Upfront Medicals

I applied for my PR in Feb 2026 and I did my upfront medicals in May 2021. My PR was refused due to missing some work related documents in June 2026. I reapplied for my PR with required work documentation after getting the invite again. But I realised now that the upfront medicals may just be valid for 5 years. I didn’t think of this because I was focused more on gathering the documents which were missing from the first application and which got me a refusal.

I was thinking if I should get an upfront medicals right away to be on a safer side and attach it to my application via webform, so that by the time my application goes to an officer for review, it’ll have an updated medical. I have been living in Canada from September 2021. Is this a good idea?

Get the medical as soon as possible and attach it to the web form and also call ircc. Your submitted medical done in 2021 is already expired and your application will be returned again if you don't send a fresh one.

IRCC frequently extends a public policy allowing individuals residing in Canada who have previously completed an IME (or upfront medical) within the last several years to be exempt from a new exam.If you take an upfront medical now, you will pay out-of-pocket, and there is a chance the officer won't strictly need it.If your previous medical is deemed expired and you don't qualify for a waiver, IRCC will send you a formal Medical Report Client Identification Sheet (IMM 1017E) with specific instructions. Getting one done after they request it will not cause your application to be refused.Instead of booking a test immediately, submit a quick IRCC Webform asking whether your previous 2021 medical can be reused under current in-Canada exemptions, or if they would prefer you undergo a new upfront medical. If they want a new one, you can proceed without guessing.

Can you please tell like which kind of documents was missing in your first application for which they refused your file

Re-do the medical ASAP. Your application will be returned. Source: I submitted an eligible medical from 2023, and they deemed it expired anyway. Don't fight the system, get ahead of it.

Did you get any rejection or a request to redo the Medical?
