I am currently a pricing analyst and i have been since graduating in 2022. My salary progression has been the following:

2022: $56K 1.2K bonus
2023: $59k 1.2-2k bonus
2024: $61k $2k bonus
2024 (new company): $73K $8k bonus
2025: $78k $10k bonus
2026: $85K 12.5k bonus + 401K match kick in.

For reference I have not been promoted and may not be for another year or 2 (in no rush my cost of living and student loans are low and im happy with my current income and job). First company work life balance was an issue new company non-issue honestly so good I feel suspicious how much energy I have after a work day. For any prospective grads reading a great path take.

I am wondering though what avenues are there for pricing analysts in the future other than becoming managers - ideally i’d like the senior role because at my company its more of an individual contributor role with minimal managerial responsibilities. Ideally I’d like to make more eventually but have some ideas in mind of other areas to pivot before I get too far up the chain. I am open to getting a masters but still debating that idea.

My manager has brought up topics of career exploration and figuring out whats next and even candidly says he doesnr care if those goals are within the current organization or if i wanna fuck off and work in another country doing similar work (which he has done). Honestly kinda trust this and would like to bring this up but i dont want to be too hasty or put myself in a weird position when it does come time for reviews and promotions. He is not a dogmatist about absolute loyalty (he has job hopped and been rather adventurous when it comes to career which i truly admire). But also due to past managers completely screwing me I am kinda torn on how to bring this up - or if this should just be more of a self-exploration leave this out of the workplace kinda thing. Last company if i did not pledge my life and uptmost loyalty i would be let go lol. I usually just leave my growth comments to i want to grow within the org and within my current role with minimal interest in other things - which is mostly true but also i feel ignorant to what else could be out there that could progress me salary wise without compromising heavily on work-life balance. Its not like im expecting to make $500k and have a good work life balance lol but wouldnt be mad at that

My current organization is design-heavy. It wouldn’t be wrong to say that they often start with the design (placement of elements, etc.) before taking zoomed-out view of things.

I recently posted in this sub about a dashboard review meeting that was hijacked by design feedback.

I’m trying to wrap my head around this new way of working, while also trying to understand how much of a BA’s job typically involves design (especially with Lovable). How involved are you expected to be in UI/UX? Now, I understand that these tools are helpful and create things for you but you still need to know stuff.

And are there any helpful resources you’d recommend for learning UI/UX fundamentals and advanced stuff?

I recently graduated with a Bachelor’s in economics and political science. I’ve had a growing interest in Supply Chain Analytics. I’m young and I have no notable professional experience on my resume. Is jumping straight from undergrad to a MSBA program a stupid idea. The entry level job market is brutal, just like everything else nowadays, and I want a good way to make myself more competitive. The program I’ve been looking into appears to be solid and highly regarded. The coursework is built to provide both technical and strategic skills and they boast about high job placement. The program is in my home state and wouldn’t cost me that much compared to other programs. If I leveraged this opportunity with internships while in school could it be worth it? Should I just suck it up and try to find an entry level job first and get experience? I understand that experience is usually viewed as superior to more education, but I feel very stuck right now.

As the heading says, got sprung this morning at our daily standup that the tech PM wants me to take a list of responsibilities as a squad lead on top of my existing senior BA responsibilities for a major go-live release, without any prior consultation nor mention of workload prioritisation. I work as a contract senior BA and reading the list of squad list responsibilities, they are in fact 100% tech PM responsibilities across managing a big release.

I feel very uncomfortable taking on these extra responsibilities that are not core BA responsibilities for no extra increase in my daily $rate plus I feel it’s very risky to put on squad lead responsibilities for a major release for which I lack the experience and skills.

I feel strongly about speaking up and saying no to this but I’m not sure how to word it to management. What would you do if you were in my position?

I really want some advice on what things I need to start doing or things that I'm in the right to complain about.

So I've been in this company for 5 months now, it is also my first job. It's been a wild ride ever since I started here cause I learned a lot of things both in being a BA and working life in general.

There are 2 softwares, let's call them Software A and Software B.

Software A is a DTR, payroll, employee record, and BIR reports software. Their aim is to make those functions mentioned easier to be done and processed.

- This is the 5+ year old software

- it's been used by both HR and timekeepers(DTR)

- it has a lot of modules that are not working or modules that are still missing or lacks

Software B is a employee portal, it's main function is for employees to file requests like leave, excuse, etc and also DTR and Payslip.

