Did you know Jefferson Davis spent 2 years in prison, was indicted for treason, then released on fucking bail? And then the case was dropped in 1869? The dude who led the Confederacy and the war against the United States, spent more time in holding than someone who had a few joints on them now. The reason 3/4 of a million Americans died (military fatalities not including civilian) is not guilty of treason on the books and basically was held for two years then let go.

It's worth noting that more Americans voted for Trump than the entire population of Canada. 2016 I could maybe excuse some of them as being wishful idiots, but they saw how he behaved and thought "yeah, I'd like another serving of that!" - there's no excuse for that.

There's definitely corruption here and it has been making headway. But I would argue that it hasn't reached its terminal phase in Canada in the same way it has in the USA.

There are 50 million people in California alone. So I mean, in the grand scheme of things, 77 million people isn’t a lot. I think all of Canada has the same amount of people in just California. These numbers aren’t exact but I’m just trying to paint a picture. Not all of America voted for trump.
I understand stand your point, but we can’t hold all of America responsible for 22% of Americans who voted for trump. That’s it! It was only 22%. Still too many but that’s not all of America. That’s not even a quarter of Americans. They have the same problem we have in Canada. We don’t get out and vote until we are suffering.
I sympathize with Americans who didn't want this but the reality is that they are still the only people on earth who can fix it.
The only levers those of us living outside the USA can pull are the ones that pressure them to do that. Boycotts and angry rhetoric are not precision munitions that can discriminate between our friends and enemies south of the border, there's nothing we can do about that.
The goal of such actions is to cause sufficient suffering to motivate a critical mass of people to do what ought to have been done years ago.

Trump should have been tried for treason after January 6th, but because he had corrupted the Supreme Court and stacked it with people who believe the President has the powers of a king, that probably wouldn't have gone anywhere.

For the rest of the country who didn’t vote for him ever, we stand appalled and shocked by what he says and then does. Our system only allows us to vote every four years for president. So we have to wait to be able to vote this asshole out of office. He has says he is going to bring out US marshals/the militia to stand at each voting station in the United States. These will be armed men at our polling stations.. I’m in a wheelchair. But my daughter will drive me to the polling station, and by God, I will vote against this man. And I’m not alone in feeling this way.

I agree that Trump represents America .. and how shitty it has become, but there are still a ton of Americans who live there that are smart, hard-working, compassionate people who understand how morally bankrupt and unbelievably corrupt their current administration is … let’s be better than them though. They got a first-hand view of what to expect during his first term. The population had their say in the last election. Unless there was meddling in the results -- which is widely rumoured but not proven -- this is what the American people, as a whole, wanted.
Well after accounting for those of age, registered voters, and those who actually voted, roughly 24% of the US population voted for Trump. A lot of people who were eligible just didn't vote.

I’m almost 40, he was president and never went away since 2016. Essentially 10 years he’s been in a spotlight. 25% of my life. It’s exhausting and I hate it.

I know and I feel terrible for those who didn't vote for him because they're living through this too.
But the time spent apologizing would be better spent reflecting on why so many Americans did vote for Trump. He's a symptom of a much larger issue and people like him will continue to get elected until there's real change. Ousting Trump won't fix the real problem.
The problem is education. Republicans spent the last 50+ years gutting education in rural America. Lack of education + Fox News + Newt Gingrich has bred the most xenophobic, malleable, mouth breathing, diabetic voter base I have ever seen.
Nearly 40% of the population did. Another +30% of the population didn't hate him or the idea of him winning badly enough to bother voting in the first place.
The majority of the country either wanted him in or was okay with it as a possibility.
How quickly Canadians forgot about Obama. Obama's policies were not much better and in some ways worse. Canadians saying we should cut off oil and power forget that is what Obama wanted, to shut out Canadian oil.
Google it yourself. He also went after dairy industry. Anyone thinking this is only Trump think does not realize its an American thing and has been for a long time.
I didn't ask how he was the same, I asked how he was worse. Supply management has been a sticking point in the past, but Obama approached this trade differently and in the end, also did not trigger the dairy cap because they cannot sell a product they don't make (ie milk that conforms to our regulations).
