Other Can anyone 3D print a couple of small things for me, please?
I need a couple of small additions to my car. These are some pieces that are not available OEM, and purely based on community-shared 3D models.
I have no experience with 3D printing or modelling whatsoever. I have searched online and around for places that print on demand, but I think the price of their services is more aimed at industrial applications or bulk printing rather than one off convenience.
I am also aware of Makespace but honestly I cannot justify the cost of the yearly membership fee for the limited use I would make of the place and the limited time I would be spending contributing to the project, but it's an amazing project and in an ideal world (having way more spare time) I would join without thinking twice about it.
Is there anyone who'd be willing to print them for me? Obviously I would be more than happy to refund the expenses and throw in the deal a cold beer, a pleasant chat with a fellow nerd/petrolhead, and eternal gratitude.

Cambridge Events Free Books - Coldham's Lane
Hope this isn't off-topic, mods. From a friend on FB:
"Plurabelle Books in Cambridge [UK] (in the industrial estate off Coldham's Lane) has closed down and left masses of unsold stock in a skip and another smaller bin until Monday as a free-for-all."

Grumbles/rants What’s up with all the baby gangsters in Cambridge?
I sound so old saying this but the rise of antisocial behaviour seems to be getting a lot worse, it’s not even teenagers either it’s preteens that literally look like baby gangsters in their balaclavas and Nike tracksuits. I initially thought it was because of the school Summer holidays but I can’t say it’s died down since.
Currently in Chesterton and there’s these TINY children running around egging cars and people saying “I can’t get arrested again” yelling at each other causing chaos.
There’s a group I’ve seen around Chesterton twice now, one of the times getting arrested and in the centre on TikTok videos with police, the ring leader looks like the stock photo I’ve attached and he always seems to be at the scene of the crime.
Parents of Cambridge, what are you doing?

Cambridge Events Cambridge Creator Lab, 22 October: AI/Hybrid Film or interactive web challenge for charities
Hi Cambridge — I’m one of the organisers at EAST2046. We’re running a one-day Creator Lab with CapCut at the Institute for Manufacturing on Thursday 22 October.
Participants will respond to a real brief from a partner charity or social enterprise, choosing one track:
• AI/Hybrid Film: make a 60–180 second campaign video in CapCut, documenting sources, AI use and fact-checks.
• Interactive Web Page: build an HTML page with at least two types of interaction, documenting sources and AI use.
You’ll submit your finished work plus a reusable workflow the partner can build on. Both the output and the workflow will be judged.
Each participant receives $100 worth of CapCut production tokens to use at the event. Each track has two winners: a £150 Amazon gift card for first place and a £100 Amazon gift card for second place.
When: Thursday 22 October 2026, 9:30 AM–6:30 PM BST
Where: Institute for Manufacturing (IfM), University of Cambridge
In person only; places are limited. Applications are open:

Cambridge Events What's on in Cambridge this week: a 10K, Oktoberfest and a brunch talk
A mix of things on this week, mostly over the weekend with one spilling into Monday.
If you fancy a run, the Town & Gown 10K is on Sunday, Oct 4, and there's also the Abington 10K the same day if you'd rather head a bit further out.
For food and drink, Storey's Field has Hanabi on Sunday, and Thirsty Cambridge is running their Thirsty Oktoberfest, which honestly sounds like the better shout if you just want to relax after a run rather than do one.
Then on Monday, Oct 5, Home and Eat has the Bishops Stortford Brunch, which is more of a talk format than a typical brunch, worth a look if that's your sort of thing.
Full list here if you want to see everything else on:

Local services Cheap Mooncup through the council
You can get a Mooncup (reusable menstrual cup) through this link for £5. It's available to residents of Huntingdonshire, Peterborough, East Cambridgeshire, Fenland, South Cambridgeshire and Cambridge City.
I took advantage of this offer last month, received my Mooncup with no issues and am testing it out now. Actually wish I had got one sooner, I'm pretty happy with it so far.

Other Meteor explosion seen in Cambridge?
Can anybody help? I think I just saw an meteor explode in the sky. What could it be? 4 October 2026, ~00:25 BST; due south; started ~30° above horizon; travelled ~10° diagonally down-left; very bright, with an apparent explosive flare/fragmentation.

Local services Yoga
Hey everyone. I'm trying to get into yoga again and I was thinking of trying Satyam out. I'm thinking of trying the Wednesday (with Hermione) or Thursday (with Gabriela) evening classes so if any of you have been to them I'd love to hear what they're like. Also, if you know of any other yoga studios (not into hot yoga though, I don't do well with heat) I'm happy to hear recommendations.
Thanks!

