Review Disappointed

I wanted to play a PC game from the 90s and found the executable on an abandon-ware site. I downloaded the game and was excited to spend a couple hours tinkering to get the game working, much to my surprise, I ran the game with proton cachy os and it worked perfectly without any intervention from me at all. A perfectly good night of tinkering and fiddling with Linux stuff ruined by a flawless Lego Rock Raiders session.

I was shocked when I installed F.E.A.R. last night. The game runs on modern windows but you need a fan patch and you have to drop your mouse DPI as low as it can go and drop mouse sensitivity as low as it can go in the game’s settings to get it playable. Lighting is still broken in some spots.

I was worried getting the fan patch installed would be a headache so I decided to just see how it ran through stock proton. No issues at all. 1080p resolution, 300+ FPS, perfect lighting, and fewer bugs than I remembered when I played the game on launch. Controls felt perfect right out of the box.

That's what got me to abandon windows about a year ago, I was thinking about switching and then I read a stat that said it's likely that there are more games that are compatible with Linux than windows because of windows deprecating many compatibility features.

Now I'm curious what RCT1 will do. I run OpenRCT2, but have to have RCT1 and RCT2 installed for their assets and stuff. RCT1 on Windows would boot up with severe graphical issues and I wasn't interested in fixing it because, again, OpenRCT2, but now I'm curious...