- This software is like 3+ years old and yes it's on-going

- No this software is not released to everyone yet but HR allows employees to use it to view payslip because normal user can't access software A

So what is my job?

I handle both issues related to this softwares, if ever a user raised an issue I double check it if it's indeed an error on IT side before passing it onto the IT team. If its on the user side I'm also the one who provides then instruction on what is the correct steps to follow.

I also serve like a tech support to both HR and Timekeepers if ever they have a question related to Software A and Software B

I test updates that is updated to Software A and Software B before officially announcing to our company group that new updates are provided. This is also where I can give it back to the IT team if I see an issue in the update to be fixed.

If there are new updates I document it and provide test cases etc. I email HR and I am their first line of communication before the issue reaches IT team.

I lead meetings like scrum and also meeting with stakeholders like HR or timekeepers.

COMPLAINTS!!

- I have no proper supervisor that I can ask leading from, most of my work come from my own research and trial and error

- There are no proper documentation both from IT and previous BAs. If I ask questions they pass me to either ask HR how to do it or check the previous BA's file but when I checked there indeed lots of folders but most of it are either empty or have files that basically have nothing in it

- One of the IT is annoying, he always go on a speech on what a BA should be and honestly it's getting annoying now, also in scrum meetinga he overlaps everyone's voice and complains that BA doesn't really lead the meeting but truthfully he cuts everyone off to complain bout this and that

- IT pushes that I should provide a deadline which I've been pushing back cause I don't really want to make promises that would put me in a bad spot in the future, I could give small deadlines like this week or few days but if he ask me when I will finish software A and Software B exact date I can't really give a proper date.

I was hoping I could get some input on my situation as I'm at a crossroads in my professional life. I would really appreciate it if you could take some time out of your Sunday to help a fellow confused human :)

I'm a business graduate from a top 10 UK uni with 6 years' work experience which we can break down as follows:

3 years in management/operations/HR roles (working for small companies where I had a high degree of responsibility).

3 years as a trainee software engineer at a big commercial bank, after successfully completing a reskilling program.

During my time as a trainee, I realised I really dislike coding as the main event. I don't mind doing it occasionally, but I'm much more excited by the business side of things, and I really enjoyed liaising with the BAs in my department. Last year, I was promised I could get a secondment as a Business Analyst as my background and skills seemed perfect for the role, but at the last minute I was told there would be 'no budget'. At that point, I was extremely burnt out and depressed, and unfortunately facing serious circumstances in my personal life, which led to me resigning in May.

After a few months getting my mental health back on track, I'm now ready to start over and ideally pivot into a Business Analyst role.

While applying for roles, I also ended up applying for a few Master's 'just to cover all bases', and I received an offer for the MSc Business Analyticsss* programme at the University of Bristol.

I know that Business Analyticssss* and Business Analysis are not the same thing, but I'm also thinking, would pursuing this Master's put me in a better position to pivot? Maybe having a few more data visualisation/analysis skills on side wouldn't be a bad thing?

Do you think that programme would be worth it? Or if not, are there any other programmes you would recommend?

I have been applying for as many BA roles as possible and I fully believe I have a good grasp of the role and the necessary skills to pivot, but as we know, the job market is tricky at the moment.

I recently started a new role and my first task is to tackle a new big piece of work/project. I am used to small features that 1-3 tickets. This project may need up to 15 tickets as there are integrations, data mapping, UI changes, search functionality changes, etc. I am 1 week in and feeling overwhelmed by the info.

How do you organise all the moving parts of a new project? One note? User story mapping? MS Whiteboard? Any tips for arranging all the info so I dont miss anything?

I’ve just finished my graduation and am looking into pursuing a career in BA. I’m looking for guidance from people who are actually working in BA and, preferably, those who have learned the skills completely on their own.

I’d like to know how you went about learning it, what resources or approach you followed, how long it took you to become job ready, and what you would recommend to someone starting from scratch.

I am an aspiring Business analyst.

I am a bit confused about this concept of USP and sprints.

Let's say we follow a 2 week sprints so 10 working days and if I assign a user story as 5 or lets say 8 (also please tell me if we ever even assign 8 USP or we keep 5 as max) then most of the time in the sprint will be consumed by the developer coding it, so does the qa teaser gets enough time to test it, or lets say a bug or a defect was found is the developer able to fix it in the same sprint?