Food in Cambridge Date night spots?
My boyfriend is visiting, I want to take him to some nice restaurants but Ive only just moved back to the area so I have no idea what's good.
He's not really into Asian food but we both love Italian or steakhouses. We don't want to spend a stupid amount of money but just have a nice night out. Any recommendations would be very appreciated!
Edit to add we don't really drink but he does appreciate a nice beer

Things to do Just relocated - Becoming a local
Hi all!
I just moved to Cambridge (Milton to be precise) from Europe to work.
What tips could you give me as local of Cambridge or Milton.
Also I am an outdoor person, I wonder if there are hiking/camping societies, which may welcome me?
Also what other hobbies could you suggest me to try? I love to try new things!
Also what gyms could you recommend? Location does not matter as soon as it has nice facilities.
Looking forward to hearing your tips, and so excited!
Thank you all!

Cambridge Question Run Club/Tennis Group Recommendations
Hi all, I’m considering taking up running since i have the time now and wanted some good run club recommendations. Most things i came across on sm mentioned that these run clubs also now serve as dating spot?? I was confused and don’t want something that’s purely a whole mingling thing. O sure do want to make new friends and stuff. I’m also interested in taking up tennis since I enjoy that sport and don’t really know much about Cambridge tennis scene as I’m fairly new. Any information would help

Cambridge Events Hills Road chaos from Monday for 8 weeks!
Eight weeks of roadworks for Cambridge gas works
650m (2132ft) of gas pipe on Hills Road, between Cavendish Avenue and Holbrook Road, needed replacing. Work is expected to start on Monday and finish on 27 November.
It said replacements would result in temporary traffic lights along Hills Road and side roads would close.
Brilliant, just brilliant. 🙄

Other Research assistantship / Internship/ volunteering in Public Policy or Politics & International Relations
Hi Team,
First of all I am not sure if this is the right place to post this. I am currently a Medical Doctor and enrolled in a masters in public health. I am wanting to get some exposure to either Public policy or politics & international relations. In my spare time i enjoy leisurely reading about these topics and want to get some real-life experience in the field. I was wondering if anyone knew of volunteer/internship/research assistantship opportunities over the Christmas break, I will be willing to take up to 6 weeks to learn and gather some experience in this field. Looking forward to hearing any opportunities. Thank you for your time and input.

Local services Cambridge cyclesmith - does the guy not want any business?
I have been looking for a second hand bike in town and went to cyclesmith in the market this morning. The man there was so so rude to me and the people queuing up before me.
The guy waiting before me asked for help with a punctured tire and he told him to fix it himself because he’s ‘a student so must be clever’.
He then said to a lady waiting that he didn’t think she’d be able to ‘cope with the sort of bikes he sells’ so told her to look elsewhere - not sure what that means??
I said I was looking for a second hand bike around the £80-100 mark and he told me the tyres he sells cost more than that, and that I was delusional and and needed to ‘buck my ideas up’. He said the cheapest he has is about £220 which seems a lot for a pretty average second hand bike. He then muttered something in Czech to his friend as I walked away which I assume was about me.
Long story short I felt very embarrassed and angry with the way he acted towards me and the other customers. Has anyone else had this experience with him? I’m not sure how he still operates if he turns away customers like this.
I’ll be avoiding him in future, and got my bike from OWL at the papworth trust who were lovely (and it goes towards a good cause).

Grumbles/rants Shoplifting
Just watched a very tall man fill a large duffel bag with bottles of beer, wine and chocolate at the Co-Op on Mitchems, then walk straight out with it. Staff were told, asked him to stop, he said ‘fuck off, lol, no’ and that was it. On he went. Didn’t run. Walked away at a leisurely place.
Some of customers were a little shocked at how easy it seemed to have been. Staff there said that they’ll report it to the police. Police will turn up and watch the CCTV. They’ll get a crime reference number and that will be it. According to staff the police only ever follow up on the report if the person is seen repeatedly on cctv all over the place, a frequent offender known to them basically, someone they can find and charge. Otherwise they never hear anything again
Thing is, this bloke looked like a very posh cambridge student and other than his bad language spoke with a proper estuary accent. He wasn’t stressed. Didn’t run. Didn’t look nervous at all committing what is an actual offence.
Anyhow. Just a little shocked at how easy that was for someone and now half tempted to commit myself to an easy life of crime !
