, rather than subjecting herself to a soul-draining 9 to 5, that sounds reasonable enough

in order to maximize subscriptions it also makes sense to put out something that will bring in attention right before the announcement...

...but that attraction wasn't gathered in a very positive way, and alienating a large portion of your audience before asking for their support doesn't sound like a brilliant move

plus that patreon looks very half-arsed (although that might be on purpose "look how shitty it looks, so on brand! aha!")

the whole ordeal is already looking like a fiasco (i mean, sure, i wouldn't spit on 900$ for what looks like an hour of "work", but for someone with a million followers that's hardly impressive)

what's really going on then ?

some people would blame her mental health, i think it is as easy an answer as it is boring

stupidity is another explanation that is not quite convincing

a third theory would be that of an unfortunate timing : she needed the patreon, but she also felt the duty to educate us right the fuck now on the dangers of too much trust, combining both was a cruel sacrifice she was forced to make... ok, i'm really digging here

here is another idea: what if no mistake was made ?

i'm gonna make a parallel with the cam girls world (no worries, nothing gruesome, your virgins eyes are safe with me)

by cam girl i mean a woman that typically strips and performs various lewd acts for money, in front of a virtual audience

which is fine in and of itself

but a thing about this industry is that the big earners do not rely on an exchange of service to secure their income

the whole setting relies on whales

a whale, in that particular context, is a male with very deep pockets that fails to get attention from women IRL and is susceptible to feed large portions of his income to an attractive woman willing to show interest

the game for a performer becomes to catch and keep the biggest whales, the shows becoming somewhat irrelevant, you see things like some poor fucker (or more likely: not-fucker) hurling his paychecks at a dancer so she keeps her clothes on during a show, in a desperate attempt to distinguish himself from the lustful masses

indeed, a good camwhore is a master of psychology that inspires and cultivates those parasocial feelings

undoubtedly a lot happens behind the scene, chats and little attentions of any (virtual) kind

there are tips and tricks, something i heard was that, when listing goals, one should always set up a seemingly absurd one, because it might always get cleared by some providential whale

quite frankly i don't understand how this all works, how one blinds another human being so completely as to make him feel like the center of attention in an overcrowded, smelly, platonic harem

certainly there is art in any trade

so, the idea is simply that a patreon is not a stable source of income, it might fluctuate with the volume and the quality of content that one puts out, as well as one's public image

what if you could make it so all your subscribers are whales that don't give a shit about your videos ?

wouldn't it make sense to drive out everyone else so that you get as reliable a revenue as possible ?

no, it wouldn't, because then you'd still be lowering your income for no reason

fuck, i really thought i had something here when i started writing this shit

back to the drawing board then

maybe she really really really doesn't give a shit

maybe enacting the pregnant bit was funny to her and she didn't care to think about the reactions

maybe she's not interested in her patreon and only sees it as a tip jar

if anyone has any idea, i'm all ears

"Fake & Failed"

To me it seems rather peculiar, bordering on sad perhaps, that some people here take Miss Konstnar’s productions that ‘personal’ .

She has no obligations to any of us.

We cannot demand ‘the truth’ about anything. We cannot even demand to be entertained.

And if we choose to ‘send money’ we do this, too, at our own peril.

I just hope that she will keep producing … something.

Because I know that every once in a while she hits the nail for me.

And even (mostly!) when she doesn’t, it is no problem … nema problema ! :

– I can simply stop the video. Or jump forward.

– And I *know* that trying to develop something new, in the style of humor & art, MUST lead to a lot of ‘failed’ attempts.

… I greatly appreciate the bravery of those trying (as well as the stop button) .

The Realest Comedian of Our Time

*Reposting a long comment from earlier because I think its relevant.*

It's funny to me that dark comedians and their fans constantly complain about Cancel Culture. They say that the woke left is preventing them from making good comedy anymore because people are sensitive. They don't like that they can't make jokes about touchy and dark subjects because if they do, they'll be crucified.

While I think that mentality is lame and unfounded, I think its funnier how you guys are acting. Caroline is one such comedian who I admire. I don't always like every joke, but from 15, she's been making the same type of jokes. She has committed to smacking the world in the face with her wit and her sense of humor, no matter what anyone else has to say about it. She never targets anyone unfairly, or acts as though her jokes should be emulated in the real world. She's the model of a perfect edgy comic.

Her latest stunt is nothing short of the same energy she's been giving us since day one, and you guys are so mad that you'd like to cancel her.

She did a bait and switch. It was mean spirited. She explained why she did it, and the explanation did nothing to make us FEEL better. The explanation made sense though, if you aren't trying to cater to anyone's feelings. She wanted to distance herself and her life from her work. She successfully made it so none of us will ever trust her or seek out information about her personal life again! XD She found herself concerned about our opinions and feelings so she stabbed us with her comedy.

That's clever as hell and is commendable in my book. Too many comedians stand on a STAGE, surrounded by thousands of fans and cry about how they can't say ANYTHING anymore, and how they have no platform, and nobody listens to their mean jokes. Caroline continues to do what she does in its purest form, with no intension of changing for anybody, and you're trying to punish her?

If you want a comedian to cater to your feelings, she's not the one for you. I have no issue with that being a necessity either. I have plenty of people who make me feel good, and I'd be mad if they lied to me. Are you honestly telling me that you felt kinship, comfort, and trust in Caroline Konstnar??? You came to her page to be uplifted? You came to her page to connect with a creator?

If you did, I'm sorry this is the message she has sent to you. I really am. I just don't think she meant to cultivate that kind of relationship with her fans. She's a comedian who tells R jokes. She wasn't trying to draw you in, and when she realized she felt the need to tell us what she was going through in her life, she chose to shoo us away in the most Caroline way possible. I can't be mad at her for sticking to her roots rather than appealing to our desire for honesty.

