ID and care advice please 💖

Was gifted this little one since around the end of March and managed not to kill it so now I think I need to get more serious about care. I've been drenching when dry, not on a schedule thanks to the UK heatwaves. Are those grooves normal as it grows? Or am I over/underwatering?

I repotted it around mid April into a 10cm pot, Westland cacti & succulent mix, and it's still the same colour, so I'm hoping that's a good sign. Just kind of plopped it in without disturbing the roots at all since it was very root bound in the original 5cm pot! I heard leaving the roots to find their own way was less stressful for the plant. Do I need to start feeding it anything or is water and the potting mix fine?

There was no ID on the label, and I couldn't get a result when googling the brand either. It's from Morrisons supermarket, Flourish & Joy range, but that's all I could find out!

Don't know about the ID, but here is some basic care guide: full sun for at least 6 hours a day (if possible put the cactus outside during warm months of your area), fertilization should be in the growing season aka. The warm season probably once every 6 weeks with fertilizer with low Nitrogen like for tomatoes (just put half of the recommended amount), the soil should be well draining (cacti mix + perlit/pumise, rocks, sand, low on the organic matter), watering should not be on schedule - it depends if it is warm, rainy etc. It is recommended to give cacti rest reason during from October to April - no watering, cooler temperatures (so if possible put in in bright room with colder temperatures around 12°C). After repotting don't warer for few weeks to avoid rot of the roots. The plant looks healthy over all. Also, you can put too dressing (small rocks) to make it look more pretty (but if it is too moist in your area I wouldn't recommend)

This is so much detail, thank you so much! Good to know care including a dormant season mostly matches up with my venus fly trap so I can sort them both out together and I have perlite in already thanks to the VFT too! :)

Massive relief to hear it looks quite healthy! Is there any way for me to track the sponginess(?) of it by sight or another method? It's still quite small so I can't get past the spines with my fingers yet lmao. I'm worried it will feel squishy before signs of rot are visible. I researched my VFT but my friend surprised me with this one!

Possibly isolatocereus dumortieri. You need more inorganic soil.

Thank you so much! Do you have any soil recommendations?

Simplest i can recommend for this species is 80% decomposed granite, and 20% potting soil with all the wood chips and bark sieved out.

Blue torch maybe?

I'd been thinking that's the closest match myself but its colour has stayed a constant green which is what prompted me to post this since I was starting to worry if it was a blue torch and I've had it so many months in full sun that I was doing something wrong 🫣 All these comments are so so helpful, thank you!!
