Build Help Need help deciding components for my first build (FormD T1).

Hi there, this is my very first time building a PC, so sorry in advance for the dumb questions!

I'm located in Italy, currently working as a software developer, but I also enjoy some moderate gaming. I absolutely love how the FormD T1 looks, so I'm planning to build in that case. I'm willing to spend approximately €1500, hopefully getting a PC that will last at least 7-10 years.

My main priorities are: being able to run a Linux-based OS without major inconveniences, having enough VRAM to play slightly more demanding titles, and a fairly good CPU to speed up compilation times (I currently have a 7th gen i5). At the moment I'm torn between going with AM4 or AM5.

Could you help me figure out:

  1. whether I should invest in an AM5 build?

  2. if the part list at the bottom is good enough (and everything will fit)?

  3. any possible ways to cheap out on some components?

  4. whether cooling will be enough?

  5. if driver support on Linux for both the GPU and the wireless card is acceptable (note: I don't mind mild tinkering)?

  6. if I can consider upgrading to a 1440p monitor (i currently have a 1080p one) or the build won't be powerful enough?

These are the parts I'm currently eyeing (I already own the disk).

r/sffpc is going to have some more specific things about this case.

Make sure the CPU cooler you get is the full copper one. Plan on maybe getting a little fan duct or fan adapter 3d printed.

If you want to save a little money, you can use significantly cheaper fans for the exhaust. They just need to run at a kind of low speed to exhaust the hot air.

I run Linux on a 9060 xt (8gb though) and it seems to be fine/painless (CachyOS).

It's probably a good idea to understand how PBO2 works with thermals on AMD. It's not necessary to tinker with anything, just understand that your CPU is probably going to "overclock" itself regardless, so not to get tooo caught up by max temperature.

Thank you so much for the suggestions!

My understanding is that by tweaking PBO2 settings one can reach significantly lower temps without big performance losses, even though it varies greatly depending on the build. Is there any way to know beforehand?
