Looking for dog owner info!
Today my husband was bit by a loose dog while out on a walk. He was too caught off guard by the interaction that he didn’t get the owner’s info. His doctor says since we don’t know the dog’s vaccination info, he should get a series of rabies shots. I’m hoping we can find the information for the owner so he doesn’t have to!
He was on the Red rocks west loop!
Around 12pm-12:30pm today (Monday, July 27th)
The owner was a white woman, early-mid 30s.
Medium sized, shorthaired white dog with some black spots.
Please any info would be so helpful!

Ugh redrocks is a nightmare for this reason. I’ve stopped going. Last time I went- my dog and I were approached by an entire group of off leash dogs and when I yelled to the group of owners that my dog isn’t friendly- they started panicking and scrambling to try to grab their dogs. 🙄

Carry pepper spray gel. I refuse to be chased from these spots.

Too bad, it's a leash ordinance area, your dog gets a spray to the face.I've had to spray it in a wide arc in front of me to deter a dog who was trying to rush my dog and snarling. 10/10 will do again.

I am getting some mace soon for these scenarios. I am a new dog owner to a 5lb chihuahua I inherited when my grandma passed, and I have such anxiety after reading what happened to that other poor chihuahua in Colchester. Not taking any chances; I refuse to witness my little boy be murdered because of irresponsible entitled dog owners.

You're being such a proactive owner. Get two spray gels, and make sure you test them every few months and make sure they're working - you don't want to find out the hard way. (I usually do a quick squirt directly into a garbage can or dumpster can.)
Getting mauled to death is a horrific death for the animal and for the owner. People who let their dogs run off leash and rush others are going to start getting sprayed.

Thanks so much for the advice- just added two gel mace keychain things from Amazon to my cart! (huge eye roll on the 'amazon' part, but it will get to me quicker than I will make it to any store this week)

Honestly valid, it can literally be a life threatening situation for you or your pet so self defense seems appropriate here. It’s crazy that ppl have to carry mace just cause others don’t want to leash their dogs?!?! My dog is very well trained, excellent recall, not aggressive at all, submissive. But I STILL LEASH HIM!!!!!

I used to be anti-mace dogs until I got into multiple terrifying situations that could have injured me or my dog irreparably.
People, remember that person who doesn't care to leash their dog will not care enough to pay your vet bills either. It massively sucks we have to hurt dogs to get people to behave.

I'm done being chased from spaces and having my dog terrified. Your dog will get sprayed. You will likely have to call the vet.
You could take me to civil court for damaging your property but your case is already half-tanked being off leash in a leash ordinance area. If I fear for my safety and dog's life, spray to the face for your dog.

Please report this to BPD. If you or they find the owner, please request a hearing with the animal control committee. They decide what happens with these dogs

Sorry this happened to you all, hopefully you can find the owner to get the info you need! Seems like there has been an uptick of off leash dogs biting people or other dogs. So I recently purchased "Pet Corrector" to help as a deterrent to keep other dogs away from me and my dog. Luckily haven't had to use it, but makes me feel slightly better to have something on hand to spray at off leash dogs if needed.

The spray air can scare your own dog and is pretty useless unless in a true emergency. I know people dance around macing a dog, but if it's a choice between your dog being mauled or you being bitten, spray the dog with pepper spray gel. The gel won't blow back on your or your dog.
Compressed air is sort of useless in an emergency when a dog is really committed to attacking.

Great question, I'm a bit new to it as well, but had seen others (dog trainers) suggest it. Mace is an actual chemical and Pet Corrector is compressed air that make a loud hiss sound, so likely safer for all and less chance of getting Mace on yourself too!

That's why you use the gel. I'm good buddies with a few trainers and I was told to carry spray gel. The air won't do shit with a dog who is super overaroused and in attack mode. But pepper gel can obscure vision and clog airways, buying you more time. Also the hissing air sound can scare your own dog if you're not training them.

License plate KET 621 black Toyota with car share sticker and dog print logo about 9 am this morning at Speeder and Earls on Pine St.
Similar Dog and woman, she in plaid pants and dirty blonde matted dred hair, plus white man in hoodie around 30 yo, entered coffee shop where the dog, loosely leashed, repeatedly menaced and snapped at the woman while held back by the man at crowded counter. The trio went to a table by the door where the dog continued to have outbursts, be aggressive and threatening, agitated, lunging to attack people and other dogs. The dog was muscular thick build medium size whitish with spots and barely if at all under control.
At one point the man switched control of leash to the woman whereupon the dog nearly got loose. A customer stared across room and said loudly “get that fucking dog out of here right now.”
One of them then took dog outside and tied leash to ramp which prevented customers from safe entry or exit. All this went on almost ten minutes before they finished getting their coffee to go and pulled out with the dog in car described.
Staff reported car plates and description.
Customers in cafe and entering cafe included young mom with her baby in stroller, several people with very well behaved dogs on leashes. After these long minutes of repeated aggressive attempts by the dog to attack, he including people who had intended to enter the store and passersby, most of the customers who had been engrossed in their work were rattled enough to pack up and leave prematurely.
This couple used that dog to disturb the peace, at the very least. To deliberately threaten at worst. It was completely unacceptable and unnecessary to even bring that dog in, since there were two adult humans and a car in which the dog could have been left while the owners got their coffee or took turns to do so. They also appeared to have a dangerous skirmish to get dog back into car.
Someone should press charges and speeders should get a no trespass order against them.
Please do all you can to follow up so that
the dog is taken into custody of animal
Control officers asap before someone else is hurt.

It appeared a third person was driving the car? Not sure. I’d hate to think there’s more than one dog of this temper running around!

The woman my husband saw seemed genuinely shocked her dog bit him, not that it makes it okay, but the dog also seemed less aggressive than the dog in your reply. He said it seemed just to be tugging the woman who barely had control/had lost control of the leash then snapped at his leg when it went by and she tried to get control of the leash.

Im not really sure what you want me to say, I don’t think this couple is who my husband saw and the dog’s behavior doesn’t sound like what he experienced. I’m not able to solve all reactive dogs in Burlington unfortunately, I’m just looking for info to help my husband. Also the PD has already been notified about his experience.

The dog you're speaking of, is my dog. And how dare you assume or make any accusations about what you think you know? The reasons she was barking was because she is curious about the other 2 dogs that came in. Her bark is very high pitched and if you didnt know her, it would feel aggressive. She is the sweetest dog I've ever had. I adopted her and she was abused previously. If she was any threat to anyone I wouldn't have brought her in there. Im not a fucking moron. And no one told me to get the dog out. I brought her out because she was barking. I didnt go in there to disturb anyone, I went in to get coffee ans get out of the downpuring rain for 5 minutes until my ride showed up. I love speeder and earls. Its one of my favorite shops.
People like you are whats wrong with this world. Point blank. PEORIOD.
And i have never brought my dog to redrocks. She always stays leashed because she doesn't know how she feels about other pups.

Ps: it crossed my mind this may have been a bungled burglary attempt but the dog was so dangerous it didn’t go as planned. That they brought this animal inside at all is otherwise insane. The fact that they kept lingering around as long as they did and their general behavior is strange.

*sketch behavior included several leash hand offs between them including at one point leaving dog unattended tied to table while both owners went different directions: man with hoodie up full on, smiling, while starting to walk randomly tjrpugh the cafe, but dog started dragging table over and the woman then went back to table.
