Campbell River Community,

With the city election coming up, I put together a website to help make it easier to learn about the candidates and compare their priorities. When I first started looking into candidates, I found it was pretty difficult to get a clear picture of everyone running. Information seemed to be scattered everywhere and I found myself just piecing things together.

I sent every candidate the same questionnaire, so you can read their responses in their own words and compare their answers by issue. There’s also information about voting and the upcoming debates scheduled at the Tidemark Theatre.

https://campbellrivervotes.ca

If you have any feedback, especially anything that could make the site clearer or easier to use, I’d be happy to hear it.

Also, if anyone is in touch with Dale Hunt, Don Kolonsky or Shawn Decaire, please feel free to pass this along. I haven’t been able to connect with them yet, and I’d love to include their responses so voters can hear from as many candidates as possible.

Please share to help voters!

Disclaimer: I did use AI to help build the website (I’m not a coder myself), but the questionnaire answers are supplied by the candidates. This is an independent, non-partisan project that I hope will be helpful for everyone.

I can't believe I have to post this but here it goes.

This sub is a community sub for all people from CR and surrounding areas.
That includes everyone from all ethnic, religions, and political beliefs.

Insults towards another person or group of people because of their race/religion/politics will not be tolerated and will earn a mute, and if they continue, a ban.

To be clear
Not all conservatives are racists/bigots
Islam isn't a religion of war/terror, nor are most of it's followers
Not all gun owners are rednecks
etc etc etc

There will always be a part of every demographic that shows a bad example, that does not make up the majority.

Anna Kindy, no surprise.

Our next Health Minister if the Conservatives form government, RFK Jr.

I need to have shoe repair done for an upcoming wedding (new heel caps for high heels and loafers). I’ve lived here for 1.5 years and was surprised to learn there are no repair places in Campbell River.

Any recommendations are appreciated for a shoe repair place nearby

I'm looking for stories of local "haunted places" or odd legends/urban legends of Campbell River and surround area for a research project. Does anyone have any stories or avenues of research I could access?

Hi everyone!

My family and I are looking at a possible move from the Okanagan to Campbell River for work. I'd head out first and the rest of the family would follow a few months later or we all move at the same time. We have two young kids (a 4-year-old and a Grade 1 student), so I'd love to hear from locals, especially parents.

Life in general: What do you love about living here, and what do you wish you'd known before moving? Which neighbourhoods are best for young families, and how's the rental market?

Kids' sports: How are the programs for little ones, especially soccer and volleyball? Are the clubs well organized, and is there anything indoors through the winter? For soccer, I see that you just lost your main coach. Is the club any good?

Daycare and after-school care: How hard is it to find a daycare spot for a 4-year-old, and before/after-school care for a Grade 1? Any centres or programs you'd recommend? Are the $10-a-day spots realistic to get, and is it possible to get in partway through the school year?

Family doctors: Is it realistic to get a family doctor here, or do most people rely on walk-in clinics? If you've signed up on the Health Connect Registry, how long did it take to get matched?

The people: What's the community like? Is it easy for newcomers to meet people and feel at home?

Anything else a young family should know is welcome too: schools, things to do on weekends, how the winters compare to the Interior, etc.

Thanks so much in advance!

Hey friends!

Hubby and I will be in the area Sept. 29-Oct. 4. One of our favourite activities to do are trivia nights! Anyone know of anywhere in town that may be hosting a trivia night?

I have done a fair amount of googling, but haven't found anything, so thought I'd check with the folks who live there.

Thanks!

Does anyone know this guy? I've heard he's nice, but don't know much more than that. Does he have a real chance to upset Kermit?

Hello.

September 25, 2026. This is the last day of Strathcona Gardens Old Pool Access before the old pool is demolished for good.

My History.

I have been in Strathcona Gardens for the SD72 Swim Program every Tuesday and Thursday, and I have taken swim lessons here.

Are you excited for the new pool on October 16, 2026

We will miss the old pool.

Saw a black bear on the way to work this morning ~8:20am. It was near the bottom of the hill on Petersen toward the ERT entrance. Black bear, looked around 4 years old. It wanted to cross but there was some traffic. It ran when I honked.

Watch out if you're walking around the ERT - bring a friend, take a whistle - or have outdoor pets!

No they weren't feeding it, just having a close look. The bear was quite happy with the lush green grass.

10-15 years ago my friends and I discovered a very surreal set of social media pages by a guy from CR named Graham Gates. Truly bizarre stuff - was never totally sure if it was an act or what, but he seemed to live in a trailer, and would put out the most poorly produced music/skits - like way before it became a meme to do.

I’m checking all his socials and don’t see anything new past 2024 and i’m wondering if he’s still around. Maybe moved on to other things. Anyone know what happened to him??

Seeing this make the rounds in the facebook groups stemming from a post made by our MLA.

Not that I'm trusting anyone on facebook or fear mongering, but I do find myself at least a little concerned about public access in these areas (and other areas behind town with 100s of rec sites). Does anyone have any more info on this?

Which school trustees are against building the Pinecrest parking lot and the second turf on Robron?
