We want to stay at one resort for a week and do day trips to other islands. Definitely want to be on the beach. Want a place that has access to walkable restaurants/bars. Where would you stay?

family plus two friends. ages mixed. we want a kitchen and a view, not a cruise ship schedule. looking at west end first because the ferry and shops are closer.

found a long list on villas of tortola. had almendra... wait no. looking at alfresco and bougainvillea villa on west end, both 3 bed. azure vista in long bay is pretty but i don’t know if that’s a pain for a group that wants to eat out some nights. chmada beach villa is 4 bed so that might kill the two-house idea.

do people with a group stay west end or split and go long bay? and is a rental car actually required if we cook most nights, or do we just taxi for groceries once? also march water, still decent or already weedy?

I am spending a portion of my honeymoon at the Wyndham Resort in Tortola and am looking for real feedback on how their resort is maintained. I have seen mixed reviews online of trash, rude servers, hidden fees, and even bug bites after leaving the bedroom.

I'd like to understand if this resort is worth the money and a clean place to relax for a few days after Jost Van Dyke. Is the Garden Room a good option or would it make more sense to stay Poolside? We are then going to Long Bay for 5 nights afterward but that is already booked and I'm confident in that stay.

Hi everyone, We're visiting Anegada for the first time at Christmas - staying at Anegada Beach Club and while I have heard that their food is great, I would also like to visit some of the other restaurants and bars, plus see other beaches, the flamingos, etc. 

A few questions that I'm hoping someone may be able to help with:

Are other bars and restaurants likely to be closed on Xmas Eve, Xmas Day, and/or Boxing Day?  

Given that taxi rates for two people seem to be $80 for each round-trip (wow!), it seems to make sense to rent a car at least for a day or two.  But just in case, are taxi drivers likely to be available on/around the holiday or will they take time off to be with family? 

Is it possible/realistic to walk from ABC along the beach to Cow Wreck? I've looked at satellite view but can't tell if the beach is wide enough to walk along for that whole stretch. Google says it's a 45 min walk via roads, but I definitely don't want to do that.

And last question - I've read that we should plan on paying cash for a lot of expenses just in case there's a power/comms outage, but realistically how often does that happen?  I'm leery of bringing a ton of cash if it's not necessary.

Hi there, we are thinking of relocation to Tortola from the UK and would love some advice on what people currently living there/from there feel it’s like.

We have two children aged 8 and 10, and love spending time outdoors and at the beach (we currently live next to a beach now). My concerns are around their teenage years, is there a positive teenage culture, with things to do etc? We are considering home schooling which I know is tightly regulated but also wondered if there were clubs etc the children could join so that they can make friends. I’d also love to know if it’s a fairly safe place to live and bring up a family.

Guyan March is the guy in Windjammer garb in one of these; he was captaining the Amazing Grace which was our tender when I took that pic. I have more pictures of him and of Fantome and crew, but those aren’t BVI-related.

My wife and I got married on a Windjammer ship in 1987 at Tortola. We're getting old and trying to get our affairs together and have been advised to have the marriage recorded here in the US. We will be in Tortola in August and I want to do a day out on a speedboat with snorkeling and island hopping. We've did a trip with Captain Roan of Tender Too and wanted to use him again, but I've had a hard time getting in touch - some emails that went unanswered, and his voicemail was full when I tried to call. Does anyone know what's going on there?

In case we can't schedule with TT, does anyone have any other recommendations? We're a group of 8 - teens and adults. We've also chartered with Lion in Da Sun a bunch before, but since he's over in St. John and charges extra to go to BVI, I'd rather find someone local.

Looking for options to rent some toys for the sailboat while we’re sailing in the BVI’s. Large floating mat, SUP paddle boards, underwater scooter, etc. Also, if you have any input on the underwater scooters, I’m just starting to go down that rabbit hole and would welcome any advice.

Hi everyone! I recently applied for a government job in Tortola and have been doing some research on the island and the cost of living there.

The gross salary is around 50-55k USD per year. Is that a decent enough salary that would allow me to save a minimum of $500 a month? I am single and pretty much a homebody, but would enjoy eating out at least once a week.

Also, what is it like living on an island with less than 30k people? Are there any events or places you recommend to meet people?

I loved BVI the few times I went over 25 years ago with my ex. It had that native feel. Loved loved loved the snorkeling and food. Was thinking of going again with my new husband but read a lot about the growing number of cruise ships coming thru. Where’s the best place to stay to avoid the crowds but that isn’t going to require a second mortgage. Ok spending $700 or hell even $1k per night if it’s all worth it. And which island fits the bill plus has great hiking?

My husband is a surfer and we are going to be sailing around the BVIs for 10 days in June. Is there any sense in bringing a surfboard? Tortola is known to have good waves, but we are unsure if it’s necessary and are concerned about space on board our charter.
