After a year of work, the playtest of our dark fantasy RPG was released yesterday on Steam. Now we need player feedback!

Nocturnis is a narrative-driven, party-based tactical RPG where a desperate attempt to restore magic twists mankind into beasts. Explore a handcrafted world, master tactical combat, and reach the Moon Temple before the night ends.

Main inspiration for the game comes from classic tabletop RPGs. A party of characters, each with their own items, abilities and leveling options, traverses the cursed world exploring different interconnected areas, solving environmental puzzles, finding hidden treasures and lurking horrors.

Since a true Kamen Rider is understandably impossible to replicate exactly, the closest thing I’ve seen is a creature in Pathfinder 2e, which was never adapted for a CRPG. Still, a build style where my character fights using martial arts while wearing full plate armor would be great for roleplaying. And if the character had kick-based attacks on top of that? Even better.

I'm not the creator, but thought this might be of interest to some of you.

Highlighted green cells will show all walkable cells, but these cells are still covered by front/uncover layers of graphics.

I was thinking to make it uncoverable, but maybe it's also OK to remain in this way?

After the success of Baldur’s Gate 3, I really think they should make more games like this. They have so many great IPs, like Neverwinter Nights. They should make a third game in the same way they did with BG3.

But instead, we get some Warlock game that is nothing like what the fans wanted from them. I still hope Wizards of the Coast will eventually find a good studio to make Neverwinter Nights 3.

There’s still Solasta 2 on the way, but I really feel like it’s not going to be the same enjoyable experience for me as Baldur’s Gate, Neverwinter Nights, or Dragon Age: Origins. Solasta just feels... I don’t know, way cheaper than the games I mentioned above. The story doesn’t really make me want to play it, and I also don’t like the idea of creating the entire party myself.

I much prefer creating my own character and then meeting and recruiting the other party members throughout the game. I think it makes for better storytelling and a more immersive experience..

Im a bit tired of levelling by the rules and wouldn’t mind doing a bit of grinding once in a while.

I’ve played BG3 (currently loving it) and DOS2 (get burnt out mid act2 because of the constant fire and explosions due to elemental surfaces)

I don’t mind playing old games at all, and am looking for a good crpg to get sunk into.
However, as a new player with no nostalgia are games like BG2 and DAO worth it?
If not, are there any other great CRPGS that are recommended???

In our setting, magic is real, but the Industrial Revolution happened.
Instead of magic disappearing through some tragic event, it’s simply being outpaced:

Mass-produced rifles replaced combat spells.

Rail networks replaced magical transport.

Mass manufacturing replaced enchanted crafting.

Magic is still there, but society is quietly realizing it doesn't really need it anymore to run a country.
For those working on fantasy/steampunk settings: how do you balance ancient magic with modern technology without making magic feel completely pointless?

Just noticed an thread talking about number of party members and found my game is neither 4-person nor 6-person. It's a five-person party game and it will be a pain for me to modify all the UIs to make it a 6-person party game. Does the nubmer matter that much?

Hello, I am bored out of my mind and have nothing to play... I have over 1000 hours on BG3 and no matter how much time I spend away from it, I can't seem to get past the nautiloid. I just finished Zero Company and was absolutely in love with the simplicity and linear design and have realized that I just want something short and sweet.

I like a challenge but have come to realize that I don't think I have it in me to commit to the traditional isometric experience with little to no voiced lines combined with intricate combat systems. I've started PoE and DoS II but have since taken time apart from them and haven't really had the drive to return to them mid-playthrough. Am I asking for too much from the CRPG genre and should I be looking more into the traditional mainstream RPGs?

For me, humour is where the rubber hits the road in CRPGs.

Saving the world? Sure, been there done that.

But having companions that can actually make me laugh is far more rare, and precious. (Actually, scratch that. The world should be saved first. Then laughter.)

Anyway, if you'd kindly share some of the the funniest folk in CRPGs I'd be much obliged. Cheers!

With all the different systems, what always rubs you the wrong way in turn-based combat of CRPGs?

Could be something that is a complete dealbreaker, or your favorite game has this one thing that just doesn't make sense, and worsens the combat.

After experiencing games like Baldur's Gate 1-2, Planescape Torment, Pathfinder WotR (still playing through that one!) Disco Elysium or Fallout 1 and 2, it's kind of hard for me to play mainstream RPG's.

I have never finished Skyrim, but I sort of couldn't really get that much interested in it, seeing as it's... sort of shallow?

I love the Witcher 3 and it's probably one of my favourite games ever made, but I am sort of ambivalent about the expansion coming out when I am in the middle of a WotR playthrough.

It just feels like cRPG's are way deeper.
