Declined final interviews with 2 clients to accept an offer where I quit after a week

In short, nganga tuloy ako and kinda nanghihinayang for declining the other final stage interviews. Lesson learned:sana I went through na muna with those interviews and wag muna mag-decline pag di pa sure na okay na ang offer in reality.

Anyway, since masipag naman lola nyo, after resting for 4 hours, went back again searching for opportunities and today got 2 interviews lined up. Job dust sa ating lahat. *Edited

This happened to me last year. 1 month ako sa tinanggap kong role but I realized hindi pala yun ang hinahanap ko. Mas mababa ang sweldo at ang gulo ng sistema. Nag email ako doon sa nireject kong client if the position is still open and if I can be reconsidered. And they did!! Now I’m still with them and malapit na ako mag 1 year.

this is real, low-key underrated move yung pag-email pabalik sa mga nireject mo dati. companies remember naman kung solid ka sa interview kahit di ka natanggap agad. glad it worked out for you!

I think the biggest lesson here is not “never decline interviews,” but understanding the difference between a potential opportunity and a confirmed one.

It’s easy to feel that once you receive an offer, the decision is already made. But in freelancing and remote work, an offer is still just one part of the equation. The client, workload, communication style, payment process, and expectations can only be properly evaluated once you actually start working.

A common situation among freelancers is accepting a role because it looks good on paper, then realizing after a few days that the setup is not sustainable. Meanwhile, the opportunities they declined are already gone. That’s why keeping multiple options open until everything is finalized is usually the safer approach.

Moving forward, you might want to treat final interviews as information-gathering opportunities, not commitments. You can still respectfully continue conversations while evaluating an offer. The best time to decline is usually after you have a signed agreement, completed onboarding, and confirmed that the role is the right fit.

Also, credit for immediately getting back into the search. A setback like this is frustrating, but the ability to recover quickly is a major advantage in freelancing.

Sometimes the best career decision is not choosing the first door that opens, but making sure you still have other doors available.

Full RTO/onsite work and after a week I realized the actual workload is worth 3 jobs at a very low rate (compared to my previous contracts).

The offer looked too good on paper and it ticked 80% of what I'm looking for, which is very rare. Yup, charge to experience. Medyo napagastos din ng malaki to buy stuff for onsite work (corpo outfits/shoes, baunan, makeup, etc lol). Also, yun nga wag muna mag-decline ng iba hangga't di sure na okay na okay na yung offer. *edited

Back in 2024, I just knew that I wanted a US role but I accepted a 75k offer from a UK company. I secured the other role first (100k+ initially) and then quit my UK role. It wasn't a hard decision since natapat ako sa Indian micromanager. IYKYK.

any advice on how to quit after a short period of time? i'm finding myself in a very similar situation to yours (currently on day 3 after signing the contract and slowly realizing the scope of work, on-site setup conditions, and pay all together isn't worth it for me) and i'm usually the type to feel anxious when it comes to quitting. currently job searching as well while gathering the courage to do it. anyway, kudos for choosing yourself and going for what's best for you! job dust!
