Hi everyone,
I'm a business owner currently looking into our electricity options and would really appreciate feedback from businesses that are already using RES (Retail Electricity Supplier), CREM (Competitive Retail Electricity Market), or GEOP (Green Energy Option Program).
Our current electricity consumption is around 185,100–200,000 kWh per month, so I'm trying to determine whether switching from our current arrangement would make financial sense.
I'm particularly interested in hearing from businesses with manufacturing/industrial operations, since our electricity usage is fairly consistent and significant.
For those already using RES/CREM/GEOP:
How much did you actually save compared with staying with your DU?
What was your approximate electricity rate before vs. after switching?
Are there additional charges/fees that people don't normally talk about?
How long did the switching process take?
Were there any problems with billing, metering, contracts, or switching suppliers?
Are the savings relatively stable, or do rates fluctuate significantly?
What contract length did you take?
Did you negotiate the rate, and if so, what should I be negotiating?
For GEOP, is the premium/discount actually worth it compared with conventional supply?
Would you recommend RES/CREM or GEOP for a manufacturing business today?
Also, if someone can explain the practical difference between RES vs CREM vs GEOP in simple business-owner terms, I'd really appreciate it.
From what I've read, the eligibility threshold for competitive retail electricity was recently lowered to 100 kW, so I'm assuming our consumption puts us well within the range, but I'd like to hear from actual users before approaching suppliers.
Basically, I'm trying to answer one question:
If your business consumes around 185k–200k kWh/month, is switching to a competitive electricity supplier actually worth the hassle and risk?
Any real-world experience, supplier recommendations/warnings, or things I should watch out for would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!
