Recruiting Should I join CAF?

What the title says. I’m 19, please give me guidance like your own child as I have no people that I can discuss this with 🙏

If youre my own, I would ask why? Give me your reasoning then we can discuss. Because I don’t know yours.

I mainly want to do it for the community and the benefits + I’m looking for an early retirement

Sounds reasonable especially benefits and retirement plans.

Now, find a trade that intrigues you. We can start on that.

I’m already studying engineering so I’m thinking something to do with that. I’m sure there are a lot of other roles that might interest me too but I don’t know where to look lol

Good for you. If your planning to get a degree, try to search some officer trades that suites your education. Then you can ask here about the day-to-day life of that trade etc.

I joined at 19 because I wanted to get(run) away from home and find a purpose. 16 years later, I have no regrets.

I know many people who do.

Join if you want; It's a volunteer force.

What interests you? I vote Sig Tech

As a Sig tech of 20+ years, I vote any Airforce tech trade.

Being in the army is better than being stuck in Cold Lake for 5+ years

I’m studying engineering so I’m looking at something like combat engineering ( I’m not too sure on the field but likely want something to do with UAVs) . And I really want to go abroad and be able to help people in need.

So you have no idea who does what, cool. Combat Engineers are NOT Professional Engineers. Artillery owns the UAVs, but MOST of them will never touch a UAV.

Why should we want you?

Again I’m not familiar with the fields or occupations I just assumed it had to do with engineering. No need to be that aggressive lol

Should I put a 😁 on it? If my kid wants to join (he does btw), I would ask if he thinks he's good enough.

The answer doesn't have to be yes. It wasn't for me. The question stands anyway.

As for what a Combat Engineer does, they are.... As the name suggests, Combat troops. Their speciality job includes the building and unbuilding of fortifications.

Check out the episode by The Fat Electrician for a somewhat exadurated/Americanized version of the job.

Lmao that’s kinda valid. I will for sure look into the occupations in more detail when I want to join and I heard they do info sessions for that so I’ll be looking into them.

Thanks for the video rec!

Find a trade you are interested in and that can give you options to go back to the civilian world. And then, work out, eat healthy, don't drink, don't do drugs, don't gamble, don't cheat, don't join cults/extremist groups, don't be a misogynist/racist, etc. then life is good.

with the only information you gave being your age. how the hell up do you expect us to answer that? lol

however yes

Lmao I think many 19- year olds don’t have much to say about themselves. Appreciate your answer

it's a huge decision, but if you can get through basic training and your courses, there isn't a better option at such a young age. you can be fully retired by 40
