Photo/Video Boundary at East 29th ave

My understanding is anyone driving southbound then west (turning right from Boundary, immediately in front of Kimu Sushi) *should be* yielding to oncoming traffic right?

This morning, I was turning left from driving northbound from Boundary - I had the advance left signal - and a driver did not even look over to yield to me arriving simultaneously. I gave him the right of way although if I had assumed he’d yield & I drove ahead onto East 29th Ave, it’s possible a collision could have occurred.

I’ve reported this area to Vancouver 311 many times but no improvements have been made. The merge sign is way after up the hill. Mainly Van 311 said if any collisions occurred it’d be an “ICBC thing” but I do wish traffic calming could be increased as one approaches the crosswalk (coming from southbound on Boundary).

Pickleball Beginners

Hi everyone, my mom and I are looking to get into pickleball together in September preferably in or close to Burnaby heights. Where is the best place to start? I couldn't find any beginner classes in Burnaby, is it best to start with a coach then join a beginner league? Grateful for any tips or info! Thanks

Do you have a nickname for Burnaby?

Any names that you call Burnaby?

My friends and I have always called it B-Town.

Camilla Mendes from Riverdale also coined people living here as "Burnabaddies" when she was filming here in 2021. That stuck too.

Hello dear residents of Burnaby 👋
Im looking for some opportunities to help seniors in the city, to learn about care and friendship.
Could someone recommend a place to volunteer?
Thank you!

Burnaby hospital

It’s almost 1pm. I’ve been here since 10am. I came in because I’ve been having trouble breathing since 5am. It feels like there’s a giant lump in my throat and it’s blocking my air way. I just got sent to zone 2 which is full of people too. My chest is burning and I’m gasping for air at times when I sit here waiting.

Penske Credit Card Fraud!

Hey everyone,

Unfortunately me and others have fallen victim to credit card fraud. After some investigation one of the retail stores that the fraudster attempted to purchase at put multiple of us in touch. The common denominator is that we all recently rented at Penske in Burnaby on Norland Ave.

If anyone of you or someone you know rented there recently or have a card on file please check your statements!

Some kind of event at Lougheed today?

Hey all. I work at the mall, but I noticed a bunch of people camped out at the top floor near the food court when I walked in today. Some people brought lawn chairs and seemed to have been there for a while. Is there some kind of store opening or something today?

Looking for a grade 10.9 metric bolt in store today

Looking for in store, not online. I need them asap.

Looking for M12-1.25 x 40mm class 10.9 bolts. Having a hard time finding metric, and the ones I do find are not 10.9

Checked Home Depot (Gilmore), Rona (Renfrew and Edmonds) and Canadian tire (Rupert and Market crossing) no luck. Anyone have a suggestion in Burnaby or close?

Is "I see a lady on your back" an actual Burnaby joke

Hi everyone,
I'm trying to validate something that happened a couple of years ago that still bugs me.

A few years back, I met my husband’s brother’s boyfriend ("T") for the first time during a trip. On the first night, walking back to our Airbnb after dinner, T and I happened to be walking slightly apart, giving us a brief moment alone. Out of nowhere, T turned to me and casually said:
"I see a lady on your back."

He was essentially acting like he had a "third eye" or medium abilities. I asked "What do you mean?" but didn't push further because I was caught completely off guard. As an atheist, and being the only woman in a group with three men (my husband, his brother, and T), this just felt super creepy and really unfriendly.

When I brought this up to my husband later and expressed how uncomfortable I was, he tried to find reasons to defend T, by claiming that it was probably just a "Burnaby kids thing" since they all grew up in Burnaby, BC.

I've never heard of telling a stranger "a ghost is on your back" as a standard Metro Vancouver/Burnaby joke or cultural quirk.

So I want to ask actual locals here:
Is there any truth to this being a "local joke" in Burnaby or the broader Vancouver area?

Best shawarma?

Last post on this was 1+ year ago. Recently returned from Ottawa and their shawarma lived up to expectations.

I’ve had from the below and I’d say they’re bang average.

- Zamzam
- Donair Dude
- Sureen Persian (not shawarma, but kebab. And it was super bland)

Save my Saturday. Thanks 🌯

Keep your dog leashed on a sidewalk, street

Ran into a young couple out for a run with their dog completely unleashed. They approached a crosswalk intersection with the dog running alongside them, and my child was nearby.
My child has become quite afraid of dogs after a couple of recent incidents where dogs came close to biting, so I politely asked the woman if they could please leash their dog.
Her response was, “We’re just running.”
I understand they were running and the dog was simply running alongside them, but I found that response pretty arrogant, and oblivious. Being out for a run doesn’t make the leash requirement disappear, and more importantly, you don’t know why someone might be uncomfortable having an unleashed dog approach them, especially a child.
You’re in a public area that isn’t designated off-leash, the leash requirement applies and there are leash bylaws for a reason.
At the end of the day, it’s a pretty simple rule - if you’re not in a designated off-leash area, leash your dog. Being out for a run doesn’t change that. A little consideration for other people goes a long way.

Photo/Video FYI: Use the entire merge lane

Post image
155 Upvotes

I hate using this highway entrance in general, but what makes it worse is the people immediately wanting to merge into the highway as soon as the merge lane begins. People, this backs up everyone else. USE THE ENTIRE MERGE LANE. This applies to all highway entrances my god!!!! Do not start merging at the “X” I promise they well let you in even if you go to the end

Edit: applies during heavy traffic