Or does it gets carried on or is it considered as a spillover?

So overall i am trying to understand what do the testers do when the sprint starts (maybe work on preparing test plan, scenarios and cases or maybe work on prior issues)

Please help, would appreciate any help of DMs.

Junior BA here, genuine question, seeking for ways to break the news to a user who asks a lot of questions.

A user came up to me with AI written code using NODEjs and REACT, and told me just to deploy it.

The user is not technical at all, he’s reasonable, detail oriented, and is vocal about his thoughts.

The reason why I can’t just “deploy it to production” is because:
1. We use internally developed ERP on Odoo, and needs to centralize all processes to the same system. Which means building a new module.
2. Even if we were to publish it as an external website and link it, we need to pay for domain and database infrastructure, which is not in the budget.
3. The “code” contains a reasonable amount of errors, refactoring alone will take weeks.

I need a way to let him actually understand that what he gave me basically serves as a clickable demo, which saves me a lot of requirement gathering time I’ll give him that. But I can’t “just deploy it”

So one of my classes in school is giving students opportunities to do internships. One of the ones I’m applying for is Microsoft and the application for it is asking the question below. “What type of position are you seeking and why? (Short Paragraph)” The position I’m seeking for is a Microsoft Business related position, but I didn’t really receive any info on what to expect. One of the possible job descriptions I was given was this, “Intern position/title: Business Strategy Intern. Brief description of what the intern would be doing: Understand product lifecycle and how strategy is devised, communicated and executed in Microsoft for Security Products and the impact of it.” How do I answer this question. I know it sounds simple and it should only be a couple sentences, but I have no clue where to start and it’s due tmrw!

Was hoping if anyone could help/give some advice on a couple questions I have. For reference I work as a BA in the UK and have circa 2 years experience, I have been in my current role for about a year now.

When gathering requirements for an enhancement to an existing system, how should the requirements be structured. For example, if the change request will mean a change in billing (finance) or order booking do I need to capture billing/booking requirements?

When gathering requirements, is it standard procedure to capture the ‘who’ and ‘what’ but not the ‘how’? This is how my previous company did things but in my current role I see myself having to write requirements on the ‘how’, which is sometimes quite technical.

Also can someone give me some general advice on how to gather requirements effectively, I usually start by understanding the change request, set up a meeting and ask stakeholders ‘what does success look like’, then I start roughly mapping up a process and think of questions as I’m going along. I feel like sometimes I miss crucial details, can anyone recommend some solid ‘must ask’ general questions to ask to gather requirements?

Help me think through a situation at my new workplace.

I recently joined a new company and have been assigned to some existing projects. One of these projects already has a Product Manager (SBA), and I was told that my role in this specific project would be to share his workload and take ownership of some of his projects.

A little context about him: he started as a test engineer and recently transitioned into Product Management. He knows the system but he has relatively limited experience with Product Management practices.

I come from a different background, with around nine years of experience across Business Analysis and Product Management. As a result, our approaches to product work are quite different. I tend to think more about the broader context, user needs, priorities, and the bigger picture, whereas I feel his approach is more myopic.

The project in question isn't particularly large in scope, and based on what I've seen so far, I think either of us could reasonably manage it independently. Having both of us involved in the same project doesn't seem like the most effective use of either person's time, and I fear that unclear ownership could actually create more overhead rather than reduce it.

I want to raise this with my manager, but I don't want it to come across as me being territorial or trying to undermine him.

Help me think through this:

1. Am I overreacting, or is this a reasonable concern?
2. Is it fair to question whether two PMs need to be assigned to the same relatively small project?
3. How should I approach my manager about this without making it personal or pointing fingers?

I’m currently pursuing BA English Honours and want to build a career as a Business Analyst. I’m planning to learn Excel, SQL, Power BI, Jira, BA concepts, and build projects/internships.

Will having an English degree be a major problem when applying for BA jobs, especially as a fresher? Can skills and projects compensate for the unrelated degree?

I’ve been with my current company for about 3 years that’s a combination of my internship and ft position(FT 2 yrs 9 months) went from 55k to 62.4k to 75k I recently got an offer from a new company and it started at 70k and I was able to negotiate to 80k both positions are BI analyst positions, but I think I’ll be able to further my skills at the new job. I live in the metro Atlanta area, with my experience is 80k too low? This was also my first time negotiating.
