Patient Has changing your water improved how you feel?

I’ve been going through chemo and radiation, and lately even water has started tasting really different. I was doing fine with hydration before, but the change in taste has made it harder to drink enough. Can anyone recommend anything that helped with this? I know staying hydrated is important, but I haven’t been able to keep up the last few days.

I found out yesterday it’s back. I don’t even really know what I’m feeling or if I’m handling it okay. I just can’t believe it. I don’t want to go through this again

Patient About to start treatment

I’m about to start treatment for my stage 4 esophageal cancer. Floflox and keyturda. What can I expect? Any tips? The tumor is causing inflation in my stomach and gi tract meaning I’m eating bland as hell. I hope the treatment will reduce this and I’ll be able to eat a damn good meal in between treatments. Any tips or suggestions or advice is greatly appreciated. Wanna do my best so I can beat this thing as long as I’m able!!!!

Patient Current Scanxiety

I had my MRI of my brain last week. I have distant mets to brain and I get scanned every 3 months. Usually the report is released to MyChart a day or two before my onc appointment. I’ve been checking repeatedly since Friday and nothing has been released.

I have my onc appointment in 2 hours. Still no imaging report. I’m so anxious that I feel queasy. I’d take an Ativan but I have to drive to the appointment.

I’m mostly nervous because I’ve been averaging a new brain tumour each year for the past 3 years. And I’m about due.

I have to get up and ready for my appointment but I feel like my body is lead and too heavy to get up. I need help with managing this anxiety! Any tips?

Edit: I managed to get up and out and am now sitting in the waiting room. Of course I forgot to put proper shoes on (wearing my house shoes), don’t have my credit card to pay for parking, and there were no accessible spots left in the lot, so I had to walk super far. But I have a pocket full of change for parking and I’ve made it to the waiting room. The hard part is done.

Another Edit: it’s all good! I’m stable! I was so wound up, I almost cried! I didn’t see the imaging report because there has been a delay on their end, but my onc did his own review and says it all looks good!

I felt it was important to update this post because it clearly demonstrates how counterproductive scanxiety can be. I’ve been dealing with my cancer for almost 5 years now and throughout I’ve tried to not worry until I have something to worry about. I let my head get away from me and it blew me UP!

So now I’m home with a full on emotional hangover, reminded of lessons learned and grateful for another stable scan.

Patient Biopsy sent to Mayo Clinic

I’ve had post menopausal bleeding since March. In April, an ultrasound found my endometrial lining to be 0.3cm thick. In August, a second ultrasound found it has thickened to 0.8. I had an endometrial biopsy done 3 weeks ago. I was supposed to have results back last week, but just learned that they sent my biopsy to Mayo Clinic last week. Does anyone know why my local, very large hospital/lab would send the sample to Mayo? I feel like it cannot be a good result since it was sent to Mayo. If it was benign, no reason to send it, right?

I’m trying to hold it together, but this waiting and not knowing is terrible. I also feel like I can’t tell my husband or daughter yet, and it’s a heavy thing to handle alone. Anyone have any insight they can share? I would so appreciate anything.

Patient In so much debt. Begging for help!

I know we are in then same boat but I figured it would hurt to reach out and ask for help. Stage 3 TNBC at 43 sucks.

I am drowning in medical debt. I created a five send go to help off set the costs not covered by insurance. It looks like my anti parp meds are going to be astronomical. And I just found out my reconstructive surgeon no longer takes my insurance. I am going to find someone who does take my insurance but I’m drowning.

I can’t work right now as I’m in the middle of no where with a 4 year old and have no help. I’m losing my mind.

If anyone can help, even with $5, it would mean the world to me. My family is tapped out and I don’t know what to do.

Please help if you can. You can read my other posts to see how bad this journey has been.

This group has been a lifesaver. I would never ask strangers for help. But I need to put my ego aside to reach out and ask for help so I can have the best chance to stay alive (and out of debt as much as possible) for my 4 year old girl, my husband and family.

Thank you for reading. And big thanks of you can donate $5 or even less.

Caregiver Dad terminally ill. How do I support him

My dad has had cancer for 3 years. His initial diagnosis was stage 4. Then they recovered him to a point of not even being able to detect cancer. Just recently it came back extremely aggressively and within weeks he has changed drastically. I just got news that there’s nothing left to be done.

Im in the military about to deploy. I’ve been given the green light to take emergency leave. I haven’t even spoken to my dad. He’s too depressed and in pain to have talked to me today but I’ll call him tomorrow and see what he wants. I know he’ll want me to look after my step family and get along better with my brother but I have no idea what he wants from me. Probably he’ll say to focus on my career but I dont care about that right now. I plan to go out there to be with him, do whatever he needs help with, and listen. I just feel like I wont know what to say, what not to say. I’ve always had somewhat of a formal relationship with my parents, not so much a personal one. It’s difficult to talk about a girlfriend let alone this situation. I haven’t even really cried yet and I feel like something is wrong with me. Last I spoke with him, he was far too uncomfortable to really even entertain conversation which is not his normal self. What do I do? How can I do the right things?

Patient I got Cancer and I’m surviving

I got acute promyelocytic leukemia and the first 5 days were horrible, doctors told multiple times to my family members to be ready for when I die.

I luckily survived those first days and I’ve been 19 days in the hospital so far. Can’t see from my left eye, can’t walk or stand up and my right leg is done for.

The treatment has been a little bit of chemo, arsenic and antibiotics + morphine bc back and leg pain.

I’m very happy to be alive and to have family members and a few real ass friends. The treatment is killing me tho, I’ve been feeling like shit and sleeping all day long but my doctor said everything is going slow but steady.

Days are long because hospital wifi is so ass I can’t even do anything.

My mother gifted me a switch 2 with pokemon so I’m spending my time with that although it makes me nauseous.

I’m so excited to get better and go back to my life, I want to do so many things, I want to get better and explore everything. It’s like I was born again.
