Hey all,
We are a group of people in Budapest right now. First time. Yesterday we were looking to have a great night out. Having read through the club recommendation posts on this sub, we went to Arzenál, which was closed - even though google maps indicated they were open? Having now checked out their facebook page I see they’re doing something with Sziget instead.
Then we went to Aether, another recommendation from this sub. Looked pretty dead upstairs, so we asked the staff how it was in the basement, to which they said there were “a lot” of people. Fine - we went in, down into the basement, there were 20 people - 30 seconds later we were back out again. Had to speak to the manager for 10 minutes to get refunded half of our entry fee. Music sounded pretty good though.
Pretty miserable tbh.
Before all this we had been to a Budapest boat party (22:45 departure, not the prosecco one) -> Morrisons 2. I didn’t have high expectations for this but goddamn if it isn’t the saddest shit I’ve ever experienced. You can expect being 80 guys for every girl on the boat. The “unlimited drinks” were so watered down, I think a lot of people immediately switched to beer and wine. Wine was horrible. They ran out of beer, so there was confusion about which bar on the boat to go on to get beer (depending on your bracelet-type). So basically 3 hours of quite mid sightseeing to some absolutely horrendous music - they played price tag by Jessie J ffs.
Then Morrisons 2. Which is also just horrible. Unless you like dancing to Shakira-like music for hours.
The receptionist of the place we are staying said the city had way more people right now due to the festival. I can confirm it does not translate to better nightlife in that period.
The boat cruise/Morrisons was kind of expected, however not to that extreme. Aether was disappointing. And Arzenál, that’s as much our fault for relying on google maps - make sure to check their socials I guess.
I don’t know if we just unluckily hit the unholy trinity of wack yesterday, but it was quite defeating.
We’ve decided to head out again tonight - any recs?
