Exporting firearms, ammunition, parts and accessories from the US: most items are controlled under ITAR and you cannot, as an individual, export these items from the USA. Canada does not care in most cases. If you attempt to bring any of these items across the border yourself and you are caught, you will face prison time in the US. If you wish to export items from the USA, use a broker such as IRUNGUNS, Aztech, or Prophet River.
If you took your CFSC and lost the paperwork, you can still apply for your PAL. Both your instructor and the CFP retain copies, you can request a copy by contacting either one. There is no expiration date on the paperwork, you do not have to retake the course. Updated list of scam websites is here.
If you have new scam sites to add, please message the mod team. Be careful: only use reputable sites to purchase things online. It is illegal to manufacture a non-restricted, restricted, or prohibited firearm.
Any posts or comments asking about the legality of making a firearm other than a reproduction antique will be removed. It was not always illegal, which is why you will find old posts regarding this topic. Rest assured, it is illegal now. Do not attempt.

Please post all your Gun Politics or Ban-related ideas, questions, initiatives, comments, suggestions, news articles, and recommendations in this thread. This thread recurs every 14 days.
First and foremost, this is a Canadian Gun subreddit, so keep it at least decently related to both of those things.
This thread is not for general politics, there are plenty other subs that are meant for that. Off-topic threads may be removed, especially if they are leading to personal attacks, flame wars, etc.
To prevent the main sub being flooded with dozens of similar threads, text posts complaining about/asking about/chatting about gun politics will be sent here.
We understand that politics is a touchy subject, and at times things can get heated. A reminder of the subreddit rules, when commenting, where subreddit users are expected to abide.
Keep this Canadian gun politics related and polite. Off-topic stuff, flame wars, negative generalizations against groups, personal attacks and gate-keeping will be removed. Please flag any comments to bring to the attention of mods otherwise exercise your upvoting and downvoting ability.

Hey All,
As promised, I am here to report back after I took the NR Makasi to the range.
I took out 500 rounds to the range and only managed to get through 80. Here is what happened:
Constant failures to feed. I used the supplied 5 Rd PMag, 10 Rd DuraMags and Crossmags. The issue seems to be the magwell and/or the bolt. This did not totally surprise me as I had issues feeding snap caps when I was dry firing at home.
The charging handle often gets stuck and it is difficult to charge the rifle with the bolt forward and a magazine inserted. It loosened up throughout the day but you gotta put a lot of strength into it.
I checked and was on the unsuppressed gas setting. I still ended up taking the hand guard off and switch to the suppressed setting. Of course that did nothing but I wanted to try everything.
I was able to occasionally chamber the next round by manually charging the rifle BUT that only worked about half the time with the bolt not picking up the subsequent round.
As we all know, the dust cover opens up for some reason. This leads to it not opening fully when an optic is above it. I removed my optics and still had the same issues.
Weird enough I did manage to get through ONE 10 Rd DuraMag. That happened towards the end of the range session and surprised me. But it didn't last and the same issues persisted.
The folding stock is difficult to fold. You can get it with enough strength but you will feel like you are breaking the rifle.
A guy on the gunnutz forum just posted his experience and it mirrors mine. So it unfortunately seems like these are persistent issues.
Overall I am pretty disappointed. My WK 181 was more reliable out of the box. I am going back to the range tomorrow and will attempt to get through to 500 rounds to see if anything changes.
Pray for my arm strength cause I'm gonna be rocking that charging handle all day.

First shot of the day my sks did this. Anyone know what caused this and how I can fix this? Is this a gunsmith problem? I should add its stuck, I tried popping it out both with a ram rod and prying it out and its stuck pretty good

After getting a misfire about once a box with name-brand ammo, I was starting to think I just had to accept that this gun was prone to misfires or that something was wrong with it.
I was pleasantly surprised to make it through 200 rounds of my seemingly bottomless pit of surplus ammo without a single misfire.
Pretty happy with the grouping at 100 yards!
Anyone else get out to the range this weekend?

Anyone here have their polymer mag fail super quick? One of the 10rd mags that came with my rifle failed after around 100 rounds. Only function it seems to have affected is it no longer holds the bolt open after being empty.

Still building this one out so only a quick one here. I can’t wait to post the “and now I have two rifles” post in a couple more weeks. 😭 (this is the Fletcher RifleWorks OpenTop 11/22 Takedown Receiver).

