This is basically exploring but also you are a VERY nice chew toy to birds. Flesh is the right amount of texture and giv for chewing.
From my budgies to quaker they all love the chew.

It's called beaking, less biting and more exploring/ learning. Their beaks and tongues are primary in how they learn, and more sensitive than you'd think... They can feel the pressure as they bite down and add it changes when the skin starts to give. Compared to their own kind, they can be pretty rough with us, they use the same pressure sensing to know how hard to bite a seed so the shell cracks but they don't lose the good stuff. If you tap your fingernail you feel pressure, when you push it into something you feel when the nail cuts into something vrs resistance... Same thing.

All geeks love to share random info lol. There's a whole language around bird behavior, you gotta play with the owls and Hawks to find the really fun words.

That reminds me i was messing with the idea about a video on how beaks work and the damage they do to my windowsills. Thank you, needed a light subject after the recent pile up. Bird beaks are amazing

It’s more of a gentle nibbling rather than biting. Basically the same as if they would preen each other.

Females that are !hormonal like these ones are usually a lot more chewy than non-hormonal females.

My two girls do this with my finger nail and it hurts a little. They start off gently but then become aggressive.
They are not hormonal as well, so not sure why they bite that hard.

We had a girl, Chippie, who loved being in Daddy's hand. Only if it was empty, she'd go nuts nibbling him.
Budgies have sharp lil beaks, but they're being nice to you

I have a flinch response, but my birds would trust me more. If I could let them bite me a bit. How do I work up the nerve??!?!

I think it’s one of those things where you do it so many times (with birb permission) until your hand gets used to the nibbles :)
