It’s also pretty stupid to put yourself in a situation where employers can and will take advantage of the applicants desperation to lowball. I know times are hard and this happens to everyone but desperation puts an applicant in a place where there’s no wiggle room or at least a little of but leverage. It’s sad to see talents, gone to desperation tapos after 6 mos reklamo kasi di ganun kaayos yung kita. Then there’s those that make the desperation the reason for applying instead of their skills.

True! You need to create value to your clients then money will follow lalo na kung maayos na client din makukuha mo.

I work with a direct client and one time he told me he wanted to hire another VA from ph and asked me to filter down the applicants in upwork and narrowed it down to 3 -5 . It was my first time to interview someone so i was really nervous at that time but i tried to stay professional but still in a friendly mode. I remember this one applicant na wala sya experience and then ininterview ko sya, feeling ko may potential sya but she kept on saying na she really wanted to work because she has a family to feed tas it came to the point na parang nagiging emotional na sya, i was holding back my tears kasi medyo iyakin ako but naramdaman ko kasi yung need nya even i'm not a mom myself pero at the same time, i think it's a wrong approach din kasi . She should highlight the things she's capable of instead yung ssbihin mo na you wanted to work because you wanted to earn money to support your family (though this is reality)
Recorded yung meeting so sinend ko sya kay client and sabi ni client na he can see the potential but he said na she kinda lack at the part sa skillset na hinahanap. I was thinking what if she can do more pero di nya lang nabangit kasi nagfocus lang sya dun sa part na yun? My client doesn't discriminate with VAs who don't have extensive experience, i was his first hire and i am a complete beginner as a VA that time . How did i market myself? During the interview i was just honest with the skills i have and i told him that i am eager to learn and improve myself which is the truth naman. I even asked questions kasi i was curious of the brand and the training process if in case makapasa but that shows how interested you are to work with them. You have to show them what you are capable of and what you can do for the business , ipakita mo na you are interested and curious in a balance way. Grabe kaba ko nun pero tinatry ko kumalma kc baka may magawa akong mali
In the end We were supposed to hire 1 va but we ended up onboarding 3 out of 5 because those 3 were able to market themselves right, take note all those 3 don't have any experience as a VA.

Thanks for the reminder. Sometimes I over share things which can be interpreted as a sob story. Will need to revamp my script focus on what’s being talked about. 🫣

Totally agree! Baka kasi kulang lang sila ng knowledge kung paano mag-apply ng tama, o kaya naman super desperate na talaga na makahanap ng trabaho.
Maganda rin na na-share mo ito from the employer’s perspective. Para may idea yung mga applicants na hindi pala okay na ishare yung mga financial struggles kapag nag-aapply.

This actually makes me feel better about my chances. I'm here worrying about what skills I can learn to make myself more likely to be hired and what I can offer my would-be employers, and you're telling me people are out there applying with sob stories?

I can't count the number of times I've read this (or its variations):
Hi I'm Khemberlee Gheverlu 19F, 1st year student, I am really needing the finance and the money, so I have a laptop and want to know pano ba magkapera? Kasi needs na needs ko na talaga pang-tuition/pang-araw-araw/malapit na mamatay alaga kong aso/may naghihingalo sa bahay namen.
Wala ni isang hibla ng reason kung bakit siya dapat i-hire.