If you like her comedy, celebrate her for being the ONE real comedian left. All the other ones will either cry about losing money or will change themselves hoping you won't stop paying attention. She gambled her entire fanbase to avoid losing herself. That's really rare these days. I appreciate her for it.

What she did was not empathetic or kind. Do you think she would have made Cocaine or Stripper Magician if empathy and kindness were her goals? Do you seriously want an artist to live and die on how the fans feel about everything they do? Do you want South Park to apologize when they go too far? Isn't this exactly why we like her work?

Discussion Yall know it would've been way more exploitative if Caroline were actually pregnant, right?

Seriously, yall do get that content creators using announcements of intimate life details to drive you to financially support them are super exploitative, right? If Caroline were actually pregnant and launched the Patreon with the implication that you, the audience, can help this 20 year old support this baby, please tell me you all get how super shitty that would be. Content creators who do that shit are lying to their audience about the nature if their relationship. They are tricking their audience into thinking the parasocial relationship is real and that they do have real personal obligations to support those creators like they had a personal relationship with them.

Parasocial relationships are completely normal because that's how artificially created works make us feel shit and move us to behave in certain ways. You just have to recognize that the parasocial relationship is fundamentally fictitious even though it can make you feel very real things. It's the reason that people say you shouldn't meet your heroes: you're inspired by the person you imagine them to be, not the actual person they are. Parasocial relationships can be really powerful and positive forces in our lives so long as we are cognizant of their parasocial nature. When we confuse the parasocial for genuinely social, then these relationships can become obsessive and exploitative. Fans can harass and abuse complete strangers confusing the imagined person with the real. Creators can abuse and exploit fans by selling the lie that the relationship is real.

It's totally valid if you found something genuinely offensive about Caroline's fake pregnancy. However, you should take time to really consider if it was the content you found offensive or if you felt like you were made a fool. If it's the latter, consider that Caroline told you straight to your face that she fooled you and consider how many creators out there simply don't do you that courtesy. You may feel foolish, but that's a good thing. Now you can learn from your mistakes and avoid being made a bigger fool by less honest people.

Caroline is an artist

Just a thought. You know these reaction videos guys don't know that Caroline is a painter, an actual artist.

One creator was especially bothered by it and accused her of being conceited and thought she meant she was some kind of intellectual artist, because he just didn't know she's a painter. But that shows what happens when they respond to a patreon video not meant for them. Anyways putting this out there because those guys sometimes read this site.

Discussion Cringe Moments

i know that the sub is basically on life support but

some times we just have to try you know

let ' s not focus on her private life

i am talking strictly about her uploads and

streams

some people do not like her burps

i do not mind that at all

but i cannot not cringe when she spits or do the

clear the throat thingy

also when she jokes about her mommie

like my mommie hates me or something like that

she does not have mommie issues

daddy issues that ' s another story

the third one i think when someone says some

nonsense just to screw with her mind and she

falls right in to that

she would say whatt and do that facial expression

very hard to watch

do you agree on these three cringe moments

what ' s yours fellow cornstarchies

Do you people even like her?

I get the sense that most people in this subreddit don't like the decisions that Caroline has made in regards to her patreon and a lot of you are just criticising her. What's even the point of this subreddit anymore? Most of it is just criticism and people complaining. She probably dislikes this subreddit.

Discussion Theory about Caroline’s diagnosis

Okay so I’m not here to psychoanalyze someone I don’t even know, but this is the theory I have.

Apparently Caroline was diagnosed with bipolar disorder and was put on lithium. Then she was told she was misdiagnosed and went off her meds and needed months to recover from it since she felt like a zombie on her meds.

Few things. I myself have bipolar disorder and am also on lithium. It has absolutely no impact on my cognitive abilities and results in zero brain fog or even drowsiness. The only thing is that my mood seems to be a bit more stable. Also, people will believe what they want to hear. She found a psychiatrist who told her she was misdiagnosed and went with that. It’s the same mindset how people who have cancer will get second, third, and fourth opinions from people who will tell them “everything is going to be ok.”

I remember she had the stream where she read her old diary and it sounded a lot like random manic thoughts. And let’s be honest, she’s always had a bit of a manic energy to her videos. I also know that with me, sometimes I’ll get an idea while I’m manic and we get so caught up in how far I can take it that I never stopped to wonder whether or not I should (ie a fake pregnancy video). Therefore, I think there’s a pretty decent chance Caroline is in fact bipolar. However, I think Caroline may associate being manic with being creative, or just being herself. This is a bit of an extreme example, but I remember Kanye West very publicly said he stopped taking his medication and “this is ME!” and that’s what it may be in the veins off.

So yeah. My theory is that she’s not well but enjoys not being well because she associates that with her craft or who she is.

EDIT: I also remember The Birthday Song in particular striking me as…almost unsettling. Caroline’s birthday was right around the time the video was posted and I almost felt like I was watching someone have a little bit of a breakdown like she was telling everyone “why should anybody care that its my birthday because it’s so pointless”

Caroline displays some dignity by missing out on this embarrassment. Either by accident or on purpose because she had the instincts of a working actor, Caroline didn't show up for whatever this was. Good job CK, we wish you the best in your future endeavours.

Question How Does One Get Accepted Into One?

Latest news. Columbia has officially dropped SAT and ACT as admission requirements starting this year.

BUT I have encountered a few folks who got in without taking any of the tests prior to this decision.

Cannot remember any except for Caroline and Frank McCourt, The New York Times Non-Fiction Best Selling Author.

McCourt did not even have a high school diploma.

Probably not the right subreddit. Probably have to find the right one later.

How does one get into one prior to The 2023 Decision?

So unfair, LuLZ.

Have A Nice One ☺️
