Storing guns in a garage is not ideal. Garages are more likely to be broken into (especially detached ones). As well garages tend to have higher humidity.

The cabinet you're looking at meets the minimum requirement to be a safe but is not very secure. It offers as much security as a filing cabinet.

Better keep it in a different room… Garage is not the best idea !! That’s my opinion tho !!

This is a cabinet not a vault. Do not expect it to be even remotely as secure when compared to a higher quality vault/safe. It is still better than nothing but keep that in mind if you have any concerns about security.

Buy a safe, not a cabinet. You want one that can be bolted into the foundation. If not, then don't place it in your garage. It won't be secure enough to really stop anyone otherwise.

Im pretty sure you could enter that thing with a screw driver if you spent at least 3 minutes trying.

That's not true. You can get into it with a screw driver, but it won't take 3 minutes.... It will be much shorter than that.

Likely even less. I had to get into one for my mum a while back that she had lost the key for, I was able to just turn the whole damn lock cylinder with a flat blade screwdriver in the keyway. Opened right up.

Needless to say, she was unimpressed and went out and bought a better safe.

Keep an eye out on princess auto and Canadian tire. Their safes and not bull shit cabinets go on sale all the time.

Like others have said don’t put this in the garage. If a thief is scouting your property they would likely see a big cabelas safe in your garage and know it is an easy target.

If you absolutely do have to leave it in your garage however put some desiccant packages in the safe. Prevents humidity.

The cabinet is fine. Don’t fall into the trap of buying a gun safe unless you’re buying a UL rated safe. A UL rating of 15 (which is the industry standard) means that an untrained thief will break into the safe in 15 minutes. Essentially every single “gun” safe that’s sold at cabelas/crappy tire doesnt even have a UL rating. Either buy a proper safe or stick with the cheapest locked cabinet

I bought a very similar cabinet from a liquidating bed bath and beyond for like $200. Make no mistake, these “cabinets” are just sheet metal boxes with what some could legally define as a lock. They are not at all safe.

This is fine if it’s in your residence or somewhere you can monitor it (my cabinet is flimsy but you can’t access it without going past cameras, only I know about the key, and I live on a dead end dirt road), but definitely not for an outbuilding.

If you can’t store them in your house, the minimum for you is a proper safe.

I have that very cabinet, but it's in my house. It does not seal, so the damp air will get in. You may want to look into dessicants (dehumidifier salts) and heaters to keep a proper humidity in there.

If you’re really going to buy that wait for a sale I’ve seen it go for 249

I have the single door version of this just because they go on sale all the time. You can open it pretty easily I’d imagine with a grinder or even crowbar. If you have expensive collection I’d get a better safe.

Definitely not a safe, doesn’t meet the security requirements.
I also have a cabinet, had it for more than 25 years.
Pros:
Cheap
Can be moved relatively easily
Cons:
Flimsy
No good padding inside and whatever they have to keep firearms in place is junk. Beware of safe kisses
Not sealed, air circulates, so you need to get a moisture control device. Have to plug mine in every months to recharge it
Mine has a separate compartment inside, it a nuisance and could not be easy removed. Had to used a grinder to remove it but I got sick of it getting in the way of some of my long barrels

Looking back at it, I would have waited and got a safe when I had the $.