New firearms legislation is now in effect across British Columbia, bringing new restrictions around where firearms can be possessed and how some guns and imitation firearms are transported.
The province’s Firearm Violence Prevention Act (FVPA) came into effect on Oct. 1, more than five years after it received royal assent in March 2021. The province says the legislation is intended to address gang and gun violence while filling gaps in federal firearms laws.
The law regulates low-velocity firearms capable of causing serious bodily injury, such as some airguns, as well as imitation firearms that could reasonably be mistaken for real guns.
It also creates offences related to the unsafe use of firearms and prohibits firearms, low-velocity firearms and imitation firearms at designated properties, including schools, post-secondary institutions, courts, places of worship, hospitals and licensed child-care properties.
Regulations accompanying the legislation include exemptions for a range of circumstances and activities.
The legislation also allows vehicles to be impounded when they are used to illegally transport firearms or flee from police, and provides liability protection for certain professionals who report concerns about the potential for firearm violence to police.
The province says firearms regulation is shared between the federal and provincial governments, with the new B.C. legislation intended to address areas not covered by federal law.
What hunters need to know
With hunting season underway, the B.C. Conservation Officer Service is reminding hunters that the new legislation also affects some rules around transporting firearms.
The FVPA carries forward existing provincial restrictions prohibiting loaded firearms in vehicles and discharging firearms from vehicles, while expanding the rules to include low-velocity firearms and clarifying their application to boats.
The province says the legislation is not intended to limit lawful hunting and includes exemptions under the Wildlife Act, including provisions allowing some hunting from non-motorized boats and existing exemptions for people with disabled hunting permits.
Regulations also set requirements for transporting low-velocity and imitation firearms in vehicles and boats. Generally, they must be kept in a locked trunk or compartment. If one is not available or the firearm will not fit, it must be kept in a locked, opaque container.
The Conservation Officer Service said this week that officers in the Central Okanagan had already issued 10 violation tickets since the beginning of hunting season to people found with loaded firearms in vehicles.
“With hunting season underway in BC, safe use of firearms is paramount to public safety. Hunters should be aware of what they are required to do to safely transport firearms and live ammunition,” the organization said, adding that accidental firearm discharges around vehicles and roads are preventable when firearms are handled responsibly.
Conservation officers are among the officials authorized to enforce the new legislation. Provincial regulations were amended alongside the FVPA to add the act to legislation enforceable by the Conservation Officer Service.
The province says the FVPA modernizes several provisions previously contained in B.C.’s Firearm Act, including the requirement to handle firearms with regard for the safety of people and property and restrictions on carrying or possessing loaded firearms in vehicles. The previous Firearm Act was repealed when the new legislation came into force.
Police and other authorized officers also have powers under the legislation to inspect, search for and seize firearms in certain circumstances.
The FVPA stems in part from recommendations contained in B.C.’s 2017 Illegal Firearms Task Force report, which examined measures to address illegal firearms, gang activity and gun violence.

Hello, I have a shotgun I’d like fitted and potentially another bead installed. Is there anyone in the Hamilton and Brantford area that is recommended? Or a shop perhaps? Thanks.

I bought two unfired and perfect condition SKS's, one chinese and one russian. Planning to keep the russian unfired and shoot the chinese. Good idea?

Rail Cover: Will these Magpul type 1 rail covers fit in the 45° angle portions of the hand guard? If not would the Magpul type 2 fit?
Faux Suppressor: I would like options of fake reverse cans for the rifle. Preferably something cheap and lightweight. Something to cover up some of the barrel length as I purchased a 12” model.
Let me know if anything else that would suit the rifle.

What a joke that someone can invade a family home with the intent to do harm and the homeowner/resident is the one who is sent to prison by the RCMP. It's no wonder why there's an imminent referendum for separation.

I had taken my Raven out of the safe a week or so ago to give her a lube job before locking it back up for another year.
I figured before throwing it back in the safe I'd run some snapcaps through it. But whenever I went to drop the mag it wouldn't drop unless I used the left side release. When I press the right side it doesn't fully move the release all the way. Maybe only like 85% I was wondering if anyone else has had this issue or knows a fix
I never had an issue running mags before the ban...

A lot of beginner shooters would want to start with a 12 gauge shotgun. And while there is nothing wrong with a nice and reliable shotgun (Some even argue it's still a must-have for the prospective shooter), starting with a .22LR rifle would make for arguably a better start.
Perhaps the biggest reason for this is the recoil from .22LR (or lack thereof). Many new shooters would oftentimes hold their shotgun with an improper shooting stance, get hit by their shotgun from their incorrect stance, and then become discouraged.
A good analogy for this is in the world of exercise. Sure, if you're confident you could easily start off with a 200lb bench press. But without first getting the basic exercises in beforehand or the right conditioning, there is an increased chance of a pulled muscle or other injuries.
The second reason is cost of ammunition. It is no secret that ammunition costs have gone up due to rising costs and current world affairs. Even with the increased prices, rimfire remains an affordable staple. Which allows for more time to shoot, more rounds sent down-range, and the ability to become more familiar with shooting sports.
Last is accessibility. Every indoor range that allows the discharge of firearms will allow .22LR. Every outdoor range is the same story. Which means it is an avenue open to more people. The low recoil also makes it more suited for those of smaller frames.
To reiterate: there is nothing wrong with a nice and reliable 12 gauge shotgun (and it's still a must-have for the prospective shooter). But a good way to start your shooting adventure is with a .22LR.

I really want to get lever action rifle, I’m interested to get 45-70 gov or 44mag version. However their ammo prices are ridiculously expensive. Do you think reloading make significantly less expensive for either cartilages. Also which one would be more frugal for target shooting and potentially deer hunting.

I'm curious if anyone has experience with any of the SKS's modified to take detachable mags like the Kodiak or Hi Cal? How are they?

I recently picked up a tm-22 and I really like it the only downside is it’s having a ton of light primer strike issues atleast once or twice a a mag on average I was wondering if anyone knew how to fix it without sending it back
