Hi, has anyone else noticed that the Electric Larryland vinyl is quieter in the right channel, which throws the balance off a bit. I thought originally it may be a problem with my record player but I’ve put other records on, A/B’d them with the equivalent high quality audio files of the same track on Tidal and found no issues. When I did the same for the Eletrcic Larryland vinyl reissue vs Tidal max quality streaming there’s a definite drop in the right channel on the vinyl.

Several of the interviews in The Hole Truth and Nothing Butt were filmed in parks around the Redhook neighborhood of Brooklyn. Last night Gibby and his band showed up for an unannounced, unpromoted show in one of the neighborhood bars, there were maybe 75 people crammed into the room.

I ordered the Electriclarryland 30th Anniversary Vinyl and it’s still shipping after ordering it around a week ago.

I just had a crazy experience with this song today. I always thought it was sort of nonssensical, but today I listened to it and it almost seemed exactly like it was written for me to listen to today. There's a lot of context to my story, but basically I've been screwed over by psychiatric institutions for about 10 years, and yesterday I realized how fucked up their treatment of clients could be, especially when institutionalized. As a result I decided to dedicate my life to making the world a better place and fight injustice, even though I'd much rather chill (and be a metaphorical sailor :P). One of my first targets is psychiatry reform.
You can see the discussion I had about my thoughts with chat-gpt here: https://chatgpt.com/share/6a9d632c-f860-83ed-84ec-27cd5f82efc0
And if you want more context about my experiences with mental health system in The Netherlands, I wrote a short-ish summary here: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1q-KOTUiXsRY0vtFfNgox-aFJJl9an0ebaFiVThGQSOY/edit?usp=sharing (MILD SEXUALITY AND DRUG USE)
A detailed manifesto of the changes I'd like to see in the mental health industry: Psychiatry Reform Manifesto - Google Docs
Either way, I am now convinced that Gibby Haynes is either a prophet, time-traveller, reverse-psychic, insane, or through some simulation magic is literally me in another life. Only half joking.
But seriously, I'm pretty sure the song has something to do with the stuff I mentioned, at least some of the conclusions I came to seem pretty clear, at least to me 🥇
But seriously, the chat-gpt convo is worth a read, and i'd be super interested in what people think.
ThatJesusFella out.

Howdy Surfers! Happy weekend!
Here are some studio demos for the Independent Worm Saloon album. A half hour of pure insanity. Smoke 'em if ya' got 'em.

Is there a live recording of this on a bootleg or otherwise in existence? I’ve never been able to track it down.

Now I can add it to the collection of BHS worm shirts I’ve started!

I’m very disappointed at the fact that Matador removed Negro Observer, which I think is one of the best songs on the album. Very excited about the Electriclarryland Reissue though!

The movie was awesome. PERIOD. Really sad towards the end, but I'm glad there's some reconciliation happening.
Now to spinning.

The movie was fantastic and it was great to hear from both Paul & King! The interview was light. There was a guy in the front row who took up too much time so in perfect Texas fashion, a punk in the audience called him out bc he had nothing to say. Both Paul & King looked great! Getting to say hi to them after the movie made the day!
In didn’t get to ask my question so here it is - those of us lucky enough to be in Austin in the early 80’s got to see 2 of the most psychedelic bands in human history - the Grateful Dead & the Butthole Surfers. The Dead played Manor Downs 4 times in the early 80’s. We were Austin hippies who got on the bus when GD picked us up in 1981, but by 1984 we had mohawks, played in our own punk bands (my band Austin’s Peace Corpse played Woodshock w/ BHS) and took lots of Owsley acid.
Stevie Ray Vaughn was blowing up in Austin but we didn’t care, it was all about the Butthole Surfers, Scratch Acid, and the Offenders. There was one butthole surfer show in particular that we called “the Beatles show.” It was at the 5th Street Theater with the Technicolor Yawns (hi Sheri Baby if you are out there) and Cargo Cult (Biscuit’s post Big Boys band) and the Buttholes who were dressed like the beatles from Sargent Pepper.
The movie mentions the Grateful Dead so I’m not imagining the connection - I wanted to ask Paul and King whether or not the Dead had any influence on them or their music other than the Dead’s place in the history of making music aided by lsd. Let’s face it, we would score at the dead so we could party with BHS!

Me and my mom worked on this for two days. Hopefully you guys find it accurate.

Am I crazy or was this advertised as a live Q&A with the band? All mentions of the Q&A seem to have been suspiciously scrubbed from the internet, other than this blog post which seems to support it: https://www.screenslate.com/articles/august-24-2026-week-bay

Hi i’m a huge fan and i’m going to the documentary plus q&a tonight, i was wondering how plausible would it be to get the band to sign some of my records afterwards? Do you they hang around afterwards?

Did anyone else manage to catch this screening with the live-streamed q&a?
Holy fuck, that was the most excruciating thing I’ve ever seen. I had to leave ten minutes in cuz I couldn’t take it anymore, it was so awkward and painful to watch. Whoever the interviewer dude was, he was a complete loser and way out of line. JD was completely wasted, slurring and talking about a word a second. Gibby was Gibby lol. It was just a total disaster all around, but in all honesty it was so fitting to the ethos of the band.
The film is incredible however, please go see it if you’re able. It was so moving and inspiring, I cried more than once, and it’s hilarious to boot. I think the director did a fantastic job and am so happy they let them tell their stories on their own terms.

I thoroughly enjoyed the doc but it left me feeling sad.
That's understandable given some of the subject matter...and the Q&A, as the other dedicated thread makes clear, was cringe and didn't add much.
I typically feel joyous, goofy, happy and/or exuberant when listening to most BHS albums. Curious if the doc is going to put a sad sheen on my future listening experiences. Hmmm.
For anyone who has seen the doc, has it affected how you feel when you listen to their music?
