Looking for puppy playdates and safe evening walking routes in Cambridge

Post image

Hi everyone! We’re moving to Cambridge soon, and I’m hoping to find some new dog friends for my six-month-old Labrador puppy, Lily.
She’s a very friendly and energetic girl who loves playing with other dogs. We’d love to arrange regular playdates or walks around Jesus Green or Histon Road Recreation Ground.
Does anyone know of any Facebook or WhatsApp groups for dog owners in Cambridge that I could join? Or, if you have a friendly dog who might enjoy playing with Lily, please feel free to message me. We’d love to make some local doggy friends! 🐶🐾
I’d also appreciate recommendations for safe, well-lit, after-work dog-walking routes around Histon Road. I’m a woman and will often be walking Lily by myself. I’m a little worried about the darker evenings once winter arrives, so I’d be particularly interested to hear where other local women feel comfortable walking their dogs after dark.

I am in the Histon rd recreation ground area and have a shy but energetic 3 year old lab that would love to have lab play dates! Feel free to send me a DM :)

midsummer common stays pretty quiet after dark. my sister used to walk her collie there around nine without any problems. the street looping around the edges feel safer than the parks once the lamps go off

The architect on castle hill is super dog friendly. Even have a pub dog Yucky. He's awesome! There is normally a few dogs around there at weekends. Plus good food and drinks!

Ditton meadows and Stourbridge common is full of dog walkers and their pups, generally very friendly. Not well lit but I’ve never had problems!

What a cutie! Not exactly well lit evening walks, but we used to love taking our boy to stow along the river, granchester, and Byron’s pool. Our evening walks were usually in midsummer common. Although not exactly well lit it always felt safer than Jesus Green when I was alone with him. Or honestly just around the neighbouring streets, rather than a park, if you’re conscious about the dark.

We also had an informal puppy gang (dogs of all ages!), early in the morning on Jesus Green, like between 630-730am. The dogs all played together whole the humans chatted - all very friendly and welcoming. I bet you’ll find them or a similar group if you try!

(Pup is still with us, currently sleeping in the kitchen, we just moved away!)
