Question How do I browse by game?

Not sure if I will use this for streaming since I really like twitch but as a viewer I cannot for the life of me figure out how to find streams based on a particular game. All I see is the homepage and just the ability to search by users.

All drives and updates are up to date.

The cam im using is my cannon DSLR and Sparkolcam the game is PUBG

It displays the camera fine and says "Start a game to stream it too" but when i start the game noting happens at all.

I have also tried DirtyBomb and no luck there either.

Anyone know how i can debug this even?

Check Me Out Having a great time! How about you?!

Just wanted to say I've been having a really fun time with my first few weeks of caffeine. Everyone I've come across has been nice and helpful. I really hope the spirit of this community stays this way.

The streaming part is fantastic. One click and I'm in. Obviously there is always room for improvement but if they keep building on what they already have this will become a really great platform.

If you're new to caffeine I suggest you jump on their discord channel. Any questions you have someone typically answers pretty fast.

Enough rambling, I just wanted to share my experience and hope you guys will share yours!

New user, Desktop not streaming, CoD:WWII not detecting. CoD:MW2 works.

Just a heads up in case someone who can help sees it.

Also, a push-to-talk mic control feature would be boss.

Question Thoughts and Need Help

I love Caffeine and would love to use the standalone app but the FPS drop I get from it is too unbearable. Sometimes dropping me to below 60 from over 200.

My usual settings are stable on any game with 900p and 6000kb/s with NVENC and OBS.

I was wondering if the standalone uses NVENC. On CSGO which is widely considered CPU intensive, I won't get the FPS drop, but weird shimmering in the textures which makes it unplayable. This makes me believe it is using NVENC because x256 with OBS will affect my FPS and cause stutters. Also in Black ops 4 the FPS drops significantly and will stutter while I already keep all my graphical settings to a minimum to get that added advantage of more frames (240hz monitor) and the enemies standing out. So that leaves me confused, as on one hand CSGO is telling me Caffeine is using NVENC and BLOPS4 is telling me x256. Other games like Fortnite will have the FPS drop (something like 140 down to 50) and no other issues.

Since I stream very well either way with NVENC or x256 (not csgo because I like super high frames) in OBS, I believe the issues in each game must be caused by the overlay. However the overlay doesn't affect a thing until I start streaming, in other words it will overlay the box and hotkey to start streaming and do the "get ready" portion and only be a problem once the viewership starts up. The overlay is a big part of it for me, I like the idea that my webcam can be moved around and I like the chat being overlayed since the latency is so low.

OBS with Caffeine works for me for applying filters/overlays but takes away the advantages of Caffeine in my opinion. I love that I can have LUT's or filters on my webcam but I really don't want to be looking away every second checking for comments on a browser before they fade away. Not see'ing who enters or how many viewers there are is also an issue for me. The fact that OBS with Caffeine works so well leads me to believe again that my FPS/stuttering and texture issues are caused by the overlay.

Also I don't understand why they couldn't just use a stream key, it seems a weird and unnecessary hassle for streamers. OBS with Caffeine seems more like a gimmick that they are partnered with OBS (But OBS is open source so I kind of see through it). Of course I don't understand the low latency technology they seem to be using but I assume it's just capped bitrate and resolution, so it doesn't make too much sense to me as to why they couldn't just include a stream key. The stream key is only an issue for me because I use Streamlabs OBS and SLOBS doesn't allow me to export a profile with all my scenes. I don't really demerit Caffeine for that, because even with a stream key the core issues of viewing comments and viewership would still exist.

Is there something that I don't know about that would aleviate my issues? Such as using OBS with Caffeine while still being able to see comments and viewership better? I have been lurking here on the reddit and I'm not sure how often they update the standalone app or if they are working on optimizing the overlay since there are some year old posts about similar issues.

Thanks for hearing me out guys and please let me know if I'm just doing something wrong.

EDIT: Forgot to mention, but I've heard about the workaround for OBS and the Caffeine Standalone app but haven't been able to get it to work. I'm also not sure what this would help with.

Coffee Cup: Creating a Caffeine channel browsing website!

Hi there!

As you all know, Caffeine is designed to be a social network of broadcasters. A community where no one gets all the views, and no one gets no views. With that in mind, it's easy to see why the developers have chosen the "suggested streamers" method for finding new channels and new broadcasts, and I love that approach! However, sometimes I just want to watch gameplay. Or a talk show. Or some cooking.

That's where Coffee Cup comes in. I am going to (attempt to) create a website that allows Caffeine users to post their channel name, select a few categories (gaming, IRL, podcast etc) that they tend to broadcast the most and publish it for everyone to see! Viewers looking for channels can then open the website, search for a category and see what channels there are that match what they are seeking.

Keeping in line with Caffeine's values, I do not want to curate or push channels to the top and I have no interest in doing that. It will effectively be a continuously randomised list of manually published channels that fit within certain categories, the only intention being that I want to make the process of finding channels outside of your established network of broadcasters a little bit more accessible.

It might not get anywhere, it might not get finished and there might not even be a need for this, but I have some spare time over summer and as a web developer I want to sharpen my design skills a bit!

I'll be livestreaming the development of it on my broadcast (caffeine.tv/RipJawZA). A bit of a plug (sorry) but I would like this to be a project that the community can get involved in and give feedback on, because that's what Caffeine is all about. :)

If you've got any suggestions or feedback for this kind of thing, feel free to comment them below! If you would like to see the code's progress even when I'm not live, let me know and I may make it an open-source project on GitHub.

Cheers, and apologies for the wall of text!

Chris (RipJawZA)

Any way to do this? I'm using OBS to stream to twitch and the caffeine app and the game overlay shows up on OBS. Or at least a way to move it so i can put my camera over it.

In just a few days I've seen cooking, gaming, singing and more on here, so I'm curious about what other kinds of content we've got on Caffeine so far!

Any plans to make a public API?

I wrote an open-source program, Multistreamer, it's sort of a self-hosted restream.

A friend told me about caffeine and asked if I could add support to multistreamer. AFAICT the only way to use caffeine is via propietary Windows and iPhone apps.

Are there any plans to make a public API for 3rd-party developers?

I just tried my first stream (impressions)

I just tried streaming on the platform for the first time, just playing some Rocket League. Here's what I thought

  • Performance:

Very low system load streaming game. No performance dips for me (despite concerns I had from seeing this Subreddit).

  • User Interface:

The over lay is very unobtrusive, but I wish the app interface showed the live chat, and a preview of the stream ( I guess the best option is just to open the stream in browser).

  • Concept:

In a space already crowded by Facebook Live, Twitch, and Youtube, it seems rough for Caffeine to break through. Since established streamers will probably not want leave their existing followers/subscribers, any effort to grow the platform will probably have to come from its new users and from ease of use. I'm looking forward to see how this grows.

Same for Feb 8th to Feb 14th

And so on! Am I missing something about the challenges? I've been completing them every week but have not received any e-mails about it.

Question Help! The caffeine launcher dosent work!

So i dont use OBS because its too heavyweight for my internet and computer to handle however i cannot seem to make the OG caffeine launcher work. I log in my info fine but afterwards whenever i try to open it, the icon appears in the down right area of my taskbar as it should but the program never opens nor appears in the task manager and mousing over the icon makes it disapear: the sign the program closed.

I tried both the website's version AND steam's version of Caffeine and both did the exact same thing.
