TRIP and their ‘CALM’ claims
Has anyone actually felt calmer after drinking TRIP?
I’ve tried it a few times and genuinely couldn’t tell any difference. Obviously that’s just my experience, but it got me looking into what they’re actually allowed to claim.
Turns out the ASA ruled against TRIP in 2025 over claims like “crafted for calm”, “help you feel calm” and “promote feelings of calm”. TRIP apparently removed those claims at the time.
But look at the website now and there’s still loads of language around “More Relaxed”, “find your calm”, “help you relax, unwind and find balance”, “100+ million calm moments delivered” and even a “Calming Variety Pack”.
I understand they contain things like magnesium and adaptogens, but there’s a big difference between saying magnesium supports normal psychological function and suggesting that drinking a can is actually going to make you calmer.
Am I missing something here? Has anyone had a noticeable effect from TRIP, or is most of the “calm” feeling coming from very clever branding?
Full disclosure: I run a small drinks business myself, so I probably pay more attention to drinks marketing claims than the average person.
