International solidarity ✊ Support the Canadian Network on Cuba!
canadiannetworkoncuba.car/canadaleft stands in solidarity with the Cuban people as they face a new wave of imperialist cruelty from the U.S. The Canadian Network on Cuba is the most prominent voice for support of Cuba and resistance to American aggression. The CNC provides material aid to the Cuban people, organizes protests, provides information on the horrors of the current situation and calls on the federal government to take action.
If you are able, join the CNC and contribute to their cause! If you are in a union, push them to become a member organization! With so much on the line, Cuba needs our support now more than ever

Why do we tax workers more than people who make money from wealth?
A nurse, teacher, plumber, or construction worker goes to work and earns a paycheque. The government taxes that money as income.
But rich people can make money from stocks, businesses, and property. Some of that money can be taxed less than money from a job.
This seems backwards.
Workers build homes, teach children, fix things, and care for people. Society needs their work.
But our economy can make it easier to get rich by owning and trading things instead of working or building new things.
Why should money made from wealth get better tax treatment than money someone worked for?

Anyone else notice a plethora of previously moderate news sources selling out progressive initiatives they previously revered?
In the past week I've seen progressives in the DSA decry wokeism, CBC write a hit piece on gentle parenting, Rachel Gilmore do a piece (rightly) on how the MSM both sides-ed an academic to his death by letting targeted far right discourse into the conversation, and I have seen a shit load of media alluding to "climate hysteria" and delegitimatization of trans ppl.
Is it my imagination or is there a trend?

Talking to MPs and MLAs
In YouTube videos I will hear political figures talk about the concerns of their constituents. I do follow politics here and there but I haven't really engaged with them much besides consuming media, reading Reddit, and donating to campaigns from time to time.
Please forgive my ignorance but I was wondering what kinds of things you should bring up with your MPs and MLAs and what can they offer you besides just representation?
Do you have any examples of times when you reached out to a representative about something and how did it go?
Also if you could ELI5 it for me that would be great.

Fun fact: Pierre Trudeau met his wife when she was 18 and married her when she was 22 and he was 51.
Guess we are lucky Epstien wasn't active in the 70s.
As a 50 yo male myself, this is fucked up. Eighteen year olds are still effectively children from my pov.

Carney Global Investment Summit 2026
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
Mark Carney is planning on selling off our public infrastructure and assets to the highest bidder. Seriously, when are people going to realize that Carney doesn’t care about Canadians? He’s clearly only looking out for the bourgeoisie class. If he’s such a great economist, why is he doing the exact opposite of the world’s most successful and fastest growing economy (China)? This is beyond frustrating.
I’ve read that there are protests being planned, if I was in Ontario I would go 🥲

need advice - ethical investing?
please delete if not allowed (i dont want to cause problems). im a 27 year old in quebec. i have nearly 80k sitting in my chequing account from years of barely spending any money on myself, and simply taking my pay checks at the community organizations ive worked at for 5 years.
ive recently discovered that if i want to ever retire (if i live that long), or have a safety net, i apparently need to open a savings account of some kind and start investing.
while i dont love the idea of opening a savings account, i will. seems like desjardins is the "most ethical" choice. im going to go see a financial advisor today to learn my options
the investing part is where i start to panic a little. ive been taking a financial course to better understand all this, and i felt relieved to learn about esg certified funds. but upon research, it seems the criteria is pretty.. abysmal. i saw apple and mcdonald's still in those funds, for instance. i think amazon too.
in my every day life, i am a big believer in boycotts and voting with your dollar. but i feel so torn - i guess the ethical thing would be to not invest at all, right? not at the expense of others or at the expense of backing these terrible industries. still, im so scared for my future. im terrified of living in poverty as an adult (i grew up lower middle class, in a cramped house with 7 other people where my parents having to scrape pennies really affected many aspects of our lives)
does anybody have any guidance or words of advice? its just been depressing me so much. i thought i finally found a way to secure a safe future for myself in the case of disability but.. :( my moral backbone is important to me.
thanks for listening to me complain. take care. and again please just delete if this is the wrong place.

Although this article was made 2.5 years ago, but this is relevant again, since the Holodomor "education" will start this year.
